Ya... I just have a lot of friends that play... we were hoping to go through the game all eight of us... Damn I thought they were going to boost the player count too... something like 10-12
I seriously doubt that 12 of you would be able to game all at the same time.

It's the decisions you make when you have no time to make them that define who you are.
After some thought, I've concluded that having 4 will be a good thing - 5 may of been better because there are 5 classes but I can live with 4 because of the following reasons:
1) Having 4 players max in a game will reduce lag. It will also encourage team work. I think blizzards main concern is that too many people created locked games which than intern stressed the servers becuase there were too many people in games of 1 or 2 people (1.2 avg). The main focus I believe is that people will have nothing to fear from pvp - meaning you wont be killed if you had no intention to fight - and secondly you will be able to be in a game that is full and still be able to solo. Previously, if a game became maxed out you had a heck of a time soloing the game - this is something I think they want to avoid.
2) Balancing - with the game limited to 4 blizzard can create and environment more tuned for 1 to 4 players. Basically - they can make the game more difficult and that is something we all want. Also, like I stated before - with the game limited to 4 - you can continue to solo any area in the game while the game is maxed out. That would not be the case if you had say a game of 6 or more players - it wouldnt balance out so well. Plus, items can be distributed much more easily from bosses and normal monsters in a 4 player game.
3) Environment - having more than 4 which has been suggested before will cause absolute chaos on the screen. As blizzard has stated they hope to make characters in d3 more powerfull than previous versions. As we have seen its going to have more enemies per area and much more of a blood bath. Having more that 4 would only increase the time inwhich the enemies die - as blizzard has stated they wish to create a fast pace action rpg.
As we all know - enemies grow stronger as each person enters the game.
I say we trust blizzards decision, I think we can all agree that 5 would of been the optimal choice but I'm pretty sure all of us can live with 4. Keep in mind we don't know all of the aspects of the game yet so even though I've listed what I believe is the reasons behind it; I could assure you there is many more reasons we don't even know yet.
As for my other thoughts: I am extremely thrilled to hear that Hardcore setting will be in the game! Eliminating the hardcore setting would of been disasterous to me.

I hope they add something for Iron Mans... Or have tournaments for them that would be sweet.

How is reducing the max player cap to 4 going to reduce server lag from people making games with 1 to 2 players? Instead of trying to carebear everyone, why not simply let the games creator decide the max player cap? All it takes is 1 player to gank you. If they're trying to promote cooperation, making the game easier to solo is a bad idea, no?

/players 8. A high level character in good gear in LoD can solo relatively easy. Balance isn't about the number of monsters on screen, its about how powerful the mobs are. Higher hp, hit harder, etc. I'd rather fight a few moon lords and be in danger than ww through a thousand skeletons without working up a sweat. Slaughter is not epic.
3) Environment - having more than 4 which has been suggested before will cause absolute chaos on the screen. D2 was perfectly paced. And generally even in games where all 8 players were in the same area, NOT all of them were on one person's screen. The main problem is video lag, which again, can be solved by the player with the low end system lowering the max player cap. Also, balance is not hard since in a game like this its simple numerics. As I said above, more enemies does not equal epic, HARDER enemies equals epic.

I say we distrust their decisions. I'm waiting for the announcement that D3 was designed for XBox Live, since it seems that all games in the last five years or so have all been dumbed down for the mass consumer and the apparent idiots with consoles. I'm sick and tired of games being hamstrung in terms of quality because of developers thinking that the average gamer has an IQ of 10.
As for my other thoughts: I am extremely thrilled to hear that Hardcore setting will be in the game! Eliminating the hardcore setting would of been disasterous to me.

