Well, we've got Barbarian returning and the new Witch Doctor, so who will the other 3 be?
My predictions:
1) A Shapeshifter. Worked well with the druid in d2, and has been explored in wow. While they could bring the druid back for this position, I think it more likely we'll have some sort of Demonologist class that changes form into various demons. Class may also be a hybrid spellcaster, would likely have frost as a key element, considering witch doctor gets fire/disease.
2) A ranged character. I'm thinking something along the lines of combining the bow/javazon with trap assassin. Lots of lightning element perhaps, such as a variant of the lightning fury ability of the javazon?
3) Either bringing back the Paladin, or creating a new priestly/crusader type hero, once again using auras. Probably make the hero a bit more of a caster this time around, melee/caster hybrid?
Obviously, these are just guesses, but they seem reasonable to me. Thoughts?
Edit - just noticed the sticky on it, gonna paste this stuff over there
Shapeshifter seems likely, it also seems likely to me that at least on char type will be able to do something "trappish". I definately think the paladin will be making an appearance and a sorc like char.
I'd like something entirely new. The Barbarian was somewhat of a disappointment (but I like it nonetheless), because it's been in a Diablo game already.
They'll probably include some sort of a sword and shield warrior. If it's not going to be a paladin, I'm hoping for a wizard/fighter hybrid. Instead of using holy magic like the paladin, he'll use elemental spells and abilities. Something similar to the mercenaries in Diablo 2, act 3.
There has to be some kind of Magic Character, that casts fire/ice/lightning type spells, and maybe now earth type skills. ( sorceress + some of the druids skills)
Then there will be a ranged character for sure, but i have a feeling their gunna add some kinda twist to each character.
That leaves us with 4 characters, and the 5th one will either be a Paladin with some kind of asn's skills.
Dude I love your jester idea, but I'd like to take it a step further to make it fit more into the Diablo world (cmon, a clown running around killing demons?)
How about take your idea of Card Tricks and instead use it for a Psychic class, who uses tarot cards to invoke magic and summons. They also have psychic abilities to control monsters and use their powers to shred away at the enemies' minds.
here's where im goin with this and don't hate on me here..
we got:
barbarian - pure melee
witch doctor - mage/summoner |hybrid
-----what i think will be next----- hybrid| melee/mage |druid? pure mage |for the mage lovers hybrid| melee/range
so it rounds out at three hybrid's, two pures. hybrids are ofcourse dependant on skill selection. not too sure about witch doctor wether he'll be good without pets or very pet dependant.
I'd like to see some classes that don't have any skills / trees from the previous games. But I doubt that will happen now that they already brought a damn near carbon copy of the Barb back.

you what bothered me the most about the barb coming back?
It was the fact that he was the only one who was always dead in all the official blizzard art and posters.
so when they brought him back I was like "wtf... you guys already killed him countless times on your posters and art so why does he of all the Diablo II chars, have to make an appearance?"
I agree with one of the posters, those basic 5 classes do make RPGs fun and work well. So my guess is there will be that variation.
I do hope they bring back a ranged class that can use bows, it was my favorite from D2. There are some haters of it, yes, but it was still fun for lots of us. Especially using a Windforce and Laying of Hands.

ROFL- you have no idea how many times my sibbies and I have played that together on the GameCube (and on the N64 before that.) Man that game was great!
It's almost impossible to get classes that differ completely from the passed ones. Blizzard has done well in using archetypes for variable and fun game play.
Anyway you spin it, you'll get a Paladin, Range/Rogue and another Sorcerer type character.
Since they are adding new twists to the classes, maybe this time the ranged class will be based around gunpowder weapons? Do you fellas remember when Qual-Kek taks about Larzuk's crazy ideas with gunpowder and iron tubes... A hint perhaps?
I agree with your class predictions with the exclusion of jav skills. The ragned aspect will be more of a WoW hunter where traps serve to assist your range attacks.

I think he was referring to cannons. I suppose in 20 years he could have scaled down to a hand cannon. Knights of Columbus I hope they didn't though because thats going to create another petition and more development time for Blizzard to change things.
I only think they are going to keep two characters from DII. More than two and the old classes would outnumber the new. The sorcress is probably the other one. I read a recent interview where Jay Wilson made a point to bring up one skill in specific, blizzard. He was talking about how its been in so many Blizzard games and how its sort of a signature. If its not the sorcress then I would say the amazon. Just for the fact that the class is not one of the more used class types by other RPGs.
The other two new classes? Who knows. I think they're going to be as much of surprises as the witch doctor was. Something that not everyone thinks of.
