I wasn't saying its an odd res or a hard res to achieve playable framrates on, I have a 6970 this thing will make SC2 at 1080p 0 lag until a 400v400 battle comes. But i find it weird that they have a higher than HD resolution for MINIMUM. Some people really don't have HD displays, now you want them to go slightly past 720p? It just doesn't make alot of sense to me. Maybe this will be lowered for the actual game, but still it's odd they have min beta specs at 1024x768

1024*768 is standard for.. I think old 15" screens. The days when widescreen screens were scarce and everything was in 4:3. It being "over 720p" isn't really true. 720p is 1280×720 and gl finding a screens that runs that resolution :).
Also here are some stats pulled from wikipedia on resolution usage (on the internet):
Resolution % of Internet Users
Higher than 1024×768 85.1%
Less than or equal to 1280×1024 77.7+%
1280×1024 14.8%
1024×768 13.8%
800×600 0.6%
Lower than 800×600 0%
Think I could max it at 60fps? rig is in my sig, and I play at 1920x1080. I mean I'm fairly certain that I can, because I get like 100 fps in SC2 and 60-70 when there's a battle in 1v1.
Usually recommended is for 30 fps on high settings, not including ultra or anything.

Oh I stand corrected I thought because it was more than 720 pixels wide it was bigger than 720p, guess not because of the Aspect ratio and length in pixels. Good info though. Now I see why they made that move, although I'd want to see what D3 looks like at 800x600 just for some nostalgia.
To athene_wins all i have to say is... I have a 1080p screen and run it fine with a 6970... Don't make fun of my bunnies just cause your jealous. and your phone certainly does not have a higher res than 1024x768. Highest right now is apple's retina display.

When referring to minimum i would assume these specs would be needed to run the game at 800x600 and every setting on low.
While I do understand that pretty much everyone reading this will have way better systems than these minimums, it seems weird to me that having a dedicated GPU is pretty much a requirement if you even want to play pc games now.
I feel as though i must be mistaken in my thinking seeing that most people purchasing the game will be casual and not even know what a video card is. Especially since it should run fine on older systems. Does that refer to older gaming systems that most here have built or just 'older system'?
I have been waiting for Diablo III so I can get a new PC. I will actually need four (as there are four of me), however my challenge and financial problems are not your concern So my question, is 'recommended' going to give me everything or what is the absolute best system that will give me everything turned on?
Also, what bandwidth do I need? Currently I have a 56K modem - will that be enough or should I look to upgrade, especially as there will be four of us accessing it simultaneously all with everything turned on?
ps. awesome site, excellent casts, my source of Diablo nutrition for months... top job!
*Sigh. At casual laptop owners not knowing what decent graphics cards are most of them with shitty 310m's or less thinking "yay i have a dedicated GPU" in reality they're marginally better than intel hd... if you expect to play a ARPG on one of those then go buy torchlight ... Least I got my Nvidia gt540m to play on the move expecting medium-high at 1366x768 . Common Blizzard i just figuired out how to submit using my card not intel hd gimmmmme Bettta.
Interesting. I was under the impression that everyone thought a gfx card was essential for gaming. You're correct about casual gamers wanting to play this game, but surely even they must know that graphics integrated with the motherboard yields horrible performance? I am not trying to pick on you, I'm simply asking because I think our views on casual gamers differs quite a bit.
...So, how did you come up with that nickname of yours?
I'm casual in the sense that I grew up with warcraft 1-3 and diablo 1 and loved playing those games. I was about 12 and didn't know a thing about computers. Years down the road i hear blizzard is going to release the next of the warcraft series so i purchase on day 1 and become addicted for 2 years not even knowing was an mmo was at the time. I used my computer that i had bought for college which was mediocre when i got it a year and a half earlier. It suited my needs for the duration.
I bought a new computer six months ago and i'm realizing new, does not equal, "i don't even have to look at the games requirements" like it used to for me.
I'm a very casual pc gamer but i will do whatever it takes to play diablo 3 at release. All of my friends play console games but also have store bought, less than 2 year old computers. Convincing them to buy and try out the game would be easy but their computers won't cut it.

Metaphorically, my computer is a Barbarian, and those system req. are a fallen, in Act I, normal mode...
It's actually a pretty good idea.
Stickied.

My phone has a better resolution.
Go spend $10 and get a new moniter from a reuse center
Or take an old one from work
Jk... you dont have a job that uses computers, bunny boy
