I am really enjoying the changes they made to Diablo 3. Much better build diversity now and the new legendary weapons are awesome. Just waiting for them to finish the TDM PVP and expansion for some extra end game on top of paragon levels. Two new classes would be exciting. Maybe we all gave up on it to soon. I know I put 300 hours into it and then hit a brick wall in inferno act 2 and I REFUSED to use some standardized, boring build to survive. I really hope the Diablo community reunites. I know I've seen more of my friends on it as of late. I hope that trend continues and I hope at least one person reading this decides to log in and tinker with their builds or create a new character. Trust me it's much better now. You know, D2 didn't really reach it's full potential until it's expansion.
People are also too stubborn these days when it comes to games. People I know and from what I gather from forum posts among various sites, even if this game had changes that were better than anything than in D2 it would still be shit.
The public has already formed it's opinion on D3 and I don't think we will see it change until after an expansion and of course that is if the expansion makes it praise worthy. As it stands right now D3 is an OK game but it's not doomed. The depth the game is missing can be added. Some things would require an expansion but others not.
Overall most of the players that gave up on the game in June/July were WoW bandwagoners. There are true Diablo players who have also bailed. I'm not saying anyone who bailed is wrong but if you haven't played since pre 1.0.4 you may wanna check the game out again. Can make whatever argument against it you want - but it's free it can't hurt you to give the game a day or two. You did wait 4 years didn't you? Why give up so soon?
Blizzard's "Fuck that loser" mentality sure hasn't changed a large portion of the community's attitude. I've played lots of online games before including Star Wars Galaxies, Guild Wars 1+2, WoW, SWTOR, Planetside, and Path of Exile. Compared to all of these games, Diablo 3 by far has the unhappiest community I've ever encountered. Even after Galaxies had the controversial Combat Upgrade and "New Game Enhancements" the forums were still used to have civilized discussions of the game, not calling each other fanboys and trolls like D3's.
. Perhaps Diablo 3 should go the Final Fantasy 14 route of completely rebuilding the game from scratch to appease some of the unrest. This will never actually happen, but the solutions are very limited at this point. The RMAH is a source of frustration for many players, Blizzard should have implemented the feature in WoW first to judge reactions from the playerbase before adding it to an A-Rpg.
1. I'm bored - yes, I'm partially to blame for constantly AHing, but my goal was to hit top 5 DPS in the U.S., which I managed to do (never got #1, but #2 at one point was good enough for me).
2. Simply not enough fun content - 800 hours in, maxed out gear, paragon 100, 95% of all achievements done, geared almost all characters at one point or another, crafted dualfecta and trifecta Hellfire Rings, TOOK SCREENSHOTS FOR FUN... what else?
3. No real-life friends play - face it, it's more fun to play with people you know in real life. I'm the last of my friends to leave this game
4. Idiots - there are many of them, which is why I plan on becoming a casual gamer that plays happy-go-lucky single-player games
I got my fun out of the game. I met some cool gamers, but I really can't figure out what else I can do in this game other than holding down right click and left clicking shiny objects on the ground. I don't think PVP can convince me to come back. Just selling off my crap and moving on with life.

Fact is D2 had more build diversity and better weapons/items pre-expansion including PVP. The D2 expansion just added more.
D3, expansions will just finally add all the features they promised/showed off in the 1st place.
Also, there are no builds in D3. Just load outs like Call of Doody. Builds actually take some thinking and time to 'build'.
Maybe this game wil be awesome in the future. But, until then i just treat it like an arcade game instead of a ARPG.
Never gave up, still playing casually. Don't know what your talking about. Maybe if "everyone" as you refer to them didnt grind out 500 hours of gameplay in the first few months and actually played other games, watched movies, left the house "everyone" wouldn't burn out so fast. Play any non-mmo/sub game for 500 hours in a few months and see if after the 6th month you want to keep playing.

I remember comming here every day two month ago seeing you talking about the game and all. Knowing that you quit playing seems like the end of the world.
But i totally agree with you i quit playing for the same reason. Not did i hit the first five of any list with diablo 3 lol... Good job with that accomplishment by the way awesome !

The season is underway. Don't know if I'll make it through.
I haven't given up, but I'm the only one that is ever ever ever playing Diablo 3. All the rest of my friends who are on battlenet are either playing wow or sc2.
Also I don't understand the "given up" part of the title. What's wrong with looking for some other form of entertainment after 100s or even 1000s of hours of playing D3?
For some reason, idk if it's because of WoW or other mmo's or subbed games, gamers these days think they are supposed to buy a game and play it forever with new and exciting content and mechanics every month. Back in the day you bought Mario Bros. and played it til you beat it or got fed up and quit, then moved on to Mario Bros 2 or contra or whatever the next game may be. Now it's "I want a really shiny, in depth, diverse game with hundreds of hours of playability but I'm only going to pay for it once and then after I've beaten it and had my hundreds of hours of playtime I'm going to demand new things to do for free because I'm bored but can't be expected to find something else to do and just be happy with the time I got out of it."

