Leave it to a canadian to make a Diablo reference reference to hockey... :P

Anyways I think this is a good idea it would really add to the game. And maybe they could take out the hostility option for the normal stages then since it doesn't really make sense for heroes to be randomly killing each other either.
I was trying to think of something different, but couldn't think of anything else. Doesn't help that it is playoff season... :P

    ---

While having the game storyline represented in the arena would be a good idea, having it not actually influence core game play would be better given the seriousness of diablo's storyline, a game of CTF seems childish. It would be a fun feature to have, but one that would be best without a character reward.

posted a message on Butcher 2.0?
The butcher was a demon who died outside of hell, does that not mean he was simply sent back? Or does that just apply for the prime and maybe lesser evils?

It definitely looks like it would be him, he's even been stitched back together. I'm looking forward to this! I don't think bringing back Leoric or the Butcher would be bad, but if we start having to cleanse New Tristram's water supply and enter the chamber of bone, then I'll start making some noise.

I wouldn't be surprised if they bring back Lazarus as well.
Fight an undead version of him?

posted a message on What entirely new character class would you like to see in D3?
Actually many designs of spears were used for slashing as well as thrusting. The differences between polearms and spears is slight. In reality the spear is just the first and most common type of polearm.

Yeah Blizzard is just looking for an easy way out. I mean, if they were serious, they would definitely be able to balance 8 Wizards in a single game multiplying themselves into 5 another.

Because 40 wizards = tactical play.

And because the only thing in D2 that was done by anything near 8 people were Baal runs. That was so much fun, right.
Can't you see people are bitching here? Take that logic somewhere else :P

Honestly never thought about how much lag some of the new abilities could generate... Also we don't know how other abilities stack, what happens with overlapping slow time spells? Can locust swarm stack? etc...

Assuming that Gravitons exist, if we could find a way to manipulate those we would be set.
Well like any scientific advancement it would first be developed as a weapon and despite its valuable run off uses, I don't think we're ready for gravity bombs... The idea reminds me of when Tetsuo crushes the guards in the hallway into a tiny sphere... so disgusting...

I find it funny how we're not even sure if gravitons exist or not. I'm not saying that materialism is wrong, but no wonder most scientists are materialists, if they can't explain something, they come up with a theoretical particle to fill the niche of the phenomenon :P.

The closest thing we have to 'artificial gravity' is using centripetal force to mimic gravitational forces on the inside of a spinning tube outside of any other strong gravitational fields. Not exactly what you had in mind, but its very practical for a space station.

I was just going to suggest a PVP dueling side game similar in match structure of the NHL play-offs. Randomly assign matches and continue in elimination until the last 2 face each other. I'm sure I've seen games like mortal combat feature similar match formats.

Assuming 4 entrants is too low, you'd obviously want 8-16 players for the number to work, otherwise it would have to be some sort of a Swiss tourney, with rematches for some players.

Incase anyone doesn't understand the format this picture should help, just assume its players not hockey teams :P

Seperate maps? This isn't WC3, I don't get why everyone wants to cram all this extra pvp crap into the game.
I don't see the problem, the regular game is still there, if you don't like the extra features, nothing requires you to play them.

I do agree with many above posters, it should be kept separate.

I think these are the kinds of things you'd see developed if they did include custom creation tools like has been mentioned in another thread. Different methods have been discussed to stop 'side games' from interfering with the core game, like importing equipment, etc...

But as long as they are just side games, they can't take away from the core game. After all I'm guessing the main story will be engaging enough to keep people interested in playing it. If not, it won't be a CTF's map fault for the game not having replay value, it will be blizzards content, as side games would only add to it for many people.

that was eactly what i was thinking it is a nice even numbers you could have 2 barbaians taking damage or 2 healers for the one barbarian
Healer's? Oh there better not be more then a few sub par healing abilities... :P

You want heals? Stack vampiric equipment.

