Regardless, I would be glad to see ladders released so people can focus on asking for other features in the game.
Me too. I hope they release ladders, so that more people start supporting us PvPers. I do not want Blizzard to get away with this. They baited with nice PvP, then they didn't deliver.
what do ladders have to do with PvP? there weren't any pvp ladders, the only thing ladders tracked was experience gained
This is the type of mentality that makes me laugh. People bitched about dailies in WoW for the same reason. its all voluntary people. What someone else has in the game doesn't affect you in the slightest bit, and they've pretty much cemented that with BoA , no AH, and practically no trading. I'll never understand how people can be so self centered around a video game, what someone else does, has, is, does NOT affect you, your game play, your experience and it certainly shouldn't impact the fun you have.
The problem that happened with dailies in WoW was that, for a long time before things like LFD/RF, it was the only way to advance gear for unlucky drops for people who had a hard time finding a group. So, to some they were mandatory. But, I did start to get aggravated with people who complained after those systems were released. Raid Finder and LFD did a lot to reduce the mandatory feel for daily quests.

All i said was that people who wanted ladder, can get pleased and actually give some support for all of us people that want PvP in the game, since now the community is split between PvE and PvP. While the real problem is that Blizzard have a lot of wrongs to fix.
It will be ladders pretty obviously, but I'm praying they don't just put in standard ladders ala D2.
Diablo 3 is not a game about character creation, thus implementing ladders has limited value. Exclusive items are a terrible idea; why people who want to play ladder feel entitled to this is beyond me, the reward is the competition, the race, if this reward alone is not enough - then stop playing ladders. I don't see the hardcore community begging for exclusive items just because they play HC.
The ladders will be a great reason to start a new character in a game that otherwise doesn't have a lot of motivation to do so (at least in Softcore). So, I see the ladders as a welcome addition. I hope that they implement a system to "retire" characters, similar to how you can "archive" dead Hardcore heroes.
Whether you like ladder-exclusive items or not is just a matter of opinion. Some like the incentive, some don't care for it. Personally, I'd like to see some ladder-exclusive affixes that are geared toward ladder play - bonus exp, bonus chance to find gems, bonus smithing patters, stuff that would help players starting with no support, as you do in a fresh ladder season.
While I would absolutely LOVE the return of the Necromancer class, I don't see it happening. I doubt they would wait till days before the x-pacs release to announce such a thing. Though it would be one hell of a good move from a PR stand point.
Ladders? Meh. I don't really care for them one way or the other. As long as it has NO effect on people who don't play them, I don't see the harm.
PvP. I honestly don't think PvP will ever make it into D3. It's to messy and to hard to balance. Something Blizzard learned the hard way with WoW. But who knows, Blizz has surprised me before.

Judging by the responses in this thread alone, I can tell this is going to be another shit storm of controversy.
Hope not, its a real turn off sometimes.
Figured Diablo fans would be cheering and understanding but I forget, its the internet. Ages 5-90.
Me too.I wasn't aware people felt this strongly about ladders and ladder-exclusives. I really hope they ace this new development. Blizz just started gaining back some goodwill with 2.0, it would be a shame if they lost it all again with a poor implementation of ladders/pvp/mystery feature.
Ladder Games Have Increased Difficulty
Ladder Games offer a more challenging type of gameplay than players will find in Normal Games. Monster AI speeds have been increased. Reaction times increased for Ladder Nightmare and Hell games. Basically every monster acts like a super unique.
Blizzard has already said that they don't want D3 ladders to work like D2 ladders. My guess is that ladders will be added side by side with Campaign and Adventure mode. It will be like a third mode (e.g., a "Challenge" mode) with leaderboards.
As other people have said, D3 has never been about making new characters. There's never been a need toreroll. You only need to make 5 characters (10 if you want to play both genders, get achievements, etc.). But after that, there's never a need. At least not in softcore anyway.I'm not saying its right or wrong. Just how it seems to me. (I rerolled all the time in D2. Not once in D3.)

Facepalm to the people who dont understand what a ladder system is ...
Saying: "omg i hope they dont add ladder" is like a softcore player saying: "omg i hope they dont add hardcore".
Its just another game mode...
Totally agree. I've been actively whining about the lack of PvP in the game, and people keep on acting really defensive about PvE, when nobody says that PvP has to impact PvE. Not to mention that i don't mind if PvP isn't balanced it would just be a cool feature. Instead of people accepting these features as a bonus, rather than some danger to their playstyle, we'll never get what we want.

No offense, but I have heard people say that before. And then 6 months later they are yelling about how X class is so OP compared to Y class. How badly PvP is broken. How Blizzard screwed it all up. Seriously, would you as a developer want to deal with that day in and day out?

I would like to see a ladder season more like PoE's ladder season
different events thruought different times of the day for a a coupel months each event awards points toward your season total at the end of season you get different items depending how far up the ladder you made it.
Ideally a ladder event requires a whole new character for the duration of the event that is then wiped or an on going ladder event where u can only use ladder character during event times or something like this anyways.
A system like this one rewards players that can only participate a little and also awards those that have no life and can play every single event

Of course there will be people who would be mad about it. But I rather have Blizzard put arenas and team deathmatch and say we aren't supporting PvP from this point, you have the playground, cope with reality. I wouldn't mind this than not having it at all.

Yeah, those poor, neglected, souls need more.
