Life isn't worth being that attentive to detail. How about this is a religious debate based on text/images relative to the discussion. Somehow I doubt proving Ermac a major player in Diablo III is on par with providing evidence, speculative or not, of Tyrael's corruption. I also doubt chocolate filled, elf-shaped cookies would pose a significant threat to anything blunt and nearby.
Well they might stain some drapes, really bad.
But getting to the actual point of this thread and away from the nebulous assertions of religiosity, they're really inappropriate for a secular debate, I would think that if Tyreal did become corrupted why was he not destroyed immediately by members of the angelic host? With the existence of angels and demons we must assume that either A. there is a perfect divine entity that exists and would put a stop to the ultimate desecration, or B. that there is an angelic means of detecting the taint of evil that is infalible.
Obviously there is not a perfect divine, as there's no reasonable reason a God would allow manifest evil or for his own Angels to defy the 'natural order' to create their own realm. Therefore we have either an imperfect God whom has abandoned both Divine and Profane forces to their own devices, or there is no divine entity at all - Angels are it in terms of good, and demons their foil. If that is the case, then the corruption of an angel by a demon would represent cosmic collapse - the entirety of existence being torn apart.
Therefore we must instead accept that angels have some mean of determining whom is tainted and who is not. Even if Tyreal could hide it, like the Wanderer did after Diablo I, he would eventually succumb and the angelic hosts would kill him. It is also possible that either, being completely irredeemable, Tyreal fled heaven and if that is his flaming husk its only because of his flight or he allowed himself to be destroyed and the corruption of the world stone took on a life of its own with the death of an angelic host.
However, I do not subscribe to either theory. Nor do I believe the angelic hosts wish the destruction of Sanctuary. Instead I believe that by the events of first Diablo I and Diablo II, its expansion, and the books, that mankind proved itself as perfectly able if flawed beings capable of defending themselves. Tyreal is simply the chosen angelic icon for communicating with humanity as he did with the Horadrim, and the focus upon his character for Diablo III's release is because the PC's are the first in a new generation of warriors for the renewed Sin War.
This is why Heaven wants Sanctuary destroyed. Those in the High Heavens would never taint themselves by drawing on demonic energies, but they know The denizens of the Burning Hells have no such inhibitions about using angelic powers for malignance. This imbalance of power would all but assure the High Heavens' loss in the war against the Burning Hells. Let demons, Lesser Evils, or Prime Evils possess a Nephalem for a long enough period of time and, with no World Stone supressing their hybrid nature, Hell's minions will learn to use both ends of the specturm and dominate the soldiers of Heaven.
Beyond any speculation on Diablo III, I believe this absolutely hits the mark. Since Blizzard clearly hints that the player's character fights angels at some point, I think it's probable that it will be revealed that Diablo is the puppeteer in this scheme, allowing him to transform his army (or at least instruct it) in a way that will allow it to quickly end the Sin War with Heaven's destruction, leading into an expansion or (more probably) a final act. If Diablo literally takes the body of a Nephalem, however, there may be one chance to beat him at his own game.
The only way to completely banish a soul is to imprison it within a Soulstone and smash it on the Hellforge, which may be some sort of pinnacle of reality or spiritual border with the Abyss. One thing commonly overlooked, however, is that Tyrael just threw his sword into the Worldstone after performing some sort of ritual. Perhaps it was just enough to remove Baal's corruption and temporarily put the Worldstone out of service, with Tyrael telling everyone that he was going to destroy it in order to keep Hell or even Heaven from knowing his plans? The hero (or Tyrael) could retrieve Tyrael's sword, find some way to reverse the ritual and reform the Worldstone, and Diablo (trapped in his Nephalem form), as well as his entire army (if they, too, were somehow imbued with Angelic properties) would be severely weakened. Ultimately, Diablo would be slain beneath Tristram (perhaps somewhere else, but I'm saying this for poetic justice) one more time, banished back to Hell along with his army, and assuming all portals to Hell are closed, the Amazon prophecy of humanity being free of the influence of angel and demon may just come true.

