All these shiny wings and pets. Why people even care? They don't do anything except require more processing power-> MORE LAG. They don't gather gold or boost your character.
I''ve been playing since 2014 and have like 1 wings from purchasing collector's edition of ROS. Still i dropped all these on the ground.
You have nothing more to do guys? Seriously...?
And people spend countless hours farming these stupid goblin rifts and crap. Holy rngesus. And all that for a stupid pet that does NOTHING.
Am i the only one that do not care about cosmetics?
Well why should ppl not be hunting transmogs, wings, pets and penants? Its fun to do it, between long hours of grifts and key farming. Also, bounties are much more fun when you know you can find something else, even if that is just a damn pet that has no other purpose but to make you rage. I would stomp that "Lamb" boy and kill him with fire and magnets. So damn annoying pet lol.

You're your character. If you imagine him/her as a stealthy assassin then you don't want to run around in massive full plate armour. You'd most likely go for something light and simple. If you don't care then fine. This is actually a system you don't have to use. You could also ask team mates not to use wings/pets if you feel those things creates too much lag when progressing.
To some, design is important, to others functionality is enough. In fact, you could run around with a sticky figure fighting sticky monsters in a low graphic world. Items could just be stat boosters. No visual effect what so ever. No shiny stuff nothing. It would work and you'd most likely would not care. Maybe this would even make you happy if it reduced lag/what not which has a negative effect on progression. Which is fine.
Diablo 3 (and most other games) isn't only designed to be effective and performance wise super great. They're designed to look appealing and in those boundary's perform well.
I love transmorging. To me its equally important how the character looks as it is how it performs. That's the way I play. Luckily for you, cosmetics have nothing to do with progression and as said, you could just ignore it. It do have huge value for other people though.

I don't care much about cosmetics either, but just a few clarifications:
1) Pets/wings do not cause lag. As you say, they may require processing power (though roughly 0.01% of what's happening on your screen, as they're very low-polygon and have no fancy graphic effects), but processing power is local. Lag is caused by calculations, and those are client-server connections. Since pets/wings don't interact with the environment in GRs at all - absolutely zero - their contribution to lag is literally 0.0%.
2) Pets do exactly what you say they don't: they gather gold. You should always have a pet out in Nephalem Rifts/bounties as it collects gold for you.
Yeah, I think it's weird. Judging people by their look... really? I usually don't transmog unless someone asks me to, and if they do, I mock them by creating the ugliest transmog possible. I remember that overneathe or zero (one of them, don't recall who) didn't want to play with me in the RoS beta because I refused to transmog my character. Their loss!
I like the Tyrael wings though, and I found a pet chest which is kinda cool, so I'm using that. But I wouldn't pay a dime for that, and I couldn't care less if I lost either of that... if I could trade that against a stack of Death's Breath it'd be gone instantly
They care because its the only thing they got in this lame ass patch. They feel they need to make it important to keep playing and not realizing that the last patch in diablo sucked big time. If patches like this is the future. Then rip. We need new sets, new classes and new features.
Its a distraction. Its a conversational topic occasionally. Really nothing more than that.
Looting a new pet is a "oh, cool" moment and on down the path we go...
I can't see purposely running a loop just for these goblins. I will hit an area or two after running bounties in the act if they weren't part of the run because I'm already there, but that's the extent of it.
The pennant thing has me intrigued though if for no other reason than no one's found it yet...the pennants themselves I find quite odd and ugly, but the hunt, fun...
As for the pets, having played a Mara DH for a long time, I've always wished that other classes had something to pick up gold like the Ferrets, and now we do...

I guess I have to ask - why do you care that others care? Kind of ironic isn't it? I'm guilty of it too and catch myself sometimes saying - why the hell is that player playing that build, or whatever it is I may be thinking. Ask yourself this - how does other players farming cosmetics affect your gaming experience?
I don't care for them myself. There's nothing special about things that everybody else either has or is about to have. Just strikes me as fluff. That being said, if it keeps people interested and others enjoy it, it must be a good thing.
I like transmogs, nothing wrong with not wanting to make your character looking like a cracked out mofo.
I mean i can ask you the same question? What's the point of not wanting tmogs?
Everyone likes different things, long as it doesn't mess with gameplay etc. I don't see a problem with it. And if you have fps drops from a tmog in d3 you need to upgrade some parts or get a new computer. Because this game takes almost nothing to run.

"Hope... Do not look down, my friend. Even in the darkest of times, there is always hope. Hope for a better day, hope for a new dawn. Or just hope for a good breakfast. You start small, then see what you can get."
I'm a completionist - also i care about how my character looks.
It's not that witout cosmetics or xmog i won't be playing and yes, they don't add basically anything gameplay-wise apart the conveninece of automatic gold looting.
I farm for them because i want them all - same with achievements and all that stuff.
Rewards are cosmetics because as soon they put a +1 mainstat ANYWHERE, everyone would scream at the "don't force me do things i don't like".
As for effort/impact on the game, models and textures this small require a very low commitment, and in game performance is not affected in ANY way. If anything, they should solve the dot issue which is making the game lag as hell.
Because after you've played WoW long enough you realize that gear actually doesn't matter since it gets invalidated every expansion and even content patch. Cosmetics are forever and also typically require an actual achievement to get (are difficult)
It's a fun break from grinding Grifts and rifts. I find myself always changing my transmogs every couple weeks or so. I care how my characters look. I think it's just whether that's in your nature to enjoy things like that. The same way I'm always changing the wallpaper on my desktop and some people leave the default wallpaper for years and don't give it a second thought. It's neither wrong or right.

Man i guess i'm a little ocd i hate it when getting an upgrade and then i have to transmog and dye all over again
Some people like the hunt game involved in attaining the cosmetics. What other hunt do you have in this game? Rift after rift, greater rift after greater rift, and zero end-game. Just like how people collected the unique blues back in the day (and some still do), like the Murlocket, Rakanishu's Blade, Wirt's Original Leg, The Clipper, Griswold's Worn Edge, etc. Some people who play like to collect things, and cosmetics are things to collect. Besides, every player is different. You may not care but others do (obviously). Most importantly, it's none of your business what other players want to do.

Why do you care so much about how other people want to play?
This is as sad as complaining about people who want to hunt achievements.
Not everyone wants to play the game 100% the way you do, get over it.
I just want my Dark Bat wings back in the game!
