I'm debating between Monk and Witch Doctor. I played monk classes in several games before so I tend to like their style, specially way back when I played EQ but I'm starting to think I need to branch out more. After watching the couple of rune videos from the monk though it got a bit harder too.
Hellfire was so crazy. Another company making the expansion for what is now a AAA title just sort of boggles the mind, unless the companies are both owned by another one. That said, it was still pretty exciting to play. I'm probably going to have monk be my character that gets all the items handed down from my DH.
Edit: I really doubt any of the classes will be really bad.. Even if they were, in classic Blizzard balancing fashion, things that are extremely weak are the next things to be way too powerful.
Most likely I'll be rolling a monk first. The flow of the class just suits my play style much more than any of the others do. That and the amount of utility you can bring to group play is just astonishing. The versitility imo is just unrivaled and should definitely lead to some exciting solo and group gameplay.
I am really torn between Wiz/DH and the Monk. My favourite class in D2 is Assassin, and monk+DH are kinda incorporated in it! SO i dunno, I thought this release delay was gonna give me more time to decide, but it's making it even worse! I started thinking about playing ze Wizard! Aaah!
I've been waiting for it since I heard it was announced It was always either Monk or Wizard first, since in D2 sorcs were the easiest to start MFing on.
I've been watching a heap of videos, and I know it's only low level play, but the monk looks pretty dang powerful.
hmm... yes, monk will be my main char and of coz a Female char, i don't like the bald monk too
my 2nd char should be Demon Hunter, nice skill animation, fast attack speed
Will be my starter character, but not sure if main or not, too early to tell. I do love the theme of the character and the only thing that bugs me is not being able to put away my weapons when I move around (since I will not be using them).
Barb will be my first and my main. I don't think I will have any alts for quite some time until I get my barb fully geared the way I want him. That way I can trade away good items without feeling remorse for not saving them for my alts.
I think that monk is more exposed since he his up-close and personnal. This means he will probably sink more gold, for repairs and for dying as exemple.
My first caracter will be the WD and the Monk will be my second caracter. I will play both of them simultaneously but with a lvl gap. This way, my monk will follow my WD progression and gain gear from him so that he can be less of a gold drainer. My WD will be used much for farming gold and monk items.
The monks been nerfed so hard these days.. To the point where several of his skills are near useless now, Wave of Light in particular. Which idiot thought it was a good idea to cut WoL's damage by 2/3rds and yet keep the resource cost the same?!. In any case, if this is the trend of how the monk is going to go ill be passing on him. At least until he becomes the flavour of the month again and gets all his shit fixed up.
Like some of you, I was going to choose the monk as my first character, but with all these nerfs it is quite the turn off. The monk seems much less appealing than it initially did. I don't understand some of the major nerfs, I'm also not in the beta so I don't know of some of these skills are OP or not; perhaps someone in the beta could shed some light on this? I'm contemplating on which class I would choose, if I were not to choose the monk, because the rest of the classes just don't fit my play style... The only class that is slightly interesting to me would be the Demon Hunter, but I've been reading that people claim the Demon Hunter to be underpowered.
I was going to play monk first but now Im doing WD since hes way more unique and badass
After a few playthroughs of the beta, I'm going to have to agree with you. I was drawn to the monk at 1st because of the damage I was doing. This was because the dex items dropped much more frequently than the int items... for me anyway. Now that I transferred over some int items to my WD, making his gear and monk's gear comparable - I'm going to stick with the WD as my 1st/main.
I'm praying they wont. I wish Hellfire was Multiplayer.
