Looks like hiring for the new Diablo Project has finished. With that last job; Game Director, being filled as of today. I wonder if they will make an announcement soon to introduce the new head of Diablo or stay hushed until Blizzcon.
Whoever it is hopefully has a strong grasp on what makes Diablo such a good game/IP and tries to incorporate that essence into the new project.
The next Diablo is going to follow the Chinese model of free and tons of microtransactions.
The days of boxed, buy once, software and gaming is diminishing and Blizzard seems to be focusing more of their game development and properties to transactional business models.
I believe, personally, that there's as much if not more thought being given to the business model of Diablo 4 as there is to the actual game.
If they filled today this director spot there will be no Diablo news in Blizzcon. They are not gonna anounce a project thats just 2 months old.
Lead Game Directors RARELY design a game from scratch. They typically take something that is 6 months to 2 years in progress and give it the fine tuning that their expertise allows.
Typically, the company says, "This is what we want, start designing it ASAP!!!" Then as I said above, they look for the perfect Director to add the much needed polish. Games do not work AT ALL like movies do. At least not for larger companies like Blizzard-Activision.

His thoughts echo mine in that I think Wyatt Cheng will be announced as new Game Director. He's A Diablo OG from way back in the Blizzard North days. I think this would be an excellent choice if he were to take the helm.

pretty much this. you dont need a game director in early stages.
Read the job descriptions for each one. This smells like an entirely new game and less and less of another expansion. Blizzard seems enthusiastic with their recruitment too; a good sign IMO.

"for Diablo 3 and any future projects with the franchise" "for all Diablo games" "to work on all things Diablo"
This doesn't really tell us *anything*. The fact that the UI Designer even gets to do some D3 work gets my hope up that they fix some of the horrible UI design decisions made in the past (I've pointed some out in my much-too-long wall of text I posted a while ago on the official forum).
I personally would hire all those people just to fix the stash tab (general implementation as well as the clumsy addition of a second page which is just terribly executed). Hopefully they'll make some small UI improvements in upcoming patches, nothing groundbreaking, just address some of the issues (also the fact that you need to do 100 clicks to change difficulty). After that, the job description tells them they continue working on whatever is up Blizzard's sleeve - could be D4, D2HD, D3X2, D3 mobile, or whatever-we-haven't-discussed-ye.

This has been the only job description that mentions Diablo 3 specifically; out of the 20 odd new jobs posted. New expac or new game? Either one is a win in my book.

You're a wizard Harry.....
but how will the new director influence that project they are going to show that will let us lose our collective shit?
or do we get a new director who then starts the new project and which gets the first announcements two years from now?
