because they usually dont give oscars to dead people? Ledger is dead, so in result, he will probably not get it
So you're just saying it's improbable then? And why do you think not a lot of actors who died went on to win Oscars? Probably because not many actors who were going to win Oscars ended up dying around the time they were going to win them. My point is that him being dead should be totally irrelevant regarding whether or not he wins an Oscar.
But you can't just say he won't win won partly because they don't usually give dead actors awards. It's just that not a lot of Oscar winning actors died during the year of them being nominated for an Oscar.
Wait, why do you think not having Ledger there to accept the award will affect whether or not he'll earn the award?
And didn't Daniel Day Lewis already win an Oscar the previous year for There Will be blood?
I wasn't saying they are competing, because both There will be blood, and Sweeney Todd were last years films. I was just stating that Heath did better than both of those actors, and they were both nominated and one of them won.
And yes, Heath could technically win the award, but come on. If James Dean can't win for East of Eden and Giant, Heath isn't going to win for TDK. However much I wish it to be so, it just won't happen.

Thats exactly what I'm saying, it's very improbable. But like you said, it doesn't matter anyway. Getting an Oscar doesn't mean anything, we all know it was good.

Actually, an Oscar worthy performance by an actor who has passed away is more likely to win, not less likely.
There is nothing to back that statement up, only logic. There was a news article posting on msnbc where they just discussed that any post-deceased actor worthy of an Oscar, never won it.

Who is the competition this year? Oh yeah... no one. Also, there haven't been that many cases where there was a chance.

It doesn't matter who the competition is. I was referring to this comment:

You said his death would give him a better chance at winning. I disagree with that statement. As shown with past nominees, their death did not get them the award. That doesn't mean their death was the deciding factor, although it sways more against your arguement. It just proves that a death doesn't necessarily grant them sympathy votes. An awards ceremony of that scale is going pay attention to sympathy votes.
Hands down Heath Ledger did amazing. He should be given an award irrelevant to his death. It does not mean he's more likely to win because of his death.
but we dont think of a superhero movie, nomatter how good the performance as a actor, it's ushally something more emotional, or dramatic, not a super hero movie. That's why they should give it too him!
Oscars should be rewarded for great performances, not for great performances AND the ability to physically receive them. I don't believe Heath Ledger's death will be a hindrance to winning, but his competition will. I wonder who else will be nominated though? I haven't seen many movies this year nor have I heard of any other good male performances.
It's a fake death to contribute to the hype of the movie and it worked.. look how much money the movie is making.
He just wanted to vanish from the acting life and leave one final impression on the people.

Ok, everyone help me out here, I saw they movie for the 2nd time yesterday and one thing i'm just not sure of, is 2 face dead? When batman tackled him out the window, did he just get knocked out or is he dead?
Also, who do you guys want the next villain to be?
I myself am in love with the riddler and really want it to be him because he has been and always will be my favorite villain in any superhero type thing.
But I think the next villain may be the penguin.

I never liked the penguin because he looks stupid.
I hope they don't do Mr. Freeze because he is unrealistic.
heres a short background of the riddler.
He cannot simply kill his opponents when he has the upper hand; he has to put them in a deathtrap to see if he can devise a life and death intellectual challenge that the hero cannot solve and escape. However, unlike many of Batman's themed enemies, Riddler's compulsion is quite flexible, allowing him to commit any crime as long as he can describe it in a riddle or puzzle
After a teacher announces that a contest over who can solve a puzzle the fastest will be held, a young Edward Nigma sets his sights on winning this, craving the glory and satisfaction that will come with the victory. He sneaks into the school one night, takes the puzzle out of the teacher's desk, and practices it until he is able to solve it in under a minute. As predicted, he wins the contest and is given a book about riddles as a prize. His cheating rewarded, Nigma embraced the mastery of puzzles of all kinds, eventually becoming a carnival employee who excelled at cheating his customers out of their money with his bizarre puzzles and mindgames. He soon finds himself longing for greater challenges and thrills, and dons the guise of the Riddler to challenge Batman, whom he believes could possibly be a worthy adversary for him.

I'd say the next villain will either be the Riddler, Catwoman, or Raz al Gul's daughter... though I think I remember Nolan saying Catwoman won't be in his series, she's been around since the Joker.
I'm not totally sure about Two-Face. There seemed to be a funeral of sorts for him at the end of the movie. But they could have held a fake funeral and hid the real Dent in the Asylum to avoid corrupting the city. It's a damn shame Heath's Joker will never reappear--great Batman villian and probably one of the best movie villians of all time.

That still doesn't mean its worth an Oscar.
Popular =/= Oscar worthy. Its just so happen that Dark Knight = both popular and Oscar worthy, lol
