Albrecht dies when the Warrior removes the stone from his forehead.
But as to whether that was because the stone was removed I cannot say for sure, you did just inflict massive amounts of damage to his body. However based on the size of the stone it would appear that it is large enough to piece the skull and enter the brain.
I believe that case case may be similar to when a shard of metal, arrow or blade has pierced a vital artery, and so long as the item is not removed the person will continue to live, should the item be removed the person will bleed to death.

-Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's First Law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth.

I'm pretty sure its the dark will of the Prime Evil inside the stone that keeps them alive. Even if u don't remove the item, they will still die eventually, but Tal Rasha was alive for centuries with Baal inside him, if i remember correctly. It probably works like the armor of Bartuc, they need a living host to survive.
The parasite cannot live without the host. And often the host in turn cannot live without the parasite.

Que-Hegan is the highest divine authority of the Zakarum faith. Khalim once held this high-ranking role for a time, but was slaughtered when he did not turn to the ways of Mephisto. Sankekur was Khalim's successor as Que-Hegan, and sent a message to the Arch-bishop Lazarus informing him of the imprisoned Prime Evil.
Sankekur was Khalim's successor as Que-Hegan, and was thought to be among the most powerful mortals on earth (according to Natalya). He was in control of thousands of fanatic worshipers and embodied the Lord of Hatred, himself.

What I was thinking is that, in Diablo 3, Sanctuary is the battleground for Hells minions (now run by Belial and Azmodan) are trying to take of Heaven's gates. I originally was wondering if there was going to be some place within Sanctuary that you could possibly reach Heaven (since you can assume Hell is reachable through Tristram Cath).
Also, that their will be 3-4 forces that are main enemies to the Hero.
1. Azmodan's creatures (since he and Belial aren't a "team", likely to be in Hell itself)
2. Belial's minions (most likely near the Sanctuary entrance to Heaven)
3. Heaven's forces trying to destroy Humanity, since they are distracted from its own gate)
4. Original three prime evils. My theory here is that they are all back in the Black Abyss and are brooding their power to be able to take on Amzodan for control over Hell again and charge back into either Heaven or Sanctuary.
I have a feeling we will be facing demons and angels alike. The real Horizan will most likely be an appearance in some form. I believe that Belial is trying to do his original plan with Azmodan and take over the Heavens while they are distracted by the destruction of the Worldstone and the other prime evils. But Humanity obviously wouldn't know anything about it, hence it being relatively "quiet" as far as his actions go. Azmodan will be trying to take over Hell all for himself and semi-betray Belial and not send any forces to Sanctuary or Heaven.
Appearances of the three prime evils may very well be in D3 (imho). I say this because this game IS called Diablo, thus should have Diablo in it. He most likely knew what was going to happen to the Worldstone and may have even wanted it to happen that way so that he and his brothers would go back to Hell (since they forced out and did not leave by will). I think that with the Worldstone gone, there is nothing stopping the three from taking back over Hell and than moving back into Sanctuary in their truest form and utterly destroying it.
Sooooo, in my some what noobish idea, lol, Diablo, Baal and Mephisto will be battling for Hell with Azmodan (they won't wait to regain power since they, even weak, can take out Azmodan by himself) for control of Hell. Belial is fighting the few Heaven guards at it's gate (in Sanctuary somewhere) and that the other angels and such are in Sanctuary trying to find Tyreal and find out wtf is going on and stop it from happening.
Sorry if this is all off, but it seems to be possible and pretty spot on. I hope we can get some lore and some backup for this theory, or the opposite. Thanks!
I would put Inarius[if he escapes] and Lilith in the list of enemies. Don`t know about Azmodan staying in Hell and Berlial assaulting the gates of Heaven but would be cool if they don`t team up and we have many many villans. May be even some of them make a truce it the hero[us] against others... Blizzard promised more rpg elements and in debt storyline...
I doubt Belial and Azomodan would "team" up. In the lore it says that they are rivals and hate each other and the true reason behind it is lost even to them. Or something along those lines. Though it's just a guess about one being in Hell and one assaulting Heaven. Though their original plan when they wanted to banish the three is that they would assault the distracted Heaven while everything else was happening. Just a guess though.
While reading the first page of this post, I am querying about Marius; Diablowiki (as well as others) have said that Deckard Cain referred to Marius once. If someone could answer; what act, during what quest, and what time (before/during/after, or not during a quest) did this take place? Thanks.
"It is my belief that the Soulstones are at the center of this conflict. If only that fool Marius had not intervened, Baal would still be imprisoned within Tal Rasha."
I am dieing to know the d3 lore! I love rambiling on in games when ppl tell me to stfu! I love knowing more about the storyline than most other ppl. They call me the d2 nerd are somethin like that. idk I like having awesome knowledge to a bad ass game So far Diablo has the best storyline compared to ANY OTHEr game I love smiling

It's been discussed here as to how the prime evils were created, it's been suggested that they just "exist", but if they have an "age" or chronologically labeled as young, older, oldest then they have a time line, also i wish i knew more of the story behind duriel and andariel, they were of the four lesser evils, and belial and azmodan rebelled against the three prime evils casting them out of hell, where is durials and andraials plot in the story?, and are they brother and sister?, i also noticed that andariel's and duriel's names end with the same suffix "iel", kindof puts them together. Just a gathering of my own random thoughts lol.

how about one that's sharp enough to pierce your head??
Yes, the size of the object that's achieving penetration is a vital concern, and not just in this instance...
That said, it's also quite possible that the soulstone shard helps keep the victem alive. Just a thought.
