Quite sick of reading this ! Sorry Nordicus I don't have anything against you but people saying random is random are getting anoying ! You can't justify the game sucking for some people just because it's good for other. This is not a good way to develop a game.
If you want to play a game where loot is not random, you are of course more than welcome to go and grind valor points in WoW.
But random loot is such an integral part of Diablo that if it wasn't random it just wouldn't be Diablo anymore.
I love pepper on my steack, but if there is way too much of it, it's not good. Should the waiter say : "If you don't like pepper, eat something else ?". Not everything is black or white. It's not because I critcize the way loot is randomized now in D3 that I don't like random loot (I played D1 and D2 for years, I knew what king of game it was).
What a completely terrible analogy. Are you going to go to Vegas and bitch to the pit boss because you're losing at the Roulette tables but the jackass next to you won twice? Are you going to scream at the pit boss that he's a big dumb-dumb head for telling you "random is random" when he's completely correct?
Just because you're annoyed with a broad brush answer that is still more factual than most of the rants on this forum doesn't make it any less true. This is a game of chance - as someone else said, if you want less random rewards for your time investment, go play a game that lets you grind points and purchase your gear (man, that looks awfully familiar to the AH system, come to think of it).
Also, in before all the wankers bringing up the increase in drop chance with the coming patch - you'd better believe there are still going to be people crying about not having any luck in a random game, blaming it entirely on "poor design."
A lot of games (MMO/RPG) have tons of RNG related things to them. Raiding in MMOs or even basic dungeons at end game hoping for that RNG of the item you want to help you progress then hoping you win the roll. RPGs, item drops/enchanting/crafting. RNG plays a massive role in a lot of games now.
Simple example of devils luck vs no devils luck.
I have 3 level 60 characters, 1 act 2, 1 act 3, 1 act 4 Inferno My DH with over 200hrs played, Barb with roughly 130hrs or so and a Monk with like 50hrs. If we take into account every legendary/Set I have had drop. Its 1 Nats chest 2 Inna Legs (Legacy at this point) and randomly assorted 10 legendary pieces (Legacy), then 1 Inna Pants and 10 assorted Legendary pieces (non-Legacy two best being Band of Hallow Whispers and Wedding Band). Total Time Played - 380hrs roughly. Roughly 20 Legendary items and 4 set. Oh and Bitterness legendary WD offhand lvl 28? recipe so 21 legendary things.
My friend has a 59 barb and a 60 WD. Total Time played - unknown. What I do know is he hit 60, got to Act3 Depths and got 5 legendary drops (non-legacy) in 5 runs with 0 MF minus like 2 Paragon levels and a set piece.
Luck, Luck, Luck, Luck. My DH ran Act1 with 3xx% MF and thats where I got most of my non-legacy legendary drops. I abandoned this for Act3 Depths and 230%+ MF (up to around 275 now from Paragon lvls) due to lackluster legendary items in Act 1 loot tables.
Magic Find helps, it does and I will admit it. But its still about luck as well. Me and another friend love our MF, my exampled friend and another run with 0 MF except for when it just happens to come on an upgrade and paragon levels. Me n monk get fair amount of drops with MF (hes at 375 with stacks), the no MF duo get almost the same amount of drops as we do. Go figure.

I hope you read the previous post about the legendary item progression. You are 100% right about people complaining even after they double the chances. Even then it's still too low. Right now i have made 5 paragon levels with 170 mf (i know is kinda low but still) in act 3 mind you and have found 0 legendary or set items. Double my chances and what ??? i find one or two? Do you remember Diablo 2? There is an answer to this problem and it can be found in some of the previous posts on this thread. They have hit the nail on the head. It's not a question of poor design when you can always add and or fix with patches. It's more about when the Devs finally decide to listen to us.
To the OP: Do what i did and you'll be getting massive loot in no time...
I force my wife and 3 month old son to farm in a rotation when I can't. They only get fed when items of worth drop. Sometimes they starve, but that means they're not farming hard enough.

