Just curious to see if anyone else has decided to step away from the game until at least 1.03.
I started a barbarian and got it to 60 and immediately hit a brick wall in A2 inferno. The only viable way to get past this was to amass a crap ton of gold or now spend $$ on the RMAH to get past it. I have grown frustrated and even bored with the game due to the imbalances, downtime, bugs, exploits, and lack of overall direction this game has taken.
This isn't a rage/rant thread about quitting or taking a break. I'm just curious if anyone else has decided or is leaning toward stepping away until at least 1.03.
I'm also playing barb and currently trying to progress in Act 2 inferno. My advice is to not go solo. Join a public game and hope you get a few range classes in with you that stacked DPS. It's going slow and I have to leave a couple games due to overpowered elite packs but I'm slowly progressing through it.
I'm far away from it being on farm status. But I've been told Act 3 ramps up just as much as Act 2 did so once I can solo Act 2, I'll be in the same spot again trying to progress through Act 3.
Inferno was made for hardcore progress. Honestly I think they doubled the damage output on each act and that was it to try and stop you from beating the game. The first people who beat the game who didn't have the AH to fall back on honestly exploited to to do it. There's no way they could not exploit that crap.
Two of my friends have stopped playing D3 completelly after trying Inferno A2. Not sure if they'll return when 103 goes live.
Two more started playing alts after getting massive problems in Inferno.
Another two have just entered Inferno A2. They're experiencing a lot of trouble there, but unlike the first 4, these guys don't give up so easily. I think they'll get through A2 before 103.
Edit: Now that I think about it, no one on my FL have completed A2 on Inferno, which is pretty sad.
I am playing a barbarian and just started progressing in Act 2. I am not pushing it as hard as I was and am leveling up some other characters as well but I am not putting things on hold waiting for a patch. I got my first Maghada kill last night wit h5 stacks of and it was a relief to finally get somewhere in act 2. My goal is to get to act 3 before the patch. Yes I have spent a ton of gold in the GAH but not 1 penny on the RMAH. I am wavering about even using it but think that I will try to sell some stuff there to build up some money in my balance and will only use that to buy upgrades if I can not get them from GAH or preferably drops.
im in act 4 inferno, but with the RLAH prices i am selling ALL my gear for cash and starting over when things are much cheaper in a month or so. also this:)
or because im a wiz, i might just sell my accnt and play something else =P d3 was fun for a few weeks but it just feels silly to keep grinding it just for the AH. i may as well do that in an MMO, where the money is a lot better and the time invested is more worthwhile.
Ehhh, I wouldn't say a break from the game, just a break from progressing on my WD. It's so disappointing because I love many of the skills they have, but the ones I enjoy the most don't make for useful builds. At all. At least beyond Hell. Firebomb is my favorite by far, but it doesn't exactly work well as far as I've been able to tell in Inferno. I wanted a pet class, but that hasn't exactly worked out well either. The presence of some of the greatest CC and escape abilities is nice, but I didn't want to have to kite endlessly to be even somewhat effective. I was hoping to have my pets tank for me while I pick away at the mobs. Command my pets strategically and whatnot.
For now, I'm leveling the other classes, seeing what I like. Once I have each class to 60, I dunno. I might do some hardcore after that. Or if at that point the difficulty curve actually represents a smooth line as opposed to this smooth line leading to the face of a cliff, I'll continue Inferno on whichever class I decide to play primarily.
I think your frustration is shared by many people. I know I have been frustrated a lot myself. I considered taking a break until the upcoming patch when I heard the news about it, but I have decided to keep trying. I have steadily geared up and right now sitting at 30k HP and 64k Dmg which on paper should be just fine.
However, I don't even try act 2 anymore because it's just too much of a pain. I'm starting to be able to deal with act 3. There are plenty of players in my range who clear act 3/4 perfectly fine. For me I'm geared, I just need to work on my kiting a lot more and simple skills. Right now I guess I just suck lol.
I look forward to the patch, but I hope they don't go overboard with the nerf and make it easy mode. I still want the challenge, but a challenge that is a bit more practical to work with. I really grow tired of being one shot all the damn time, but I look at it as getting a lot of practice and improving my game play.
@op I'm in the same situation but in act 3, can't get any upgrades unless I pay 3-6+ million gold for 1 item.
I also noticed I browse the ah more than a play the game now
i wouldn't say i'm throwing in the towel i am able to to clear act 2 inferno on my barb including most elite packs but i doubt i'll be able to finish inferno by the time the patch hits so i'm not gonna bother trying. as of right now i'm leveling other characters and enjoying it very much.
I'm not sure why people bash others opinions. I certainly enjoyed the game at face value, and I'm not soley quitting because of playing a barbarian, I have a wizard and monk I leveled as well. I just think once the game is a bit more polished and balanced I'll enjoy it more. I'm not going to farm to buy items off the AH to progess, nor will I spend real money on in game items..however I'm sure others well and that is certainly their right. Having a full time job and a family doesn't permit me as much time to play as I had with d2, so I'd rather enjoy the game when I play and not just be frustrated or annoyed at things.
Yep, my main (monk) is on a mini hiatus. I've beaten act 1 on inferno. I don't have a problem with farming Act 1 inferno for a while to get geared for Act 2, or say only the first part until magda in Act 2 to progress. But I want the reason to be for the actual loot and not gold farming for AH play. I've used the AH too much already imo just to be geared for the first act.
Until then I'm just playing alts quite casually. Just got my DH to 50, a couple of kills away from 51.
The exception to playing Inferno though is if friends are online, then the shitty drops are worth the fun.
appreciate the lack of rage; makes it easier to not instant eyeroll like many recent posts. i'm ?lucky? enough to not have had a ton of time to level chars, so i'm still enjoying myself in hell, where the game balance is pretty sweet imho, but i'm definitely waiting for 1.0.3 to do a bunch of stuff like level blacksmith, craft gems (i dunno why, but i'm the biggest sucker for combining gems in arpgs), etc. so i can sympathize. i'm hoping to hit inferno right as they fix a bunch of stuff, to avoid a lot of frustration. again, +1 for keeping it constructive.
edit - and still psyched about pvp in the near future, i think it was originally supposed to be a big distraction when we got frustrated with difficulty, and the lack of it really hurt when people hit inferno.
I haven't thrown in the towel yet. Still farming Inferno Act 1 and having a blast now that I've discovered Public Games.
Farming solo is a grind, and a repetitive one at that. But farming with a group has re-invigorated the game for me in a huge way.
On a related note: playing with randoms will sometimes show you that more builds are viable than what people say on the boards, too.
public games are a blessing and a curse, it honestly is luck of the draw. You can get people who will actually work together...or some who just go off on their own..or don't do anything at all. I was surprised to see they changed co-op games to not increase the damage anymore. That is a bit surprising as now it makes co-op MUCH more appealing and even more sensible than to solo. I'm not sure if that was the right move..but I can understand why they did it.

