Just want to know whether Normal Difficulty, or the first act, was in some sort designed to be an introductory difficulty/act for new players to get used to the gameplay ect.? Or is it just normal like Normal was suppose to be? Not that I'm new to Diablo, was just wondering.
Thanks
Logically you would have to assume that its designed to be an introductory act like you have stated. Remember there are going to be a heap of players that have never even heard of diablo before!
Yeah logically it makes sense, but has blizz actually stated this somewhere/sometime or do they think its kinda self explanatory to people to assume so?
The majority of Act 1 in Diablo 2 was also very easy and gradually got players used to how the game's mechanics worked - people just seem to forget that since they have been playing the game for years.
Similar to how you didn't get access to the Horadric Cube until Act 2, you won't get access to runes in this game until Act 2. That having been said, D3 does give a lot more options to the player even in the first 1/3 we have so far (Nephalem Cube, Cauldron of Jordan, Stone of Recall, crafting, etc).
I wouldn't worry about it. You can probably make a good arguement that D2 does not even get hard until getting close to Hell mode, so the first part of Act 1 on Normal isn't a very good indicator of how things are going to go.
People who haven't been watching the Beta videos are going to get killed a few times, even in Act1 by the Arcane Enchanted monsters. Not hard at all if you are ready for them, but I'm sure some folks will die.
I'm thinking the difficulty will ramp up a bit when Runes start dropping (lvl 14?) too. But overall, I'm not expecting Normal or Nightmare to be very hard at all out side of a few rough bosses / rare monster pack spawns.
I find myself disagreeing with most on the fact that it's easy. There's Normal, Nightmare, Hell, and now even Inferno which may be intended to be close to "impossible". On top of that there's Hardcore mode if you want a tougher challenge still, and you're still not happy? My point is not only this, but the fact that even Normal seemed like a "fair" challenge, like force dying a few times. (Not saying he's super leet or anything) but the mobs seemed to pack a punch, which was clearly noticeable on his health bar, if you followed that.
Dunno what you'd expect, normal being super hard ? It's the lowest diff, it should be not only manageable, but easy, so that every player no matter how crappy can do it. That's the point, casuals play games as well. I like a challenge, and I'm a fan of tough games, but I still think of others, if you want a non-casual game then you have that option. No where does it say Diablo is just for "leets". The casual player has as much right to play games as you do.
I would expect that for seasoned Diablo veterans (like us ;)) Act 1 will be quite easy, it certainly appears that way in the beta. Blizzard is always tinkering with the gameplay but I doubt they will make it that much harder in the release. I would expect most content in the early acts to be relatively easy for players who are following a build and choosing items accordingly. I'm sure some of the later dungeons and quests will really put us to the test! Rest assured, sooner or later you will be challenged but maybe that won't be until hell/inferno.
how many games out there are hard at lv 1? really?
not many...cause ppl would immediately leave, if you died on 1st mobs.
so most games are intentionally very easy at low lv, so you can take your time to learn the game.
anyways, it's not very easy, i seen ppl die in streams, and mobs do quite alot of damage sometimes, it only looks very easy, cause of some elite ppl playing with good gear at low lv, so they dont even take any damage, but for new ppl it will be a bit of a challenge anyways.
I am almost tired of all the "wah it looks easy" or "is act 1 going to be difficult" threads.
The beta is not all of act 1, it isn't even half... The beta imo is almost the "tutorial" phase of the game. I am sure the difficulty will go up past the skeleton king. From pre beta footage in the desert it looks like there will be tons of mobs and it will be a steady attack all the time almost. Another thing if you watch any of forces videos you can see he gets very close to kicking the bucket every so often and he is a "pro" gamer. Difficulty is also a relative term so where the beta may actually be insane for some people its easy for others. You will have to wait and try out the game yourself to make the final verdict on what you think.
We've talked about this with the development team a good deal. While it's very likely you'll see tweaks here and there to classes and creatures throughout beta, there's still a learning curve of which you're only seeing its miniscule beginning.
The way that difficulty ramps up through an entire play through of the game -- and then again with each difficulty setting -- resource management, crowd control, skill use, etc. become extremely important. As far as beta content goes, we more or less want your grandmother to be able to pick a class and have reasonable success up to the Skeleton King (I mean no disrespect to grandmothers! I'm just using a stereotypical illustration in jest to put some perspective on the learning curve for the beginning of the game.)
So in all honesty, resource management shouldn't be a very big concern on Normal difficulty up to the Skeleton King. We've tried tuning the numbers in various ways around the board. We've found that the gameplay of having to worry or focus too much on resource management while just starting out and on this difficulty setting, is pretty crappy. This isn't World of Warcraft. We want you feeling comfortable wearing down your poor mouse and keyboard.
I really hate to say "don't knock it 'til you've tried it," as I know the response from most people here would be, "well let me friggin' try it!" But the point still stands. We want you to feel pretty good when you're starting out. We don't want you to shy away from spamming your skills and feeling really powerful. You'll actually learn pretty quickly this way how your resources regenerate and how to manage them -- you'll learn what you're capable of. That's what an action RPG is all about to us. That said, and as with all Blizzard games, you'll have to trust me when I say this one is easy to learn, but will be difficult to master.
That's right.. your grandmother should be able to beat it. </thread>
But seriously yes Act 1 Normal will be easy just like in D1 and D2. However with those Arcane hydras(mentioned by snowhammer) D3 looks to be the hardest in this regard.
Just think about this, how many times did you die in Act1 normal on your way to Blood Raven?
The engine should auto detect you pwning monsters and include higher mlvl enemies to compensate. More super uniques too. This would provide for more of a challenge and better loot Again, I doubt very many areas in normal will be challenging for Diablo veterans like ourselves.
My guess is that even the further acts of normal difficulty will be somewhat easy for an organized group of veterans. This group having one of each class (tank,heals,2x dps) and sharing drops amongst themselves for whoever the item best suits in order to help the progression of the team. I'm speculating that NM difficulty will be where we are truly tested (again, this is for veterans with a game plan... people new to the game might have a much more difficult time getting to NM)

I'm positive my grandmother doesn't even know how to hold a mouse.. I think she might be scared of them..
Also, how awesome would it be if the game was released and right after it 50 threads appear on the official forums saying the first Act's boss is nigh impossible to beat without grinding a bit, and people saying this isn't WoW I'd laugh really hard (and I'm sure Jay Wilson would too)..

Dude, did you read my whole post? "Not that I'm new to Diablo, was just wondering." I'm not at all complaining about the fact that Normal is to easy or to hard...I was just wondering because I heard somewhere that the first Act is like an intro for new player. And the fact that I'd watch Force's vids and as you pointed out, died with the Barb a couple of times but destroyed the beta with the monk. So I'm not really sure.

Yes, having someone dedicated to soak damage and a monk who can help spam a heal ability and run mantras to help teammates. It's a co-op game, so a good team composition is always advantageous.
I have a feeling that either the arcane hydras in act 1 will be toned down. Also the monster that has some sort of fire damage explosion. I think I have only seen deaths by those monsters. I think those only came from unique/champion monsters and I think those deaths only happened when they did not have great gear or on the first run through.

On Strike and supporting Fallout 4 Mod Makers
Some fallout 4 mod makers have had their mods stolen and uploaded and downloaded on Bethesda's site for the Xbox One.
It's called difficulty/learning curve. It's a fundamental game design concept that's been around since the NES. Yes, the beginning of the game will be easy... and the end will be hard.
Thanks
