Because it looks too much like official patch notes. Certain things they're probably not allowed to read. To ensure that there's no legal issue. Similar deal with writers on TV shows. They're not allowed to read any fanfics, in case it implants a subconscious idea into their brain.

I hope that most people still remember the pain in the backside that direct trading was in D2 and that yes, you will be the only one.
Personally I like trading a lot better. 1) it supports the social aspect 1000% better. 2) I was able to get better deals on items b/c I knew the market better then. 3) It offers more options then Gold ONLY.... which is the most appealing... For you im sure you didnt like it b/c you didnt like not knowing if you were getting scammed...

I honestly don't think there's any data backing up the claim that we'd lose many players at all because of the removal of the AH's. All I have is anecdotal evidence on my part, but I know for a fact that my entire friends list wouldn't only stay playing, they'd welcome the change.
Item to item trading was a cornerstone, for me personally of D2. It wasn't a simple type in stats, pay the gold price system that we have now. You'd have to be thrifty, you'd have to know how to bargain, and you'd have to have intimate knowledge of what items are on top to make anything, and that was great.
I think with the change in gold from D2 to D3, we could have the best of both worlds. Adding something like the trading post and removing the AH would defiantly promote person to person trading. You'd still be able to trade gold as well, while actually promoting item trading.

You traded items for value. The currency changed in the years, from Sojs to runes.
Unless you traded one or two items and then didnt trade again.
If you had issues navigating the bartering system in Diablo 2, I'm sorry, you just flat out didnt take the time to understand it. Let me be frank, it was extremely simple. If you got scammed, once again, your fault. Pay attention. I think the trade house is the best of both worlds and I've suggested similar concepts. The largest part is that you maintain the sociability of bartering and more stable prices but instead of "waiting in a channel with your thumb up your ass like an idiot" You can just search for what you want, and offer what you have and the same goes for your treasures you wish to trade off yourself.
A second point to the "trading didnt exist, you just traded for currency" While that is definitely possible, I know first hand that people often traded for items that were valued similarly. Hey, what do you know, there was no SOJ medium there. The most important fact, though, is that the SoJ's were semi-hard to find legitimately (they could be strategically "farmed" - more like you run specific areas because of the Treasure Class/Mlvl drop system in D2 which is vastly different from Diablo 3)
The SoJ didnt drop from every single thing you touch like gold, for example, which is so abundant and easily acquired it has led to severe exploitation and manipulation. Some may argue "SOJS WERE DUPED" I for one have never seen this negatively affect anyone. probably between 2 or 3 thousand SOJ's went between my account and my brothers account and I never saw one "magically disappear" or "vanish." The fact stands that SoJ's and Highrunes were a much more stable way of trading items that also had a lot of intrinsic use.
With that being said, the style of itemization was much different in the predecessor. What I mean by that, is that items typically had more multi-dimensionalism than the items that are used in Diablo 3, where everything is basically generic for all classes. I think most people can agree that the Auction House wasn't a huge failure - it was actually just way too successful. It allows a person to teleport from the beginning of the game to the very late stages of the end game, it destroyed socialization, but it never had a stabilized in game economy even when people botted gold and items through the roof, and the only reason it seems "stable" now is because gold has hit its floor price of $0.25 per million (which is actually higher than its REAL value which can be purchased from third party parties much much cheaper, thus, making the stability an illusion) and to this day when so many people have quit from dissatisfaction you can still find crazy variances in value.
I don't see how a system that automates trading improves the "social aspect" of the game.
I *never* made a friend from trading in D2. Every single friend I made was from 8-player runs. Obviously there were probably some who had the exact opposite experience, but let's be frank - the game is meant to be played. The social aspects of the game that need to be improved is our ability to group up with random strangers and have a blast.
I think a "trading house" would be really cool. I have no personal issues using the AH myself, but there are sometimes that I'd like to trade a STR Mempo for an equivalent (or as near as possible) INT Mempo. In situations like that I'd LOVE the ability to have a more-streamlined manner to broker said trade. But, when it comes to my 47th Inna's belt? Eh, I'll just take the gold and move on.
But, I truly doubt I'm going to be making tons of "friends" from any sort of streamlined trading interface, even if it's amazing and I love to use it. I just don't see any reason why it'd be any different from the past.
That being said, because OPTIONS are important, I think it would be important to implement a Trading House in parallel with the Auction House. As I said, there are infinite items of some worth (think anything under 1M gold) that I simply don't want to trade for another sub-1M gold item, I simply want the cash so that I can make gems or funnel it into more amulet crafts or some such.
My last comment on the 'Trading House' aspect of D2/D3. For those of you who claim that it would make things easier & more sociable ... I call bullsh@#. I personally grew very tired, very quickly 'trading' in D2. I had/have no interest in learning to understand it. I don't care about 'trading'. My main focus was/is/will always be PLAYING THE GAME. There is nothing social at all about reading & writing spam trade messages in the chat channels. There is something social about joining a public game, fighting along with others, chatting when you feel like it, making comments about monsters, loot, etc. & possibly giving away a piece of loot you don't want or trading with your new-found companions, making a new game with a specific purpose, etc. THAT is being sociable. What a lot of you people don't understand is right in front of your eyes: it's an AUCTION house. I repeat AUCTION. And it functions exactly like an auction: Offer, bid or outright buy. Simple, easy, & flawed. As it is in real life. And that's what I like about it.
If you're on the US servers you should know me by now ... I have a 'friends' list a mile long. Admittedly I don't 'know' a lot of those people very well, but the fact is that within 5 minutes of making an open game it is filled. We PLAY, chat, boast about found loot, offer words of encouragement to those who didn't get any 'good' loot, answer/ask questions about skills, gear, playing styles, support new friends by making games at lower MP so they can survive or even have a chance to kill something, organize key runs & uber fights, give each other/trade gear/gems/tomes/crafting material/gold/whatever. THAT is PLAYING the game as it should be played & being sociable.
My words of advice for those of you who whine & moan about the loss of your beloved D2 spam/trade channels, bitch about D3 in the General chat, & lack of 'friends' now: BE MORE SOCIABLE! If you don't know how, join my game & I'll teach you. (all caps intended)
The trading post can be an addition to the market place, but never never never a replacement.
I almost never get any good drops while playing, which means no other player would want my items - hence i could never actually buy any items.
Also you should never enforce the social aspect of the game onto players, if they want to socalize they will but never force it on them.
Rest of the ideas are okay, blizz should consider them.

this is a very awesome blog post about possible changes in 1.09. However i feel you are still a bit too naive on how the game and the world works. This goes to show that blizzard at least is very level headed in creating changes in the game...
ex. removing gold from the auction house and installing the trading post.
1. i love the trading post idea, but it won't work. why because people are used to currency in real life so why would people want to go back to a barter system which was never fair to everyone
2. trading post is actually what D2 was all about and it was broken as hell. People ended up creating their own currency (aka runes/soj).
3. Humans really like their currency, so removing a working currency, like current D3 gold, will just create a lot of confusion until people find something to replace it.
These are only within a couple centimeters from your own post, and they're opposed to some of these ideas.
There are thousands more both here and in the official forums. The AH thread had more people in favor of having the AH than against it (generally speaking).