It will be inevitable to fight angels yes, but there is now no way of banishing a soul from the mortal plane, since The worldstone is gone, the line between the Dimensions is weakened
Yes but also remember the story has to be fresh and interesting. You can only re-invent the wheel so many times before no one cares anymore. Tyrael corrupting is something no one would expect; which is why it makes sense.

And thats why the largest thread on this forum is the Tyrael conspiracy thread?
I think it is faulty reasoning to justify a plot because it isn't what people would expect.

I was speaking of killing the physical host of Diablo, possibly banishing his spirit to Hell (not the Abyss) just like you would a Lesser Evil, now that the Soulstones are gone. The Worldstone's destruction, by the way, would not be an issue if the rest of my speculation were taken into account, though I now realize (unless I'm mistaken again) that the Worldstone cloaked sanctuary, rather than sealing it off, which may invalidate much of it.

Tyrael becoming corrupt is something EVERYONE is expecting. Read the forums more. =P

how about an evil being saved and realizing that all that fire and toucher from the big bad muck-e-mucks ain`t so fun and have you the player help him/ her with the conversion with Tyrael giving you the task of escorting the convert on the path.
The only thing that convinces me that tyreal is evil is the fact that when in that cineamatic when marius took out baals soulstone,
the fact that diablo (in the dark wanderer form) was able to take down an archangel seems a bit sketchy, watch the cinematic if you dont kno what im talkin about its the 2nd or 3rd, its the one on the bridge and all the fire and baal is like "please release me" and marius releases him, watch how easily tyreal was distracted, so thats about it
He didnt take Him down Tyreal had him under wraps till that guy took the stone Tyreal looked at him to say what have you done then the wander got him
you know what that actually sounds very very plusabe. a fallen angel... very very interesting indeed. i cant wait. my favorite of all is the Diablo story line. FUCKING AMAZING, better than mr king
After seeing the video of act 2 i always feelt something is wrong about Tyrael. But i never thought things would turn out to be like this. Anyway i want to know the truth about him when the game comes out. From what i know the "World Stone" is there to protect the man kind from both heaven and hell..right? So if a angel goes bad and wants to play "Lets go kick some human butts" i don't see anything so surprising in that.
It is possible that Tyrael is going to be punished for his act, altough I doubt something like that will happen. The 'evil Tyrael' thing is total BL! He is one of the main protagonists of the entire Diablo lore.
After all, he is not Anakin Skywalker!
I didn't mean to say that Tyrael was being corrupted, I meant to say that it was possible that the other Angels would turn him into a mere mortal.
If you also look closely at the picture (And no I didn't read all 70 pages either) You'll notice that there seems to be fire shooting out of his back (Supporting the corruption or punshiment of tyrael theory). The other picture series with him rising up and the scene constantly getting brighter doesn't look like any form of corruption however. It leads me to believe the he is either turning mortal, He's channeling some kind of great power, or perhaps even being destroyed by the will of the high heavens.

No you!... A lot are expecting Imperius as an enemy with Tyrael on our side.
He didnt take Him down Tyreal had him under wraps till that guy took the stone Tyreal looked at him to say what have you done then the wander got him
Tyrael stopped time to tell Marius what has he done, and it wasnt Diablo who disarmed Tyrael, it was baal
Yes that is correct But in any case Diablo was getting worked in that fight
This petition is to KEEP the current art direction
Good Job Blizzard. Stay on Track
Didn't anyone notice that Tyrael seems to be loosing his wings, look at this artwork
Also go at diablo3.com, look at tyriel's wings, the edges are now darker than a few days ago.
Is it possible that Tyrael is loosing his wings as a punishment for being too close to mortals???
he might, but him becoming corrupted in the Worldstone seems highly unlikely
I didn't mean to say that Tyrael was being corrupted, I meant to say that it was possible that the other Angels would turn him into a mere mortal.
Now that would be irony
