If this is possible than I think it would be a great way to solving the problem with botters. If the developers are able to implement one of those programs that forces you to type in a sequence of letters and numbers to continue. Maybe have it start up when you open your chest will trigger it. This would trigger off an event if ignored.
1. the game would be opened to the public
2. all items on the character would loose its account bound status.
3. the character would be acceptable to damage from all players in the game.
4. on death items worn and in bag would drop and anyone can pick up.
I think this would solve the problem of botting and also add a fun element to the game. Ive never been a fan of pvp but this would be fun.
For example you could program bots that just farm "botter" games and take away the preselected farmed gear. And imagine the hundreds of cases in which someone was too stupid or slow to type the necessary things or was just afk in an unfortunate moment: his or her gear, which he or she farmed possibly hundreds of hours for - gone in an instant. And then people will complain endlessly and Blizzard has no way to give them the undeservedly lost items back, because they belong to other players by then.
And besides, it would furthermore slow down the game for everyone. You also would have to make the event occur completely random, because if you didn't, a bot could easily be programed to react properly to it. However this leads to the consequences named above where people are caught offguard.
Conclusion: I am sorry, but this idea would multiply the trouble.
Or, when you open the chest, and you don't type in the code. Get their ip, narrow down their address, if their house is a smart house unlock their doors ping every diablo player in the neighborhood and send them to that players house. When the player gets home or wakes up have everyone jump the player and write on their face with a sharpie "quit botting you looser" and then draw a big weiner on their face and post it to instagram with hashtag #heBotted.
This would scare people from botting... SOOO many lame ideas about how to stop botters I love reading them all. Thanks for another comical post gingerbeardsissy17
No it wouldn't. Most botting is about farming Grift keystones and/or crafting mats rather than gaining XP.
How wouldn't it? The only reason mats are getting botted is because exp farming for paragon is so important, kill the reason to farm the mass of paragon lvls and there will be no reason to really bot the other stuff.
So are you saying GRift fishing for progression will also be solved by a paragon cap then? OK....
I play Solo alot and I bought this to enjoy not type in a Silly code everytime I open my Chest... I open my chest hundreds of times during my game play and dont want to type a silly captcha code every couple minutes... this would not work and make the game less enjoyable... Bots dont bother me only bother people that want to fight for #1 slot.
Why are people so concerned with botting in a game that has so little competition?
If they fixed botting the only thing you would notice is a lack of player base. People bot these types of games because they get boring and rather than quitting they bot so when they do want to play they will have some new shiny items to be more powerful. If they got rid of botting those people would just quit when they get bored, rather than turn on a bot. Either way it doesn't really seem to matter.
I'm sure Blizzard can track time spent playing the game (non-idle). People with no job, no school, no family, and no social life can probably play the game an average of 8-12 hours or so a day. Professional YouTubers and true leaders of the game may play this much per day as well. But if someone is 'playing' more than this REGULARLY (not just on the weekend) they are obviously botting because even people with no life outside of Diablo III still must sleep and do other stuff required in lfie. The system can flag these users and send them a warning notice explaining the issue and if it continues their account will be locked or banned.
This may not cover all botters, nor all types of botting programs, but it will cover some, especially the ones at extreme paragon levels that are online 'playing' 24 hours a day.
I know discerning between a moronic idea and a troll is hard sometimes, but I bet my lunch this one is the second case. My favourite idea-to-be-implemented is capping paragon to 800 in grifts, I think it would actually solve or improve a few aspects of the game, botting included (this one gets an 'improve', it definitely wouldn't remove botting completely, as long as there is any sense in letting a bot do something for them, people will do it).

You insult his idea and say something like that? Capping para at 800 is the dumbest idea ive ever heard.
Typing in a few letters is only hard if your too dumb to read an email or in game message. Its obvious botters are against this because they would wake mommy up during the night typing in the code.
You should give diablo 3 on ps4 a try you will triple facepalm due the amount of cheaters ruining the game, other then that console vision has more features is more polished and does't lag in greater rifts like the PC vision does.
If you take look at also wow you start to understand that the only reason blizzard cares is so they can sue the bot makers cos thats how they make money, by sue'ng not by fixing there game.
i feel like the exposure and attitude of the game has been going down lately anyway unless its just mid season bordom or something...going from 10-20 active people on my friends list playing D3 at most times to 3 on a good day and seeing them all on starcraft WoW hearthstone or offline for days/weeks seems to say that when these are people who were making me feel like a casual when i was playing 15hrs a day previously

This idea opens up so many new ways to exploit.

Just make it to where you can run Cheat Engine cause they have tables not bots!

Enter a capcha code in HC rifts and\or bounties when opening chests? Please vote 'No'!
People using bots will play always in advantage, not only getting XP but also acquiring material and therfore better gear.
XP bonuses and new crafting system has caused the appearance of massive botters.
Solution is to be found by Blizzar developers, it must be part of their earnings; otherwise the game will collapse and massive give ups will occur.
Personally I cannot play anymore with my contacts as I don´t have a sufficient gear for them, it is an injustice but it is in such a way.
It might be just a come back to loot or drop system to get gear, at least in season.
