So the D4 demo featured 3 of 5 playable classes, the Druid, Sorc and Barb. Obviously because these were the most popular classes in D2. Great move and the classes look decently put together so far. Seem like they’ll be fun to play. Like the Druid’s transformations and associated spells.
But is anyone else worried they’ll make the last 2 classes some weird new hybrid shit like the Witch Doctor, Crusader or The archer (assassin) classes? I found that these classes were the most boring or just down right dumb to play in D3.
The WD was just a Necromancer rip off class and it made the inclusion of the necromancer class later on also suck because it was redundant at that point. And the assassin class felt more like a pure archer class and never got the feel of the assassin from D2. 1 of the 2 final classes better be the traditional Necromancer class.
Anyone else have thoughts regarding class mechanics?
I guess Necromancer and Demon Hunter will be the next 2 ones.
Necromancer because it fits very well in the story, and makes a pair with Sorceress as INT users/arcane oriented character. If the Necromancers are introduced to game, Hatma maybe will be a central part of events too.
Demon hunter as they showed bows, and crosbows in panel, but no one of the 3 previous class fits well with them to be a main ranged character. As they will put a great effort to show and explain Demon huters' creation on Diablo Imortal, i think they will put them on D4. And they fit well in story too.
Edit:
BUT, i realy want to see WD coming back at D4. I never was a great fan of them, but i guess they were not well introduced in D3. Their relations to Hawezar region and Kurast city would bring a nice chance to make them shine at D4.
I think the two remaining class will be "new" classes that recycle heavily from existing class.
My guesses are:
1. Thief
Borrows from Amazon, Demon Hunter, and Assassin
Uses (cross)bows for range, but must switch to daggers/fast combat/traps for melee.
2. Priest
Borrows from Monk, Crusader, Paladin
Whether using fists or weapons, the main emphasis is "holy". Probably also the shield using class?
Essentially, the existing classes are missing "bows" and "holy" which were huge in diablo2. I can't deny the appeal of a necromancer or how it would fit nicely into the lore. But I worry that a necro "pet class" would overlap too much with the druid pets.

Ya this is exactly what I’m worried about. New weird classes that dont fit right. Just bring back the paladin exactly how he was in D2 and the Assassin or Necro. The demon hunter sucked to play and so did the Crusader.
I remember watching Blizzcon when they were developing Diablo 3 and they announced the Monk. I was afraid how that would work, with combos and punching things. Though the mechanics were pretty good I never liked the flavor in the dark fantasy setting.
If they do something new I wouldn't mind seeing a Gunslinger to replace Amazon.

Why would you want the WD to come back when he was just a pure Necromancer rip off from the get go? Why not just have the Necro come back in all his unholy glory?
And i I didn’t know they showed bows in the panel, makes me think they’re bringing back the damn demon hunter, bleh.
The leak that was right about everything else so far stated that the 5 classes announced at launch would be Barb, Sorc, Druid, Amazon, and Paladin.
But like every other leak, take it with a grain of salt until it is proven true, they already said they are going to be releasing multiple classes throughout it's release, so they could change their minds on the starting lineup.

Im satisfied with that. Tho i do hope down the line they create a brand new class. Not sure what id want tho and how theyd be able to make it feel realistic for the story/game. Any ideas?
Listening to Rhyker's interview with David Kim it doesn't sound like they are 100% on what the other two classes are yet. Although they might have things they are working on which could be part of that leak.
Gender parity seems way too big an issue for a class actually named Amazon. (Male amazons?) They might though be working with something very similar to Amazon concept. But I think its too much elemental magic with sorc and druid in, unless they are reworking that part too, at which point it is hardly an Amazon..

I really hope this is accurate. Because that’s the perfect line-up and homage to D2. Since they’ve added tons of other features directly from D2 I feel like this is the most likely outcome. Honestly this game could be exactly like D2 in every way just way better graphics and I’d be more than happy with it.

If it aint broke, don’t fix it.
For me I hope Paladin and Demon Hunter.
