Isn't it just as common as calling their young a calf? Like with most large, warm blooded mammals. Even whales will give birth to a calf. Though I don't know if a male whale is referred to as a bull male.
yeh i think it is, Bull whale.
ok we proved our point, starting to labour it now.

-Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's First Law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth.
That's one thing that kind of intrigues me about the Diablo universe, levelling up is basically explained in lore, whereas in other games, it is just an obscure increase in numbers
In diablo, it is just your character, with basically an ancient divine ancestry, just becoming so powerful you can challenge gods!
I always thought.. what if when Tyrael threw his sword into the Corrupted Worldstone.. what if a piece of the shard hit him.. in the chest or somewhere. (Baal wear's his.. not sure where Mephistos is, and Diablo piece of the Worldstone is in his head (Worldstone piece = Soulstone)
That would imply the taint remains in the shards if the stone is broken, well in all fairness there is no evidence to suggest either potentiality, the taint dissapates upon destruction completely, or it remians in the pieces.

I think the question that needs to be pondered the most is, why was Baal set to corrupt the Soulstone, and what purpose would it fulfill?
I think there's a number of theories regarding this. My own (still having not read The Veiled Prophet, yet knowing the book was written way later) is that the Worldstone serves many purposes. Among them is to act as a kind of buffer between Heaven, Hell, and the mortal realm. I sort of think of it as a conduit in which demonic and angelic forces may flow, but to corrupt it the way Baal was, would cut off the feed of the High Heavens, and make only the Burning Hells have control (or influence) over its powers.
This idea I haven't thought out much. I have more ideas as to what the Worldstone's destruction means, but as for Baal corrupting it, since Baal is a very powerful demon, we can safely assume that his powers are vast enough to render such a powerful artifact into an instrument in which he could either harness or magnify his power. I might also assume that the Soulstones were chipped pieces of the Worldstone, but that's pure conjecture on my part.
Baal seems to be the more powerful of the 3, but prehaps that is just due to his nature, He is the Lord of Destruction. Destruction to me seems more powerful than Terror or Hatred.
on a side note, Diablo is said to be the youngest of the three, and Mephisto is said to be the oldest.
I think it has to do with the hosts that the prime evils were housed in. I mean, Baal was trapped in, and eventually dominated, Tal Rasha. I'm sure he came out stronger because of that. At minimum, sharing the mind of Tal Rasha would have given him a couple of new spells, if not an over all better understanding of magic.
Alright...so i've read most of it, but i'd like to sort some things out regarding lore here. First, Is diablo 2 a continuation of D1 or is it the same game remade? Second, Is the sin wars before or after D2? Third, do the diablo books, Legacy of Blood and The Kingdom Of Shadow have to do with anything? Or is it just random lore that includes some demons? Fourth, are there any more Diablo lore books? Fifth, what happened to the Nephalim storyline...or is that how all the Diablo heroes got their power? And last, If tyrael destroyed the world stone, wouldnt the world blow up? P.S. (I've read the Sin Wars and half of Legacy of Blood)

The Vampire Lives Eternally. It Was Promised Eternal Death.
You guys are apparently a little confused about why they were so powerful/weak in relation to eachother, but I have a good idea of it. Mephisto was so weak because, if you remember correctly, he had his soulstone broken apart and all the pieces were split up between the council of Zakarum, thus weakening his power in any one host. Diablo was weaker than Baal because the Warrior from Diablo 1 was weaker than Tal Rasha, the power of the host allows a larger portion of the true power of the 3 to become materialized, so it's only natural that Baal become stronger than Diablo was because the Warrior was weak compared to Tal Rasha. Remember that Diablo went into hiding in Hell, probably because he wanted to buy himself time to regain more of his power, but I'm guessing at that part.
but dont forget that Baals soustone was broken by Baal by what he learned from Izual, which is why Tal Rasha volunteered himself to be the vessel, otherwise the soulstone wouldn't keep Baals soul captured

Diablo II is a continuation of Diablo I. It is a direct sequal of what happens right after the end of DI.
And for all your novel information, refer to the link Anakyn provided. But I'll just say that the novels are all set in the world of Sanctuary, all of them at least referring to Diablo.
The Nephalim storyline was the latest thing to be introduced, so I'm guessing it will still be continued sometime in the future, it just hasn't had a chance to do so yet. But yes, it is indicated that it is how the heroes gain their power.
And we don't know what the effects of the Worldstone being destroyed are yet. We do know, however, that the world does not blow up, because Moon of the Spider (novel) is set after the Worldstone was destroyed, and the world most certainly still exists, including the interference of demons and angels.
New Poster here, awesome community to be a part of.
NOTICE: SOME INFORMATION MAY BE SPOILER (Info from SIN WAR trilogy)
I've read most, if not all of the books on my own, and I figured I'd throw some info out there.
Concerning the World Stone:
It was created by Inarus to hide sanctuary from both the High Heavens and Burning Hells. Lilith then decided that she was going to take control of the Nephalem and defeat the high heavens and hells on their own. Inarus didn't like that, Killed all of the Nephalem that he could find, and then something or other happened to Lilith, which allowed here to return later on in the series.
Stay with me.
Inarus simultaneously warped the world stone to also supress the powers of the nephalem.
Uldyssian come on the scene, Lilith comes out of hiding, finds him, and then starts to release some of the power he has.
Eventually, it is revealed that the nephalem, in sanctuary at least, can be more powerful then either demons or Angels. (that is, in sanctuary, mortals have the potential to be the most powerful, even when the others are present). Uldyssian somehow changes the structure of the world stone to better benefit mortals and less Inarus.
Big fight between heaven, hell, Uldyssian and his followers, and Inarus and his. Inarus is beat down, gets dragged off by mephisto, and the Angris Council decides that mankind can stay, but everyones memories will be wiped clean of all their powers. That way, they can discover them on their own, but there will still be influence from either side, because it is inevitable.
Now to understand the Nephalem:
The origins of mankind and the result of the hybridization of demons and angels.
Most of the First were Destroyed, but some that survived include:
Rathma (Direct Offspring from Lilith and Inarus/ also founder of Necromancers)
Bul Kathos (Uldyssian meets him too in one of the books, really cool part)
Then the Ancients
- These are all the nephalem I know of.
Then There is Trag' Oul or Trang'Oul (whichever of the 90 ways I have seen it spelled).
He is the protector of sanctuary, and his origins are totally unkown, but it is known that he is there to help keep the balance between good and evil, heaven and hell.
I'm sure i can answer most questions regarding anything here... just let me know
