posted a message on Do RMAH users get better drops?
    Quote from Rodan

I want to share a theory I have.

I will start with a short example.
Since patch 1.0.5 I've been collecting all the crap legendaries I've found.
When it got to about 80 items I've salvaged them all and sold the entire brimstone pack.
Low and behold, a few minutes after the pack was sold, I got a (crap) legendary craft plan drop for the first time.
This indicated to me that the drops are somehow affected by your play style and/or AH usage.

If I enhance this indication, I can assume that RMAH users get better drops.
Better drops for RMAH users = more money for Blizzard.

Personally, my best drop in nearly 500hours playtime was a Skorn that sold for 150mil in GAH about 2 months ago, which let me build my barb.
    I don't use the RMAH.

Would love to read your thoughts and personal experience about it.

So much stupid, and so many jerks... Not the OP, but many of those responding : )

It's not a bad theory, but disproving it is just as impossible as proving it, so it's kind of moot... Blizzard did indeed claim that AH usage affects the game (design), but I don't recall them specifically stating how...

However, those that use the RMAH frequently (to sell), do indeed get better items (more often) than those that don't.

Your opinions may differ on that, but note one special point. I'm not arguing cause and effect. : )

I have played many hours of both D3 and PoE and I thoroughly enjoy both. The one thing that i haven't seen mentioned in here is that PoE is completely Free To Play, one thing that D3 is not. If there flaws in the gameplay i just think back to "Hey I didn't pay for this so who cares if it's not 100% perfect" (other than the donation I made to get into Closed Beta). PoE Ultimately is an awesome game with lots of replayability and options to customize how your specific character plays, There are over 1300 passive skills, yeah not all are completely viable, but you can definitely change your specific playstyle based on those. Knowing that they aren't backed by a huge company like Blizzard, I say Kudos to GGG for a game well done.

On the one hand, I agree...

On the other, you're just making a point that free games are garbage (or just worse), but it's excusable : )

If you have a limited amount of time, which also usually equates to having more money (because most of that time is spent making it while not spending it), a free game isn't worth the cost ; )

    Way to WoWify diablo.

Agreed. But hey; TL2 comes out tomorrow, and Marvel Heroes looks sweet.

    TL2 looks so bad.

I realize this is OT... but the original post isn't exactly constructive so, what looks so bad about T2? Side quests that are actually fun, better boss battles (so I read anyway), more expansive environment, more exploration (i.e., no rails like D3). I don't know, looks like a better buy for my $20 than D3 was for my $60.

That said, I'm not expecting greatness. I'm holding out for Marvel Heroes.

No, no TL2 is greatness. It's pretty much a person who played diablo 2 and liked it next step forward. I mean I've had it for... 4? or so days now not to mention i didn't get to play it today and i invested 27 hours into it. Boss battles are much more than Diablo 3. Really the only thing it lacks in... or actually does terrible in is storytelling but 95% of people don't give a crap about the story either way.

Ohh and yes I do fully expect to be called out as a liar here.

I don't think you're a liar, but your comment doesn't actually say anything about TL2...

Now, if you had stated, truthfully, that you've never played a game for more than say, 10 hours, in the first few days, that might have mattered, but not much : )

Obsessive people do things obsessively ; )

    Quote from Stormus

In no way am I saying this game isn't worth 60$. I got a good 170 fun hours of play out of it--well worth 60$! What I will say, and maybe some of you will agree to this, but this game did not live up to the expectations for a Diablo franchise entry. Diablo II had, in my estimation ~6 years of replay valuable. Diablo III, in its current form, has maybe a few months of reply value?

I think this says more about you than about D3 (or D2).

Myself, my memory is fuzzy, but I'm pretty sure I enjoyed D3 a lot more than D2 (D1 still holds a special place though : ), and I sure as shit enjoyed the 'progression' all the way to max level, and beyond, in D3, compared to D2, which didn't give me any reason to keep playing.

posted a message on Wow, who is lame enough to want a gear switch button?
    Quote from jwylie311

Wanting a gear switching button means you want to equip your best DPS/defense gear, lower an enemies health to 5% or lower, and equip extremely meaningless and poor items that happen to have high MF for the killing of the enemy.

That's f*cking lame. This would remove the entire idea of trying to build a nice MF set with minimal DPS/defense loss.

Is that what you losers want? No set of MF gear with minimal DPS/defense loss? You don't want to have a whole new and fun theorycrafting strategy to work on?

    UGH

I would like a gear switch button... Or more accurately, an extra set of slots for gear...

But for me, I would like it for swapping gear and build from when I solo to when I play Coop...

I've yet to stack MF, and I don't much care to... I figure I'm fine with the trade off... Stuff dies faster, so my lower chance of gear on more mobs balances out somewhat.

Edit: Guess I could mention that I'd like an out-of-combat switch only... : ) Which should have been obvious anyways, but you know how these kids are these days : )

One correction to make. Your calculator states that you need "Tombs" for crafting the higher level gems. It's actually spelled "Tomes" but nice job overall.

I find most of my tomes in tombs... : )

    Just saying...

Nice work btw... Interesting to see how crazy the high end costs are, assuming you ever get the patterns (unlikely).

posted a message on Is it safe to invest?
    Quote from coldone22

Currently I have managed to obtain very good gear for my 2h barb. I am farming a2-3 a lot but since the dual wield tornado build was discovered I am tempted to invest gold/euro into two 1-handers with the proper stats that would work with the new build. Main reason being I would like to have the choice to swap builds from time to time so farming does not get too booring.