I'm not entirely disagreeing with you, as I was there when Pong was released in the early 1970's.
However, the ONLY game that Diablo 3 should be compared to in any light is Diablo 2. Thusly, the expectations for Diablo 3 was that we would be enthralled with it for years.
I believe (I hope) that Diablo 3 will reach this platform given time.
As long as we bear in mind that "The Great Diablo 2" wasn't really "The Great Diablo 2" until it was "Diablo 2 - LoD."
Thats fine and all, except for the fact that Diablo 2 is a game released in 2000, we are currently in 2013. If diablo 3 was released as is in 2000 as well, id probably praise it as amazing. But this is currently not the case, this game is not up to par with anything i come to expect from good video games and what i ever come to expect from blizzard in 2012.
The game went back in time and lost so many features its pretty sad. This arguement that D2 wasent as good as it could have been before an expansion is weak as fuck.... yeah no fucking game can be as good as a year later when we add more stuff into it!!! SURPRISE!!!
Imagine if diablo 3 didnt come out as an half finished turd in 2012? Imagine what amazing things could have been added in later expansion and patches instead of having to use them to fix the game. Appologistic gamers are fucking funny, youll defend your fav developper even if they beat your ass with a crowbar on the street. Resident evil series anyone... lol.
Ok the resident evil thing was exageration, but still they messed up, there is no point defending that shit. Mabye they can fix it, mabye they cant. THEY STILL MESSED THE FUCK UP. This is the first failure of a game blizzard ever released to me, so im willing to give them some waylay and give them a chance in their next product, but fool me twice shame on me.
Not sure what you mean by fix and half finished turd. Almost everything "broken" was fixed in the first few weeks. I and many others are still playing regularily and enjoying the game. If you hate it that much maybe it just wasnt the game for you. And judging by your rage this must be the first time you bought something that wasnt what you expected...

First time from blizzard. It is still an unfinished turd, literally out of the 100 players i had from various games on my friend list , 3 remains that still play this game. There is just nothing to do without at least some sort of pvp or challenge of any kind. The game is unchallenging and impossible to enjoy as a video game, more people snipe the AH then play the game itself.
You can be appologistic all you want, grinding items to grind items to grind items is not a concept that works in 2012, people need more. Even games like world of warcraft, which i came to despise because it ruined my time out in the sun in the mid 2000, shows us that players need a linear progression in which they have to get rewarded by more then random luck and more activities then killing the same exact monster 5000 times in row.
But wow is an mmo bla bla!! I know how funny mmos showed the future to everyone else!! Look at call of doody, terrible game that is a freaking FPS yet emulated exactly what gamers want in about any game even bad ones. They have progression system, challenges to accomplish, little rewards. Its pretty much the only reason kids still buy this series to level up their gun and to unlock stuff.
D3 sells were huge for many factor. D2 was amazing by late 90s early 2000 standards, ITS BLIZZARD. Everyone expected a Blizzard game, something new, excisting, a new take on the series, a huge upgrade over D2 a game released 12 years ago. This is not an upgrade, this is why its failing.
You have nothing to do in the game, you grind your keys and your mobs to get gear to do nothing with it but grind more gear. You cant kill other players, there is no ladder. Nothing is a challenge, even mp10. I can make one of every class and finish mp10 with 1 million gold if i want its not a challenge i just go full defensive with all of them it just takes AGES to kill anything and its a bore fest for hours, this is the reverse of challenging.

Completion has never really been a challenge in these games. The challenge is in improving your character above what is needed for mere completion. Kill faster, take more monsters at a time etc.
I agree that ladders and pvp is needed to make this improvement progression more interesting however.
And it needs scaling content, where the improved character can test itself. Endless dungeons and similar. While MP1-10 is some sort of scaling content, and greatly improving the game, it is far from enough. Truly endless scaling would be nice. And if at all possible, scaling that was more than just +HP and +DMG.

I would agree with this, but Blizzard is continually making money off the RMAH. It'd be nice if all that funding went into making new and better content. Diablo 3 has the potential to be a really great game that I could play for a decade, as long as it does the right things in the next year or so, mostly involving end game content. I don't even personally care about PvP, just more immersive PvM content is fine, like an endless random dungeon. I'm just getting so bored of Act 3 over and over, at paragon 90 right now.

Not so bad for a Tuesday evening. Considering I have maybe 15 friends that have even tried the game. Wouldn't say everyone gave up just yet.
In before "personal experience doesn't count, none of my friends play".
Ha. Bagstone.
