To relate to the OP's second concern, since nobody seems to care:
The Cube will not return in D3. (at least in no form similar to the Cube in D2. don't expect a quest item granting additional inventory slots - it's not going to happen)
I was talking about paladins, and more so knights and shields in previous diablo games...
Yeah, I kinda got that already. I also remember that in the previous Diablo 2 game- the Paladin was a specialist shield class. Not the Barbarian even though there were many sword-shield barb builds.
Quote from "ExoditeTyr" »
D1 had no 'knight' it simply had a melee specialist warrior
Knight/fighter/warrior - it's the same shiz right? Different package.
(note: There actually was a barbarian class in D1: Hellfire)
Quote from "ExoditeTyr" »
You're right, she (the Amazon) is not a 'knight'.
Correct. She's a melee warrior AND a distance fighter.
Quote from "ExoditeTyr" »
Well obviously this Barbarian is different then the d2 barbarian, which is what I was referring to.
How is he different?
(read on...)
Quote from "ExoditeTyr" »
And the fact that there is shield support for the Barbarian just makes the concept of a *need* for a paladin/knight-like class void.
First off, you're juggling too many classes at once.
The Barbarian AND the Amazon AND the Paladin made use of a shield in D2. Effectively.
The Battlemaster Barbarian class in D3 is a survivor class.
They made it so because of the three completely different styles to play with him. Double weapons; Two-handers; One-hand weapon style. Hence the barbarian survivor idea connected to the shield.
Skills for the Battlemaster are "Iron Skin"-increases overall armor rating; "Shield Specialization" - increases % of shield block; "Ignore Pain" - reduces damage taken; "Deliberate Defense" - increased armor rating when critically hit; "Death Proof" - I'm pretty sure you get this one. "Natural Resistance" - increases resistance.
Some of these were pure Paladin skills from D2. We come to a crossroads.

Keep in mind I'm not talking about shields in d3, its a new game and I don't think anyone here really know just what role they will play yet.
Tell me what you know. Now!

You took it out of context first. You even twist it around again in this post.

Paladins had some skills to make them (shields) succesful, but otherwise I wouldn't have used them other then with a necro or a similar class that didn't melee.
And then I replied.

I didn't find the warrior to be either barbarian or knight like.

The original Diablo had the warrior, which was much more like the barbarian in so far as he was a brute that swung large weapons.
Hmmmmmm...

Again I'm talking about a Knight, not some holy-roller...
This thread is about the Paladin skills, including the use of a shield yes as it is somewhat implied, BUT it is mostly about the 'holy/divine' spells and auras. It's not about a knight class. What YOU were talking about. But I know what you were replying to. Don't be worried about that.
Quote from "ExoditeTyr" »
They don't even need a holy spell using class, the first diablo had none, only a holybolt spell anyone could learn.
In "Space Invaders" you could only move horizontally...
Quote from "ExoditeTyr" »
I said nothing about the holy spells because I wasn't talking about the paladin but just a vanilla character in shiny armor....

But you sure like to assume you know what I'm talking about then refute the strawman
I wouldn't dare.

So please next time try to take the time to understand what I'm talking about before responding
I would recommend the same
I also said nothing about a knight previously and I didn't even mention the paladin.
This is why forum communication is bad.

lol it can still easily be a ranger since who said you cant shoot arrows at melee distance xD

The Barbarian is from Arreat, a very cold snowy mountain top, but they are much tougher than normal humans, so they don't need warmth.

Where are Barbarians originally from? Sumeria, or more specifically Mesopotamia, AKA Europe. Think the Alps and the Pyrenees
On topic: So what does everyone think about making a 'priest' class? (a lighter version of a holy spell character) Would it be one too many casters?
And if they did exist, how would they tie into the story? I know the paladins were devoted to the now destroyed Zakarum, which is connected to the light, are there other such religions a new holy character couldbe connected to? I've been scanning the wiki to get some back-story, but haven't seen anything to describe the 'Cathedral of Light', which I'm guessing is the light's equivalent to the triune, or would be connected with Inarius... Does it make sense to have a character connected to the CoL?
A guy that uses aura's curses and some holy/unholy spells? xD
This might just be me, but for some reason I don't think it would make real sense to put holy and unholy skills, in addition to curses, on the same character. But whatever floats your boat, I suppose
"Vae Victis : WE know the Paladin won't return, but..."
WE ???!
who exactly are WE ?!!!?!?!
because - i'm not sharing your opinion !
...Um, because Blizzard said that the barbarian will be the only class to return...
Like Airandius said, maybe in an expansion, but a "paladin" will not be in D3 right off the bat. Maybe a similar class, like the Wizard is to the Sorc, but it won't be called a "paladin".
So basically, "WE" is anyone who has been paying attention over the last few months...

Well thats the difference Witch Doctors are humans, Elves aren't. If there are elves in Sanctuary surely someone would have found them by now, they've never been mentioned in the books or any other place.
Yeah, like they said, Elves would be a race- a race. Not a sect. And all the lore and everything does not, in any way, include another race in Sanctuary besides those mentioned, which do not include Elves, Orcs, etc. And, what's more, Diablo is Dark Fantasy, and Dark Fantasy does not usually make use of Elves or similar Light Fantasy elements.
What's more, the Paladin is not a Faerie creature, he's a holy man of the Zakarum faith.
the paladin is always awesome no madder what game it is....... but i will have to play with out him :'(
I do hope there will be a return of some sort of cube, or maybe a hell forge kinda idea where you combine stuff using the Hell forge and it creates new stuff
haha okay okay i shouldent have used the elf word. but a glorious tactical melee character is needed and elf fits the stereotype. i myself am not a big fan of elves either but im just trying to think of that paladinish class diablo 3 will settle on. i just think a bow can be added to this character and elf came to mind.

in lord of the rings the elves were asked to join forces to fight the horde. why couldent this happen during the resurgence of the prime evils?
gace it, elf would fit prefect for what the classes are missing.

Maybe Crusader or uhh i dunno something holy/bow related, but human.
As is your post, we all have opinions don't we.
Why do you think that?
Auras, bow, spell casting?
Or Auras, bow, melee?
