I dunno man, i myself put in close to 1000 hours.
It isnt original.
It isnt fun.
Its tedious & boring.
I dont perse "hate" diablo3... i just dont like the fact that they completly ignore us.
Its an ARPG...a Hunt / Collect kind of Game...without anything interesting to collect.
And the "Hunt" is kinda boring as well...thats the big problem in my eyes.
Most people moved on.
And i believe until Blizzard doesnt change the game almost entirely they wont be back.
Perhaps after a patch for 2-3 weeks...but then people leave again.
But who knows?
Perhaps 1.07 gonna be the best Patch ever.
The game has improved there is no doubt about that! But there has been no change to the fundamental systems. its a change to most basic systems that will bring me and judging by this thread many other players back.
I want my character development to be interesting and i have not really found that this development journey in D3 is very interesting, your choices just dont make that much difference and the best choices feel like they are pre-destined and obvious before you even start playing.
I'm still sticking around and I have a few friends who are popping back on every day.
Admittedly, I've only got a total of about 300 hours of game play, so I'm not necessarily sick of the game. I take breaks between runs so I don't burn myself out.
I had friends who quit for pretty odd reasons: "Blizzard Customer support was bad! I don't support this game anymore!" (what...? seriously?) or "RMAH IS TOO OVERPOWERED! This is just another Play2Win scam by Blizzard!"

1: You don't play something for 1000 hours you find boring. Maybe you're bored of it now, but that's not Blizzard's fault. It happens. Play something else and quit griping.
2. They ignore the community? Are you high 24/7? They listen to the community way more than any developer. Almost every single change since release has been because of community feedback.
This cracks me up. How the hell can you invest 1000 hours into something you find unoriginal, not fun, tedious and boring?
This thread blows. Either shit or get off the pot.
Kid i play videogames since almost 30 years.
1000 hours is nothing...i probably spend more time on the gameboy back in the days playing tetris.
Or are you trying to bring the argument "1000 hours, totally worth the 60 bucks!" ?
So until you have something clever to say, perhaps let it be...

Ah, so you think the most obvious changes to game mechanics... like legendarys, or missing endgame were made because of the community ?
I'd say they done it because of the bad press... because even the press figured it out, and wrote about it.
Hell there were even Game Magazines who subsequently lowered the ratings for D3.
Well, I don't sign in here too often so i just now read almost all the replies. I think an expansion would breathe life into the game again. Socket quest/res quest/2 new chars. That's what I wan't. I would also like them to make ponies worth a F again. Anyone remember how often those clouds dropped rares before the chest nerf!!!!? Someone replied that there is no build diversity...I can solo mp 7, full party mp 5-6 with my FRENZY barbarian. I have a comet wizard and a zombie charger Witch doctor and I've managed to make them all work. I like to be unique and I don't run into many people with builds like mine at all.

I wouldn't want them to rush an expansion until this game is... er, maximized potential-wise. Then while 90% of the player-base is drowning in bliss, Blizzard can release an expansion then to further hype everything up (thereby maximizing their sales).
(And let's not mess with the current stats too much, else it sort of screws with people who invested a lot of time, effort, and/or money into their gear)
More quests, new characters, new items (with more combinations of stats), add more effects from existing stats (buffs, not nerfs), more side-games, bigger parties, bigger social lobbies, etc. will improve this game a ton.
Don't forget to give resists a more interesting role to play.
Yep, that's what I meant about adding more effects to existing stats, including resists. Wouldn't it be nice if fire resist also gave you the ability to burn attackers on contact, cold resist slows the attack and move speed of attackers, poison resist to inflict some kind of armor/resistance debuff to attackers, etc. and just keep "resistance to all" as basic EHP boosters?
And maybe instead of just diminishing returns on dodge for dexterity, there can also be an additional % bonus to attack speed (very small, perhaps 0.25% per 100 points, so 3,000 dexterity will give 7.5% more attack speed, which isn't too bad). Strength can add crit damage (perhaps 2% per 100 points, so 3,000 strength will give 45% more crit damage, intelligence can add crit chance (perhaps 0.15% per 100 points, so 3,000 intelligence will give 4.5% more crit chance)... something along those lines.
Oh, and perhaps move speed innately grants a % to dodge, as well? After all, the faster you move, the faster you should be able to evade attacks. Maybe give armor bonuses a small % to block? Seriously, only a small handful of people use shields, and most of them just want the massive armor and off-hand crit chance.
Maybe some stats in combination with others (perhaps throw some kind of breakpoint here) will grant additional effects? Maybe high CHC + CHD will grant a chance to inflict MASSIVE bleed effects on a target? High IAS in combo with int will grant chance to knock back? IAS + dex can blind? IAS + strength can stun?
More synergy! More unlockable bonuses!
P.S. Sapphire gems to add life steal for weapons, resistance for armor/jewelry, AP on crit/Hatred regen/Spirit regen/Life per Fury spent/Mana per kill for helms!
The game is fun to play but has a severe lack of anything approaching depth. I think there are a few easy fixes that, in the short term, improve the game without requiring an expansion or any serious systemic changes:
1) Some sort of stat linking to make stat choices interesting (since Blizz seems militant on not making any deep changes to the skill system, at least in the forseeable future).
2) Increase mob density across every area/act.
3) Give us a reason to go somewhere other than Act III to kill stuff by giving bosses an increased chance to drop items/maybe a paragon xp bonus/etc (why this wasn't there at launch almost killed my faith, of which there was a lot, in Blizzard).
4) Tighten the stat ranges on 60+ items, especially legendary items. Make Echoing Fury not the best weapon for every class.
5) Gems that do more than increase your main stat and crit damage (another complete failure that I do not understand).
I wouldn't think these would be too hard to implement in a single patch and would provide a huge boost to what is a game with great playability but absolutely no depth or other form of user engagement.
Edit: Didn't see Jaetch's post above while I was writing mine. And not all of these ideas are original and have been mentioned elsewhere, but are worth repeating.
I don't play as much as i use to mostly beacase I got sick of having to: grind hours for a good drop, then roll the AH with it until it sell, then try to buy an upgrade. The 3 step process is so heavily baised on user volumn that it takes a lot of the fun out of the game for me. I've got 250+ hours out of it so i don't call it giving up. I call it simply being finished. Every game has a beguning and end. D2 & D3 offer a lot more fun then most games i've played.
There's no purpose to play the game, and I mean that as literal as possible. As it was highlighted in that well written post by Vaelfire, I'm forced to play through the same content 4 times to accomplish nothing more than what I did the first 3 times.
I played all 5 classes, to inferno completion, I don't need to farm to get gear to farm to get gear to farm to get gear to farm to get gear etc. etc. I still got well over 300 hours among the 5 classes, that's a good value for a game in today's age. I don't need to put anymore time into it if I'm not getting anything out of it. Especially if there are other games out there to be played.

Well, ive played D2 from release to expansion nonstop, and even far beyond that.
D3 doesnt even cut close if you compair it.

I wouldn't mind starting fresh sometime in the future when this game is... how would I put it...
Replayable (or complete).
