After playing through all three classes at Blizzcon, I just wanted to give everyone an impression of how it compares to D2.
*The overall art-style and environments certainly are darker than the previous game(s). You can complain about it being "like WoW" or "cartoony," but this just isn't the case. The Tristram Woods and Cathedral were actually some of the darker areas I've seen in Diablo games in general.
*Believe it or not, I thought the gameplay was faster than the previous games. Being a 3D game more so than the previous ones, I thought this might lead it to being slower-paced. This isnt the case; you're constantly fighting monsters and looting.
*There was a large amount of random encounters, random loot, and random quests throughout. The dungeons looked different on each playthough for me. I saw about one or two rare monsters, and quite a few yellow (rare?) items.
*Playing as Barbarian was slightly boring to be honest, but WD and Wiz were great.
If everyone goes as it is now, this game is going to be great! If you're worried about graphics being cartoony or otherwise not dark enough, don't fret, this just isnt the case.
Great news - i gona play male Knight first, then female Wizz
And where does this male Knight come from exactly...Are you posting on the right thread? We are talking about a demo which is comprised of M/W Witch Doctor, Barb, and Wizard. Stop smoking that good shit man and get with the program.
Is the barb alot different then D2 barb, or is it just some few new skills, not talking about looks. *Eroon*
Well said. However I hope the creator of the thread can please explain in detail the comparison between the D2 and D3 Barb. Both in gameplay style and in the visual feel of the char. Also hopefully give us your take on Blizzard's idea of really making the Barb more destructive, was that successfully implemented or not, or do you feel like it was too early yet in game Dev to tell.

The gameplay vids so far are great, the speed is phenomenal and it looks to be packed with action. Now its really just about how the game absorbs you while playing and the different character mechanics. I gotta say, the Wizard skill tree looked very good, well balanced and offered many different choices that were all viable. If they can nail that with every character, I will be more than happy to make numerous characters.
When multistrike rune is applied to WhirlWind, I think the Barbarian will spin at a much greater speed. Therefore, each contact will attack twice more than the original whirlwind without runes. So if you used whirlwind on a monster, multistrike rune whirlwind probably means instead of damaging the monster once, you'll hit him twice.
However, this is going to lead to one of those common insane "which" is better arguements that will lead to a lot of calculations. When the game does come out, someone is going to post a barbarian comparison thread, asking whether Power rune or Multistrike rune is better for a Barb. This could also lead to a series of nerfing on certain runes though.
However, if done right, the game will be amazing. If making the game more balance mean certain runes are more effective for certain class, so be it.

Man I'm just thinking how f*cking awsome the barb skills are going to be, I nearly get a hard-on *speaking metaphorically in case some of you were getting excited* But I'm just imagining the possibilities..
Cleave:
Wider Cleave Range. Multiple Cleave Hits, Cleave with Effects such as Critical Strike, Open Wounds, etc. I know those systems maybe won't be in the D3 final version but I'm just stating examples.
Any good power such as Critical Hit, Open Wounds, Stun with maces, + to defense, Evade Melee Attack, damage reduce (since in frenzied ww dance I would take that a raged barb wouldn't feel much stinging hits)
The list could be endless and really interesting

There was a video shown of what it looks like when runes are applied to the Barb's skills.
As for the difference between D2/D3 barbs, they were fairly the same class. Instead of mana however, the D3 barb used "fury", which to be honest I wasnt too sure the exact workings of. It would turn from golden yellow to brown, and when it was yellow that was the actual "fury" you needed to cast spells.
Like I said, its a ton more fast paced than D2, slightly more difficult for the Barb simply because he has to go up to enemies to fight them. I never died in the demo, the closest I came to dying was 1HP on my wizard!
The barb once again had "bash," and this time he even had Hammer of the Ancients after a few levels. I didnt see whirlwind or leap, not sure if they were available.
Sorry if I didnt catch everything, Id love to elaborate more, just give me the signal

How much HP did you have total?
They have said that the dungeons are now, "more random...containing not just different connections, but also different placement of chests etc in rooms..." From my recollection, D2 already did this...did you see any noticeable "improvement" in the randomness of dungeons?
Were the dungeon layouts significantly different? How much did they use elevation differences, since its 3D now?
In the videos I've seen, it doesn't look like theres any music. Mostly all the sound just comes the spells being used by the player. Sounds empty to me. Did you have music playing in the background?
Are you able to rotate and zoom the 3D view, or is it held in a static position/angle above your character?
Did you notice recurring, or completely different, magic item modifiers?
Did you have any TP or ID scrolls? How did you ID items?
What options did townspeople NPC's offer, did they have merchants? Did they sell the same sort of stuff? Did they have a gambling merchant? Did they still have a magic-supply store?
Yes, there was music in the dungeons if recall correctly.
NPCs had the standard options "Talk," "Gossip," and you can talk about your quests. Also, the NPCs respond differently depending on your class. Its a more dynamic conversation than in D2. Unfortunately I didnt see all the NPCs as I was eager to get into the action.
When items drop, their name is already shown, no need to press ALT. After a few seconds, the name disappears, after which you only have to tap ALT once to highlight the names for a few more seconds.
There were identify scrolls, in fact I used pretty much all of them on each playthrough.
The dungeons were completely random as far as I remember..different layouts, different special monsters (like the unique monsters in d2)
You cant rotate the camera, but there was no real reason to do so.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I seem to have clearly heard the OP's of this website state in their Live coverage that there was no towns or the sort in the playable demo. Only the woods of tristram and the cathedral's catacombs.....

@ mattheo majik, I like your ideas about runeskills on the barbarian. Like Ferret I also was wondering how runes would affect the barbarians skills graphically, but you just pointed out that they could just gain different preffixes such as critical strike which wouldn't have to be displayed graphically etc. :)! I was afraid that multistrike on the WW would cause you to make 4 WW's and that probably would screw your fps a bit..
Well, although I only listed a few variants for the skills, I do believe that they could and even SHOULD be visually represented. It's not really that hard to picture. Without having to super twisterize "yeah thats a new word" Whirlwind, they could simply give it a varying color aura (by aura I mean the flash that the weapons and barb create while spinning at high speeds)... They could have the targets spew mass amounts of blood for open wounds and give small and quick(flashes of light) to represent maces contacting and creating the stun effect....Even easier, they could slightly modify the sound of the WW according to what bonuses are added. Higher speed, Stronger Hit, etc. This I blieve would do great in combination with visual graphic representations.
And not going into other skills, I mean anyone could just use a little imagination and come up with retardedly creative stuff. (shit i'm not payed for it and can come up with these, so imagine what Blizz employees can do) haha

Thank you for taking time to explain all this stuff.
By this, do you think the barb was less powerfull then let's say the wizard?
Or simply killed slower due to the fact that he needed to physicly reach the monsters before cutting them to pieces?
Yes, it was simply the fact that the barb had to approach every enemy he wanted to kill, added to the fact that he didn't do quite as much damage as you would expect a barb to do.
With the WD and Wiz, I could easily one-shot certain enemies, while with the Barb it took more time. It could have been because there were more people in the game when I played barb (higher difficulty) but I dont remember to be honest.
when you played as the Wizard, did you find any runes? if you did, and you attached them to a skill, could you then de-attach and re-attach them to another skill?

I played the wizard, and yes, you can, you can swap them out, move them to other skills, rearrange them in any way, any time you want. I got a rune for every spell and then some by the time I was done with the demo--they really wanted us to see the different effects and choices.

That would change a lot of stuff for selling them or giving them to lower level chars. I'm for it.
