I was wondering instead of space limitation should there be a weight restriction instead? For example, when you start off with like 20 Str you can carry 50 lbs worth of stuff. But as you level up and gain more strength you can carry more.

Generally, when Weight restrictions are applied, Mages hold the least weight. Warriors the most. The most common example is that of Dungeons and Dragons.
Could probably take that table and multiple the STR by 10 (i.e add a zero to it), making it 30, 40, 50 60, etc, and probably rework the 18/XX-XX bits, as you don't have fractional statistics in Diablo. 250 is a lot for a base statastic. On a side note, primary stats in Diablo 1 maxed out at 255. 255 STR for the Warrior, 255 DEX for the Rogue, and 255 Magic for the Sorcerer.
It's an interesting idea, but it might force more stats into STR than prehaps you would like. Unless you leve lso much so quickly throughout the game that investing an extra 10 levels into STR will not leave you at a disadvantage.

both make very good points, congrats for Elfen Lied for making the table puts things into perspective. the only thing i have with it is at 25 STR you have 1600 lbs!! thats alot of stuff. Thats were 6037048 comes in with the sorceress being able to carry so much. I dont think i would ever see a sorceress with 1600 lbs of stuff. It puts more strategy in what to keep and what to throw away. Elfen may have the right idea but implementing it for each character would be very difficult.

I say no, things like that make the game more complicated not necessarily more fun just because its realistic. One thing i would hate would be to xfer stuff i have for a new character that is lvl 1 that i plan on making really good but when i pick up all the stuff i cant take it to myst stash because it ways to much. I dont know, im a fan of just having an inventory and filling it up with stuff and when you need more room just drop something and pick up the thing you want.
I believe they should include weight limits and town portal limits. There should be a lot fewer, but maybe stay open until a second is created, instead of closing when you go back through it.
I think if they started using the weight thing like other fantasy games, it would be like tearing out a major component of the game, just as sure as if you took away town portal scrolls or isometric view. The block system thing is what I'm used to- it makes me fit stuff into OCD patterns and squeeze in every last bit I can.
I'm just speaking in relation to Diablo, though. I don't mind it in other games. It's just, that's a major part of the Diablo experience for me.
i voted for weight instead of space. with weight the max you can carry could be increased by the strenght stat. no ammount of strenght can make your back pack bigger.

Well Dungeons and Dragons and other such games do have items known as Bags of Holding, wherein items can be stored, much like the Horadric Cube. You also get specific containers, such as gem bags and scrol cases and potion cases.
The different classes with different weight allowances is dictated not so much to the classes but rather their stats. A mage will max out his wisdom and intelligence first, thus his strength is low, so he cannot carry much. The warrior maxes out his strength first so he can carry alot.
It's hard to truly implement this in Diablo as the stats work in a vastly different way. Anyone can max any stat and have it not really impose any penalty. In DND is a mage maxes out his STR before, or rather than his INT, he cannot cast as many spells.

Yes you would actually have to level your mules.

Agreed, I like the idea of the scroll cases and such like that but don't the tomes and belts do the same thing? Jeez, I now see that games are so similar these days. I just hope that D3 comes up with some new ideas

To a point.
Tomes hold 20 scrolls, and only of one type, TP or Identify. in DnD scroll cases hold upwards of 100 easily, and it doesn't matter what scroll it is. Fireball, Ice Bolt, Summon Elemental, Flame Sword. (20 slots, and items stack to 5. (unless you have a mod. then they stacl to 9999))

Ahh ok, by the way that reminds me that the original Diablo had spell scrolls other then TP and Identify. Do you think that D3 should adopt the scroll case idea while bringing back other magic scrolls? Makes sense if you're the type of player that desires space use rather than weight restriction.

They should get rid of Stamina in D3
Edit- I voted for Yes, but changed my mind about 10 seconds later lol
