I don't care for them myself. There's nothing special about things that everybody else either has or is about to have. Just strikes me as fluff. That being said, if it keeps people interested and others enjoy it, it must be a good thing.

Looking back, I had a freakin' blast playing hardcore self-found throughout D3V. HC was dangerous as fuck-all back then, and self-found allowed a sense of adventure to the progression. I would certainly play it again if given the chance, but not necessarily choosing it over RoS.

I recoil at the idea of altering a game program for the purpose of leveling the playing field between casual players, chronic players, and cheating players. Life isn't fair, and neither is gaming. Leave it alone....... for those of us who aren't competing with ghosts.
The ONLY thing that should be done about botting is increased enforcement and enhanced detection techniques.

I have several spots open. It's a good time to get in before 2.4.1 launches and I get bombed with requests. We have a very relaxed clan with plenty of people on at any given time to answer questions and join games. Always looking for good people who play any mode; Seasonal, non-seasonal, hardcore etc.

People already have a proverbial gun pointed at their head if they want a "pet" or increased stash, let's not feed the fire by encouraging further seasonal incentives.
If they want to enhance followers, I'm all for it. Pets? I wish we didn't even have these silly toys in this game.

Every game gets old, every game reaches an end to each individual, in time. If you play too much, the game gets old.
I remember getting burned out numerous times during my many years of playing Diablo 2. I'd quit. I'd take a break. I'd play again and, inevitably, the thoughts of 'what to do now' always came back until I finally hung it up for good.
All there was to do is trade items back and forth, do some MF runs, gain some XP doing Baal runs. Maybe some PvP in between runs. After awhile, the shine wears off and so begins the rigor of realizing that all you're doing is repeating the same actions over and over again just to better prepare yourself to repeat the same actions over and over again.
Have fun, play your own way. Stop chasing cheaters and unemployed slackers. Stop predicating your Diablo 3 experience entirely upon your success on a dubious leaderboard.
4 years and I'm still having fun. I still come home and often sit my ass down, smoke a bowl and play Diablo 3 for a few (several) hours. 4 years now, and I gotta say, the game is more fun for me now than it ever was. I don't play as much as I used to, but when I do play, I have more fun nowadays than back when the game was lousy with underwhelming itemization and lackluster build pliability.

Seasons, and the ever increasing onus Blizzard has placed upon incentivizing seasonal play, has changed what D3 is to me. I do not like Seasons. I do not want to play seasons. I never will play seasons, no mater how much they incentivize it. I'm done trying to compete in this game, been done for a long time.
Despite helping to run a reasonably active clan for the last year, despite all the contacts I make here on these forums.... ........ I rarely play the game with another human being anymore. This online game that is entirely driven toward group play is nothing more to me anymore but a solo ARPG that I enjoy very much. This game has four modes; Standard Non-Season, Hardcore Non-Season, Standard Season, and Hardcore Season. As it happens, I far prefer the most unpopular, ghost town of a mode, HC NS.
The game is great for me, I love it (speaking toward the actual play of the game specifically). It continues to grow in depth and content, and after four years and thousands of hours, I still enjoy kicking back after a long day of work, smoking a bowl or two and playing D3 for a few hours. It used to be so much more for me than that, but their workaround for PvP was leaderboards, and this was a serious mistake on their part IMO.
In short; I've grown quite "casual" due to the insistence by the developers to drive the game toward speed...fast fast fast, timed runs, and seasonal restarts.
Love the game, hate the 'suggested' play-style bullshit.

We typically have a spot or two open every day/two days as a few members seem to come and go. Keep sending invites, I always accept them and it becomes first come first serve.
As a reminder; Since I get so many invite requests, I ask that if you send an invite make sure to leave your old clan first. Otherwise, I'll end up denying it eventually.

You reflect my thoughts almost exactly.
I'm a longtime Diablo player. I dedicated ALOT of time playing Diablo 2 in it's prime. What made PvP special in D2 was it being a "game within the game". The success of PvP in D2 was more or less created and established by the players. The creators just added the option to go "Hostile" against a player who was in the same game as you. Sure, there were aspects thought out by the designers as to what should happen when a player is fighting another player, but I doubt they thought it would become it's own "thing" within the game itself.
It was really more than "Oh, lets just play diablo 2 PvP, cause that's what this game is". It was about being in a game, discussing strategies, bullshitting, talking trash, and occasionally saying "G", and running out of town into the Moors to get your fight on. It was a break from leveling and doing MF runs, with no real guidelines as to what should or shouldn't happen. The players established there own guidelines and, for the most part, they stuck.
As far as Diablo 3 goes, I am thoroughly enjoying the game because I feel like Blizzard has effectively combined elements of old and new - It feels fresh, but there are plenty of things that simply remind me of the old diablo games... and I like that feeling.
The whole idea of what Blizzard perceives to be PvP as a part of Diablo, in this game, just feels wrong to me. I mean... It's there.... "Brawling". But again, it just doesn't feel right.
I think they should have just mimicked what they did for D2 - add a "hostile" option, and let players freely fight one another outside of town. And, sure add some PvP damage nerfs or whatever to make it more enjoyable, but I don't think it really needs to go beyond that. Let the players make something out of it.
The bottom line for me is gonna sound cliché, but seriously.... If it ain't broke, don't fix it. And if you want to make it better, than try to make it better. BUT, if something doesn't work, than that shit just don't work.
If Blizzard really wants PvP to be a "thing" in Diablo 3, I think they need to take the simplified approach and go back to what works. Start there, and then try to make it better.

I have always pointed toward the genius of D2 PvP being it's simplicity and lack of form or bounds. I read a long ago Blue post over at Bnet once years ago that stated "The geography of Sanctuary is not conducive to PvP gameplay."
In saying so, we were given an admission that they have no clue what made D2 PvP so fun for so many. Sadly, if PvP is ever offered in D3, it will probably be tightly constructed, constrictive, arena style team combat.