Hardcore was the only way I played D2, but it seems like regardless, the game isn't going to live up to the franchise's reputation. Making a WoW knockoff with sub-par graphics combined with a Zelda style healing system is just plain dumb. They should have just updated the graphics, kept all the options in from D2, and released it with a new story and locations. Telling the player they're too dumb to set a text field for player cap to 4 because of their low end system, or that every player is way too asinine to assign their own stat numbers is an insult.
I agree in some respects of what you have stated kaleban.
I think having more than 5 in a game like d3 will cause unwanted results - like balancing issues with monsters as well as items.
However I do agree that many developers are dumbing down there game for carebears as well as for consoles. I dislike consoles and I dislike game companies making games for both genres.
I too only played hardcore setting. It sounds to me we both need a game that challenges us and I strongly feel that having the game capped at 4 will increase that difficulty. It would be easier for blizzard to balance the game for 4 players than it would be for 8 or more.
No matter what they decide to do with d3, I just hope it gets released because as for myself - I find there is no real good game out there - im tired of playing wow because everything requires tons of players and half of them don't know what they heck they are doing. And any fps multiplayer has had so many carebears get involved that they dumbed it down so much that it no longer requires skill but luck.
I too am frustrated but I am very excited about d3 being in development and I cant wait for it to be released.
I guess it was a necessary addition to keep lag down. I don't think they would have done it for no reason.
I would of preferred 6 characters at least but maybe this won't be so bad with the new battle.net chat system. We'll still FEEL more of a community.
I agree, I would have liked to see 6, but I guess this makes more sense. Now that I think about it, my friends and I pretty much had the best times when there was only a few of us.
When I think about it the only time I saw full 8 player games were rushes (lame), baal runs (lamer), and trades.
I wonder how they will keep the trade thing going though.
The game is playable for the first time at Blizzcon, and it's playable in co-op with up to four players. When asked about what the upper limit will be for co-op play, he said that the final number is up in the air but they're currently looking at eight. "We're a little bit worried that if you go up to too many players that you're not really going to be playing together anymore. We want to make sure it's a great co-op experience where you really play with the people you're with, so we've just got to experiment and figure out what the optimal number is."
Perhaps, they should set it up so there's more slots for people in a private game? I mean, having less in an open game makes sense, you don't want 2 friends and 5 retards. But if the limit is higher in private games with your friends with the same goal in your mind before hand than you don't have to worry about people going off on their own.

I don't understand why people want a D2 clone with just updated graphics. When has the diablo franchise ever been known for insanely good graphics? Basically you're saying "focus on pumping up the graphics even more, but don't update the 8-year old gameplay system from D2." I guess gamers in general are moving toward a more shallow mentality when it comes to what the focus of a game should be.
At least make it 5 players per game? There are 5 classes! I hope to see a game where all the different classes would fight bosses tgt with their own unique skills.
well fist off, this isnt final by any means.
my guess is thats it will be changed.
if it stays at 4, i cant express my feeling for it before i play diablo 3 and see how it fitis into the mechanics of the game
I'd rather have 8-12 players in a game and have a cap for party size to 4. This would mean the that the games would have someone else than just you and your friends all the time. Feels like I'm going to play in 4 player private games all the time.
But how often in D2 did you ever have all of the classes in one game? Rarely ever. Ususally there were 3 of one class, 2 of one, and then a couple others...so it's not like it limits anything. If blizzard made it so you had to have 1 of each class in each game, people would just complain that it was starting to feel too much like WoW anyway, lol. WoW usesa system where each group needs speciffic characters or the group cannot function. If blizzard did that to D3, there would just be more endless complaints.

Stay.
You don't always know where you stand,
'Till you know that you won't run away.
There's something inside me that feels...
Like breathing in sulfur.
Well the ability to configure the amount of people available in your room is nice. I forgot whether this feature was in D2.
What I do remember is that the more players in the game the harder it gets. Blizzard should implement a settign which allows you to configurate how many people are allowed in your room, like 3-4, 4-5, 6-7 etc. Once you have these settings and started the game. There will be increased number of mobs, as well as their strengths. If you're a very powerful player, you might be able to solo them, otherwise you'll want to get in a large party.
When you do party with everyone, in say a baal run or cow run. You gotta love all those spells in action. The game is just entirely different when you're on a 8 man party completing a tough mission.
Jesus, I already know of like 20 people who are excited to play D3! How am I gonna play with all of them with 4 people parties?? 6 players is a good compromise, but 4?! I say we pick up the pitchforks and torches and petition!!