If you haven't tried it since the damage nerf, try it now, but don't be shy about clicking "Leave Game" and joining another if things aren't working out. Post-nerf, if you can farm it solo, you can farm it with a group. Usually.
Given the... variable nature of the skill and gear in public play, though, I doubt it's worth it for progression content.
I also started playing D3 with leveling up a Barbarian. I got to Act 2 Inferno and hit the "wall" like you and got somewhat frustrated. So I decided to make a DH which I've now got to level 49. I've really enjoyed leveling a new character and I plan to eventually have all 5 classes to 60. If I get bored, I plan to make a hardcore character. I never played hardcore in D2, but think it might be a nice change of pace.
I also have a full time job and other obligations, so I'm limited to playing only on weekends and some nights of the week. By limiting my D3 play time, I don't get burned out and get excited/look forward to sitting down at my desk and slaying some demons. Those that have more time to play and have played D3 almost non-stop since it's release, I would imagine may be getting very burned out. I would, but that's just my guess.
This game is all about gear, if you spend real $ on gears, you can kill inferno mobs faster than a level 60 killing normal act 1.
This game is also about 1 shot, just play a range and stack dps, kill mobs when you dont even see them on your screen, its either you 1 shot them or they 1 shot you. hp is meaningless, doesnt matter if you stack 50k hp, you still die 1 in shot, so might as well do like 1 hp but 150k+ dps.
I can farm all of act 2 easily without dying. Or do 5 stack siege breaker, but takes a mad ton of deaths cause they hit for 100k+ per hit, and 95% of the time spent playing the game looking at rez timer. And I can't use a single piece of drop from either of those, the drop rate suck a**, not even 1 item that I can sell for more than 100k.
I give in, either do which ever coop with friends or solo level new toon.
Just curious to see if anyone else has decided to step away from the game until at least 1.03.

Can't really comment on the situation you made up for yourself, but I'll try and shed some light...
Inferno is supposed to be hard... It's supposed to take a lot of time... The fact that some early levellers got through 'easy' is great, for them, but if it were just a slight ramp up over Hell, like Hell is over NM, what would be the point?
I also don't like farming, so while I personally don't like the design of 'farm for a month or three to get the gear to progress into act 2/3', that doesn't mean the game isn't balanced... It's balanced for the long haul; for people to actually put in the effort...
And yes, many think the AH undermines this... But I disagree... I (me, not you, not him, not the other people that don't actually make me do anything) choose whether or not to use the AH...
I also feel that the people bitching the loudest, will take their Inferno nerf, rush through the now-easy content, and bitch about it being too easy, and there being nothing left until the expansion... I guess we can look forward to a whole slew of 'quitting til expansion' BS to start : )

This is the best game I've ever played.

Leveling a DH right now (will have him in Inferno this week).
Maybe a Monk next.