my brother told me he seen a site where it crunched how many legendary per elites killed in regards to magic find... when you get high enough paragon level and have a lot of MF they drop 1-4 a day if ur farming fast and non stop.
for someone who doesnt have much MF and doesnt kill a huge number of elites per hour i can see how this would be frustrating. the problem arises mainly due to the auction house... if blizzard gave everyone tons of drops they wouldnt make very much money. it sucks and i personally think its stupid. even with x2 to drops in 1.05 its pretty small chance for the average player.
when i do alcaizer act 3 runs in under 10 minutes for 4 hours at 20+ elites each run on my uber geared barbarian and dont get a legendary im super pissed.
and even when i do get 3 legendary items in one days 9/10 times it complete garbage. i got lucky when 1.04 released and got $350 off RMAH in the first 2 days. but ever since then its been almost complete crap... i have a whole tab in my bank filled with garbage farming too paragon 60sh
Random means evenly distributed, that is the definition of random; no reason for an event to occur more than the next one. If legendary drop rate is 0.1%, you will see 1 legendary every 1000 drops, because over time (it's been 5 months) there is no reason to get the 999 non-legendary items twice before getting that 1/1000 legendary item.
That said, drop rates of such items are way too low, that is why Blizzard is doubling them up. Although it is doubtful it will fix the problem they have with people leaving since most people still have very low MF and sub-50k dps.
Blizzard did a poor job of foreseeing the scope of some affixes total numbers, like attack speed, then crit paired with life on hit and certain skills. So they surely didn't realize a 375%, which almost quadruple your chance of getting better rarity [and number of affixes], would lead to problems for the majority of players not seeing legendaries and set items with drop rates accounting high MF. They either had to increase the drop rates or continue losing their player base. Doubling the chances is a start, people don't seem to grasp what 100% chances mean, it means that 375MF in 1.0.5 is 750MF in 1.0.4.
Like someone at Blizz said before.. the drops are balanced around the AH.. there are not separated systems, there is one integral loot system.
I think, the only way to fix this, is to make a "no-ah mode", I don't mind to make a new character if needed.
I want to get in on that.
I dont think a no AH mode is necessary. All that is required it to have a non-uniform drop rate for legendaries. Which goes back to what i have been saying about progression of legendaries. The most popular and powerful of legendaries should have a much lower probability of dropping while the average legendaries should have a higher chance of dropping.
To be precise the probability of an item dropping needs to be balanced with its power. right now legendaries seem to have a a uniform drop rate.
The result of this would mean that Some items would be worth very little on the auction house-----but who cares!!! The weak legendaries are already worth very little anyway.
The issue is uniformity of drop rates and legendary item progression.
Basically, Bashiok said, that they cant let the AH out of the equation when they balance how fast a player should gear up.
So, in other words, they are balancing the drops taking into account the AH, which is of course a logical decision, the problem is, Blizzard didnt take into account players who don't use the AH, ergo, hurting their drops.

I don't like complaining. I enjoy the game, play what I can etc.
I'm a paragon lvl 37 (almost 38!) WD with just over 50k dps, in my 400mf gear. I do a modified alkaizer run, which yields me around 22mil xp /hour. Core->tower1->if not 5 stack keep 3, if 5 stack keep 2, then areat 1, fields, rakkis.
In the last 13 paragon levels I have dropped 6 legendaries: So thats one every other paragon level.
4 Balefires, 1 Logan's claw -> all 4 i salvaged, 1 i vendored.
The 5th legendary was a flaming axe with 640dps...
So I'm not really sure how some people manage a legendary every other run etc, and I'm pretty sure they dont have much more MF than my 400.
What I have noticed though, which I am unsure if this is the problem, is that I have 7000 elite kills since being paragon lvl 0. That seems a bit low? I run with a 27% xp gem.
All my gear I wear was found, and a few pieces bought with gold. I have not done any RMAH. Currently at level P37 I have around 19mil gold.
I farm week afternoons, on european server, from 5pm->9pm. I almost never get drops in this time of any worth. On my holiday week, I managed to play in daytime, and got my 5 useless legendaries.
I'm unsure if playing weekends will improve my drops, since I spend time with my wife then.
The drops of legendaries are completely off in this game. I never saw so poor bad design/settings
I really like people are claiming they have 500 hours, or even 800 hours and so on. This is completely stupid high number. I can`t imagine non-diablo hardcore fan to spend so much hours.
Let`s assume the average player will spend 200 hours maximum (10 hours per week for 5 months!) He should be able to find many of legenradies and set items.
I`m not saying it should be perfect items, because legenradies in this game are "better rares" - there are still some random properties on them. This game does not have any item progression on lenegray level - there are no middle level legendaries. Only top level legendaries with bad rolls.
I have Plvl 48 with 700 hours played total with MF cap and I can say even if they double the drops it will not be enough.

I would be scared if the no MF duo had 375 MF :| their luck is crazy.

some users find a lot of legendary, others not, this keep going during every week ...
friend of mine do the same runs as me, 3 runs of act3 per day, he usually find 3~5 legendary per week, I find like 1 legendary each 2 weeks
RNG ir not that RNG