However I am worried that if I do this and then a few days/weeks from now a blue post pops up saying the tornado build is not working as intended by Bli££ard and they will nerd it. Its simmilar to what happened to the IAS stat and how many players got ripped off sort of.

What do you guys believe would be the right thing to do in the current state of things?

Does the DW Tornado build feel OP? If you answered yes, just don't come back and bitch when it's fixed : )

    Quote from RollmeOneKenobi

yeah well, i guess your "LEET" fps/rts skills dont transfer to an RPG.. imagine that! stop playing and give us all relief from your stupidity
also.. my wd has 700 res all 4k armor and 25k dps without buying anything from the RMAH and ive spent less then 3million total on the gold one.. pretty sure the problem is whats in front of the screen, not on it.

I laugh at you for thinking diablo3 needs skills to be played, or any rpg for that matter. My fucking 9 years old cousin plays D3 and while he's not in inferno mode yet he finished the game alone up to izual on hell mode by never changing his spells in his hot bar since he's lvl 45. But he has good gear because he plays this thing 20/24 7/7 so he can manage without doing much. Yeah D3 is for the elite games alright. -sigh-

The problem with your childish mentality is that you're simply wrong...

A game that relies heavily on gear does not equate to not requiring skill, just as a game that relies heavily on skill (and has gear that affects performance) does not equate to not requiring gear (though less so).

There is balance, and trade offs... Skilled players need less gear, and geared players need less skill... Just like every other game (again, that has performance enhancing stats, including that on gear)...

My opinion is that pre-1.0.3, D3 required more gear to skill ratio, and now it's balancing out... I'm finding Inferno easy (relative to pre-1.0.3) because I know where not to stand... Others are finding it easy because they already had very good gear (for whatever act they were stuck on), and now they can continue to stand in shit, but not die quickly.

    posted a message on 1.03...wishing I had 1.02c back
    Quote from KorganNailo

Well, as a barb, I'm still under geared, badly. Since I started playing (3rd day after the release), I've collected about 4.5 mil gold, spent about 1.5 of that in gear and my barb has: 800 resists, 10k DPS, 44k health, 1200 LoH.

I can farm act 1 Inferno. That is it.

1.0.3 came out, I tried to do A2, died a few times on champ packs, repaired for 15k a few times, lost gold on that o'course, found nothing worth of anything, and now I'm back trying A1.

I have the exact same feeling as you do. It seems to me that I'll be playing A1 for the next 6 months, until prices drop or something else changes, because I can't for the good of me make 100mil to spend on gear like some other folks do.

If it was not for gear in the AH, I would probably still be stuck in Nightmare.

How very odd... I also have 10k dps, about 45k health, but only 500 (buffed) resists, and like 100 LoH, and I'm finding Act 2 boringly easy... But holy crap some of these packs take a long time to go down... Wrath has been coming back up before they're dead... I'm actually going to try with the -30s CD on it, and switch my Leap out for Quake and see how things go...

Seriously, on Act 3 Inferno right now, and it literally is EVERY SINGLE PACK, has Damage Reflect on them. Seriously Blizzard, you have a class that relies on damage to win, and you are going to make it that I let go 3 nether tentacles, and I'm dead.

Yes, I know to spam SS, but that only helps so much.

posted a message on Can I kill inferno diablo with these stats?
    Quote from Kaelleria
If you can kill Belial, you can kill Diablo.

Interesting... I find Belial to be a ton easier than Diablo... Maybe partly because it's on one tiny screen, and Diablo is constantly charging me from far off to hit me...

Belial though, I can avoid the smash attacks, the 'bubble bath' attack (lil bubbles of green poo popping up all over), and the breath hits me all the time, but never does much...

Diablo, I can avoid the cage attack, the fire lob attack (when I'm far enough away), the fire spread attack (when far enough), the phase 3 'lightning', but again, the charges, and some of the above stack up...

Course, as mentioned elsewhere in this thread, bonus movement speed helps, so maybe that's where I'm lacking on D... I have none...

posted a message on Anyone else throw in the towel till at least 1.03
    Quote from Stephenk291

Just curious to see if anyone else has decided to step away from the game until at least 1.03.

I started a barbarian and got it to 60 and immediately hit a brick wall in A2 inferno. The only viable way to get past this was to amass a crap ton of gold or now spend $$ on the RMAH to get past it. I have grown frustrated and even bored with the game due to the imbalances, downtime, bugs, exploits, and lack of overall direction this game has taken.

This isn't a rage/rant thread about quitting or taking a break. I'm just curious if anyone else has decided or is leaning toward stepping away until at least 1.03.

    /thoughts?

Can't really comment on the situation you made up for yourself, but I'll try and shed some light...

Inferno is supposed to be hard... It's supposed to take a lot of time... The fact that some early levellers got through 'easy' is great, for them, but if it were just a slight ramp up over Hell, like Hell is over NM, what would be the point?

I also don't like farming, so while I personally don't like the design of 'farm for a month or three to get the gear to progress into act 2/3', that doesn't mean the game isn't balanced... It's balanced for the long haul; for people to actually put in the effort...

And yes, many think the AH undermines this... But I disagree... I (me, not you, not him, not the other people that don't actually make me do anything) choose whether or not to use the AH...

I also feel that the people bitching the loudest, will take their Inferno nerf, rush through the now-easy content, and bitch about it being too easy, and there being nothing left until the expansion... I guess we can look forward to a whole slew of 'quitting til expansion' BS to start : )
