ok so i want to make sure that my pc can run Diablo 3 on high settings and still have a good 40-60fps. I currently play Starcraft 2 on low settings, shadows off with around 40-60 fps. I also play SWTOR right now with low settings and a very low res and thats at 20-30 fps.
Current pc specs:
E3300 2.5ghz ( intel celeron core 2 duo )
300w psu
4gb ram
win 7
ATI Radeon HD 5450
What i was hoping i could do was just upgrade my PSU to a 500w and get a Radeon HD 6770 and be good to go. But doing some research its been hard to tell whether or not this setup will work for what i want. I would like these 2 upgrades to let me be able to play Diablo 3, SC2, and SWTOR on high settings. For the pros out there, what do u guys think?
Having not been lucky enough to be chosen to play the Diablo 3 BETA, I was always concerned about whether or not the game would work on my PC and Internet connection, and had resigned myself to possibly purchasing the game on release and not being able to play because of the Online-Only requirement (which I still think is a dumb-ass idea from Blizzard).
However, I had a bit of luck in December when an old friend who moved to Ireland many years ago came home to South Africa to visit his parents for the Christmas holidays.
My friend was fortunate enough to have been chosen for the D3 BETA, and he had it with him on is portable hard drive, and using his login details, I was able to play through the BETA with a female barbarian.
At least I now know that my computer and internet connection (3072K Uncapped) will be able to cope with Diablo III, and I've gone so far as to pre-order the Collector Edition. Here are my computer specs:
CPU:AMD Phenom 9600 Quad Core
Memory: 4GB
HDD: 1x80GB Primary, 2x2TB Secondary
Display:ATI Radeon HD2400 Graphics
OS:Windows 7 Ultimate x64
PSU: Huntkey 700W
Internet: 3072KB DSL, Uncapped
Using only a 3072/512 (downlink/uplink) ADSL line, I was able to play without any real problems, and thanks to the wonderful check-point system, I could easily continue my game after my DSL line disconnected (which happened fairly often ). I've since been able to resolve my DSL stability issues I had by replacing my Telkom provided DSL Router with a D-LINK 2500U.
But despite my being able to provide a sustained download rate of about 320KB/s and an upload rate of about 40KB/s, there is still one major point of concern that I'd like to have cleared up, though:
With only several thousand beta testers actively testing the game, it was obvious that even with my limited broadband capabilities I was able to confirm that I could also play the game, but what is going to happen at release when there are several million people accessing the servers? Will my 3072/512 ADSL Line be enough to handle Diablo 3?
And just to clear things up, I know that many who reply to my post may very well tell me to upgrade my ADSL line to a faster speed, right? This cannot be done, as I'm already supposed to be using a 4096/1024 line (the absolute fastest that is available in South Africa), except that Telkom has slowed me down to 3072/512 in an effort to improve line stability, because their DSL infrastructure in the Welkom area where I live just is not of a high enough quality to properly deal with a full-speed 4096 line. And no, I can't use another provider, because Telkom currently is the ONLY telecoms infrastructure provider in the country. So I either make use of Telkom Internet facilities, or I go without...

Ive been currently playing the Diablo 3 beta on a server emulator and ive noticed that my GTX 550 ti runs fine everything maxed on 1920 x 1080 with around 50- 60 fps but as i walk around the world with non animated zombies( A LOT OF THEM) there seems to be a spike in my fps goes down to around 20-30 fps im just wondering if there is any way i could prevent this from noticing jittery fps drops and keeping my GTX 550 ti (since i just bought it), would upgrading my RAM or CPU improve on these fps from dropping?

Mooege right? That fps dip you keep getting is the emulators fault.

ahh i see i was wondering if i purchased the wrong card, im not that crazy into pc gaming so i figured id buy a card just for d3 =p but the gtx 550 ti runs well on starcraft 2 all maxed on 1920 x 1080 maybe a little fps drop here and there but not as bad as D3 beta emulator thats good to know... Btw do you think adding more RAM will do any good or is 4 gb enough?? its DDR3 btw
I have two systems, i've installed and run the beta on both, results and specs below.
Desktop
Intel Core i5 2500(stock settings, no OC)
Nvidia GTX 285(also stock)
8GB DDR3
intel motherboard
Crucial M4 120GB SSD
***this system runs the game perfectly fine, everything maxed out at 1680x1050 resolution, though the first time asset loading jitters are very annoying.
Laptop
Asus G53SW
Intel Core i7 2.0ghz(forget exact model#)
6GB DDR3
Nvidia GTX460m 1.5gb
Crucial M4 120GB SSD
***This one disappointed me. I expected to at least be able to play at 1980x1200 resolution(native for the lcd) even if i had to turn settings down some to get better frame rates. Unfortunately to get the framerate up to a level that i consider playable(30-45fps average minimum) i had to drop not only settings to low, but also lower the resolution down to 1366x768 to get respectable performance at the expense of looking blurry due to not being the screen's native resolution. at 1980x1200 even at minimum quality settings i was getting framerates below 15 and even under 10fps at times whenever there was any sort of action, which is exactly when you NEED high framrates to be able to enjoy the game.
Hopefully a lot of these performance issues will be resolved in retail, if not the game is far more demanding then i was expecting and I'll be sad that my laptop effectively can't run D3 :(.

RAM is fine, no need to add more. BF3's recommended RAM is 4GB, so for D3 (2GB), 4GB is just fine!
RAM is used to store every graphical texture you see while playing (temporary storage). The more things happening in your games, and the higher your texture quality, the more RAM is needed.
Just wish they made comparing video cards simple… I understand the comparison for everything but that. It's like the make it difficult on purpose by the different brands and numbers and stuff.

IMO seems there is a lack of video settings available. I would expect more options for us computer users. Starcraft II has a nice set of available video options. WoW which is a 8+yr game has more video settings vs. D3. I would like to see more of everything under the video settings menu so we take advantage of our computers. Example, the texture settings only has medium and high with high only demanding 512MB of VRAM. I would like to see options for very high/max/ultra (any of these) available as options. I understand this is only a beta but I hope this trim down of video settings isn't due so this can be an easy port to the consoles. Also, the color system for Diablo 3 seems a bit washed/faded in certain areas. Now is this the way the game is meant to be?
Don't get me wrong, loving the beta but as with any game, there are concerns at hand.
There will be more graphics settings in the full release. I'm confident that there will be an ultra setting as well. I know anti-aliasing is permanently off in the beta (dunno if it still is):
I have an old system and it runs starcraft on low/medium quite softly..
My spec is Pentium Dual CPU E2180 @ 2.00GHz, GeForce 8400 GS and 2gb RAM.
I just want to play the game, don't even care about graphics, so I would play it on ultra low if possible.

Unfortunatly, graphics was set to 1024x768. The HD2400 is an old graphics card...
CPU: i5 2500k @ 4.5ghz
GPU: GTX580 (Overclocked by myself)
8GB C8 ram
Oh, and of course - 120gb intel 510 SSD >
I'd love to know this aswell. Going to get 2x 7970's - Would be nice to see if it only used one or both.
Well I think in your case, a single 7970 will more than max out every aspect of the game. With a 6770, it'll be close.
Since you obviously have the money for it, why not get the 6990? The 6990 is better...but the 7970 is more pricey.
