So my 2 brothers in law are more excited for Skyrim to be released and I am more excited for D3. One of them said that the two companies have never competed for game of the year before as they have never had a release in the same year...
So say D3 and Skyrim do get released in 2011... what game do you think will win
(Note I know posting this on Diablofans will be biased but try to be objective)
I hate RPGs that force me to talk to NPCs for 10 minutes picking lines of text in order for them to tell me whats going on or where i have to go.
I love how in Diablo III NPCs will be talking to you and telling you everything you need to know while you are out killing monsters not slowing the game down.
After watching that 40 minute gameplay video of Skyrim from Quakecon i noticed the combat really needs work imo.
Never played a full game of elders scrolls yet. I do have oblivion for xbox 360 but I only finished the quest where you escape the cave then I stopped playing it, sad I know. I'm sure Skyrim will win a lot of awards (could win goty) vs diablo 3 because skyrim is more open sand box game, I heard. Diablo 3 might not win many awards or goty but we all know that it will sell more than skyrim or any games out there.

I love all loot fest kind of game! I will be playing all of them for the next few years. Loot fest games I'm looking forward to: LotR: War in the North,Torchlight 2,Borderlands 2 and of course Diablo 3.
isnt skyrim a first person rpg? I hate that @#$$#@
plus the trailer was kind of lame looking.
and apparently you have to read text for 10 minutes? fail.
Skyrim will win Game of the year...because one, it is an epic series and two...it will actually come out this year.
<--The Elder Scrolls fanboy.
Seriously, if D3 comes out this year I will be screwed. Diablo and TES series are at the top of my list for gaming. TES gets my number one slot just because it is the type of game I like, I enjoy sandbox games. Diablo is a close second, spent almost as many hours with my friends in the diablo series as I did running around in the TES games. All I know is that a sequel to my top two game series are coming out very soon and I can't be any happier...my free time will suffer in such a good way.
It's by Bethesda, even if it is at least as good as Diablo 3; The amount of bugs will bring it down, because Bethesda games ALWAYS have tons of bugs.
I'm not talking out my ass on this one either, i play their games, i like their games, but they lose a lot of points in my book just for how buggy ALL of their games are (to this day...as in, they still havent fixed most of the bugs).

Skyrim doesn't really look that impressive to me yet. I haven't seen enough third person footage to really make it so. If you wanna talk open world games, Amalur is the one I'm looking forward too. Awesome footage at Gamescom.
Diablo will win game of the year. Skyrim will prolly got something like best singleplayer RPG or whatever, maybe even best graphics, or best world design. I still think though that D3 is more deserving of GOTY.
motha eff lol, I've never even heard of Amalur and decided i'd type it in google after reading Seluhir say something about it. First thing I read? 'Reckoning has announced launch date!' I know i know *whiiiiiiine
I can't choose man... it's like holding a gun to my children's heads and telling me to pick which one dies!
They're too different. When I have a large chunk of time and attention I'll be on Skyrim. When I'm sorta playing while distracted and stuff I'll probably be on D3, it's hard to say.
Diablo is my game!
But hope to be able to buy Skyrim too since I like TES games.
But Bethesda, as Gharbad pointed out, need to do a better job on refining/polishing the code.
And they need not to use google translator for their games, I've sent them a mail offering free translation for Skyrim...Oblivion was outrageously badly translated in italian.
The one thing I hate about Bethesda games is the melee always SUCKS. Hopefully they fix this in Skyrim but it won't have even half the replay value of D3 imo.
I'll get more mileage out of D3. And Elder Scroll games are only fun in the beginning. You can't go on playing them for too long before recognizing just how stale everything is. But D3 will be a huge disappointment anyway because it's been so long since D2 that it can't possibly ever live up to its own expectations.
TES is a very good franchise but i don't think it has what it takes to keep its longevity. I remember playing oblivion a couple of years back. I had a good couple of months run but it got boring as soon as i decided to clear the main story line. everything seemed to be of no point after that. Though, i have very fond memories of oblivion, no doubt. Skyrim ill sure be fun and I will love it for its style but that is just that. I am sure, after 100 hours of gameplay, it will become bland just like its predecessors.
Diablo 2 on the other hand was so freaking epic. even though it wasn't a sand box-like game, the thrill of making your character godly drove me through playing it for years. There was a problem with Diablo 2 though; the world is small, and there wasn't much content. Diablo 3 is fixing its mistakes as its been said. I'm sure diablo 3 will make game of the year. This game took 10 years and its still not out. The hard work, the polish, and millions of brain cells put into this shouldn't be taken lightly, as with any other blizzard title. Skyrim, was set and made and now already going to be out without a doubt. The difference is very hard to miss.
I find it hilarious that people are contemplating Game of the Year between a game that has thus far only been shown in videos and hasn't even started its beta, against another game which we've seen barely anything of.
In terms of the whole game, you're comparing an online experience to a singleplayer one. Skyrim will have more depth, better graphics and a much more complex system of progression as per their series. D3 will be much faster, more fluid, and based on the economy of online players. Apples and oranges. Regardless, to give D3 the edge or vice versa is stupid, you haven't played either, you're speculating at this point, and who's to say Battlefield 3 won't take Game of the Year honours? Why does it have to be an RPG? I guarantee Portal 2 is taking home some awards too..

We like to call them RPG's.
And BF3 will win game of the year. It's being marketed, it's being hyped, it looks pretty, they're grabbing the CoD kiddies, and the gameplay itself is pretty solid. It might only be "BFBC2 w/ Jets" to some, but BFBC2 was a damned good game (at least in my 750ish hours on PC). I'm sure Activision will buy a slot for MW3 to sit on most reviewers GOTY judging panels though.

Maybe make a thread like this AFTER both games are actually released and played?

In addition to that Diablo 3 > Skyrim if you can even compare them (you can't IMO, two different game types).