Personally I don't really care what the player cap is. If I don't like playing in the chaos of the cap, I'll put a cap to my tastes on the games I make.

I was thinking about the same thing, it would be very wise to allow reserving of spots for games. With a lower player cap, games will fill fast and you might want a public game, but to still group with a friend and guarantee they have room to join.

The other feature might be nice, or at least something like they have for X-box live, a 'recently played with' player list to make reinviting the same people easier.

Sure it does... Obviously carving up fallen tribes and facing hordes of skeletons stirred our interests in anatomy. Cutting up the odd frog seems easy by comparison.

Honestly though it is quite surprising to see...

posted a message on Blizzard is raising the "bar" for videogames.
    Quote from "Dimebog" »
I was rated as number one geared character on the server for a couple of days, and I only play about four days a week.

And raids do not take 4+ hours. Get yourself a guild that has flexible schedules and raids up to three hours a day and up to three days a week and that's it. It's not how the game is organized, it's how your guild is organized.
Your probably right. The main thing always making accomplishing anything was always being on a low pop server (limiting the number of talented people available). It wasn't so much the guilds structure (well it was, but given server circumstances...), we were the 4th most progressed guild (after WotLK, not before) .The smaller guild meant we raided when we had the characters to do it, and tried to accomplish as much as we could in those times. Many raids do take 4+ hours initially, when learning the newest content, if you even finish. With WotLK there was more learning involved.

More on topic: But reguardless of exactly how long a raid should take, WoW is designed in a way so that you are obligated to play for extended periods unless you don't mind inconveniancing others. Thats one of the very nice things about diablo/SC2, from day to day you can play it as casually or as hardcore as you wish without the same consequences.

    Quote from Number1SuperGuy »
Actually the OP is right on target. Blizzard IS raising the bar with their new games.

While Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3 aren't really doing anything new or inventive, you need to bear in mind that they're making SEQUELS.
Diablo3 is definately pushing the bar with how much they are putting into the graphics and character ineraction with the enemies/environment. While I think that physics based death sequences and the like are nice but minor touches, those kinds of features certainly are pushing the bar for expectations on future games and exactly what is possible for developement.

There is also some heavy revamps to systems many people would not have considered. The changing of potions to orbs is a perfect example. Inventory is the same sort of change. I think that they deserve credit for looking at those previous systems and saying 'they worked, but we can make them better'.

    posted a message on Torchlight
The Mythos screen shots mostly look like they were inspired by the WoW:TBC Karazan raid. I can see similarities between the two In arcitecture, but as far as artistic direction goes the difference is quite large.

In fact, I think that before seeing these shots side by side I felt that D3 had too much of a Cartoon look to it, though looking at it now it actually is quite good. My guess is it looked off at first mainly because of the changes going to 3d. Better still is that many games get better looking closer to release as they put in finalized textures, which is the main contributer to that cartoon look.

Still there is more they could do for diablo to add to the game atmosphere. Some of the outdoors areas are so bright and colorful not even adjusting my gamma/brightness will help.

posted a message on PETA - Save the seals? Or Kill Them?
It was hugely disrespectful to attempt to compare industrial farming to the holocaust (For the record industrial farm is disgusting and unnecessarily cruel). I don't think the problem was with the Jewish religion, but the Jewish ethnicity, as they were the target of the holocaust, as well as 5 million others often forgotten mainly consisting of Slavs, gypsies, handicapped, communists and homosexuals. The differences between causing cruelty to humans and to animals, and between the desire to cleanse humans for 'ethnic purity' and the desire to produce cheap food, should never had been overlooked.

It's a chain of bad decisions like that which has branded PETA with such a bad name. If they really did care about the cause of animal rights they would disband and reform new groups with a more appropriate approach. As it stands now they do for the cause of animal rights as what the Westbro baptist church does for missionary work (on the topic of missionaries, I just had some Jehova's knock on the door...)
