posted a message on Shooting for gold as main currency
I wonder how they will implement gold in a way that'll actually be valuable O_O I certainly don't want gold to be used for repairs and stuff cuz that's lame. That's like in D2 Charsi says, "ok to repair this collossus blade it'll cost ya 3 sojs" I think people just end up bartering items instead.

GOld will definately make trading a lot more convenient but it'll also mean gold farmers who will flood the game economy.

I'm not sure about the first question, but I can confidently say no to the second one. I think as of now the Barb is the only character who can "jump" with his Leap skill. If everyone can jump then that skill would be useless. I think, however, other characters will have their own modes of travelling over obstacle for exmaple the Wizard can teleport.

Yes gold needs to be scarce and we need gold to have more uses. How about repairs, gambling (for potentially good stuff), maybe lodging in the middle of the wilderness, food, water. Yea! There should be food and water items when your off questing in the wilderness or dungeons for a long time!

Whoa whoa stop right there. Lodging? Food? NONONO!! As if repairs aren't bad enough now you want to make us buy food and water?? That would heavily impede on the gaming experience. Say you're in the middle of fighting a boss and then oh crap your character is dying of thirst and you have no choice but to go back and get more. What the crap? That's like getting gaming blueballs!

Gold should only be used for THREE things.
    1) A medium for trading
    2) Gambling cuz it's fun
    3) A death penalty to encourage strategic playing as opposed to reckless button smashing and to act as a "gold sink" to prevent inflation.

Gold was worthless in Diablo 2 because it was so easily obtainable. That's like saying let's use rocks for currency. The only way for gold to be an accepted form of currency is if it's scarce and people want it. I don't like gold as a currency because bartering is more fun. Anyway... Sojs>Gold anyday.

O come on dude, what kind of content would they add to Diablo 3 that would require a monthly fee?? Expansions are another story, we pay once to buy them. The only fee that people might have to pay is for some features that will be in the new battle.net, thats it!
Paying to play in co-op mode with 3 other people is a rip off. Think of it as Diablo 2 with way better graphics, differnt classes( some), different story.. Nothing really changed in terms of playing online: Co-op mode with even less people, maybe its for the better, and chat and stuff like that.

By your logic, why pay $50 for Mario Galaxy? You can just go to the Wii store and get good ol' Mario World for $5 bucks! Mario Galaxy is really no different then the nes version except for the better graphics and slightly different story right? Shoot, why play any new video game at all?? It's all just better graphics and different stories O_O

    Tons of things have changed.

IMO: The question is really just one of morality. If they choose to make the whole game pay 2 play, they will make millions of dollars more, yet ALOT of their fanbase will be mad, even many of those who still buy it.

But if they dont make it pay 2 play, many fans will be happy and remain loyal fans of the company wich may bo good for the long term.

IMO its almost like elastic and inelastic goods (for those of you who had to take economics in high school). Just like raising gas prices, even though they are out of controll people still need gasoline. But if prices get unspeakably rediculous (like idk... $1000 per gallon, rediculous but you get my point) people will be forced to find any extreme alternative, but otherwise they will just deal with the regular crazy and not unspeakable prices.

MORPG's are seen by video game companies as THE best way to bring in money. (Thats what I heard from my uncle who works for EA) Instead of being a one-shot gamble of $50, there is a steady flow of monthly or weekly profits that continues and perpetuates itself. Thats the incentive behind giving out free one month WOW demos, even though youll think, I'll just play one month and get tired of it, you play and get hooked, and theres the trap. The whole idea is that if they can make that big step and get you hooked, they can count on you to provide a steady flow of money for a good amount of time.

We just gotta hope that Blizzard makes the game available for people who just want to pay once and keep playing without worrying about monthly subscriptions.

People have the misconception that the game itself will be P2P. There will be a single player mode and that's obviously free. However, if you wanted to play online the you may have to pay.

I'm just gonna play the devil's advocate here. I think a lot of people are feeling betrayed by Blizzard cuz they think they're selling them out, but let's see what this fee actually does. The fee go towards security, additional content, etc. that will improve the quality of the game. Otherwise, there will be hackers, botters, and dupers just like in D2. Then EVEN MORE fans will be outraged and will demand Blizzard to fix it. Well, with what? Blizzard isn't gonna pull money out of their pockets to fix these problems!

So hackers will run wild making the game unfair, botters will be filthy rich, and dupers will cause MASSIVE inflation! Alas, the world of Sanctuary will crumble, not at the hands of Diablo nor any of the other Prime Evils, but at the hands of you CHEAP BASTARDS!!! That's right! Let the guilt seep into your corrupted soul and slowly eat you alive! May you have pleasant dreams of roaming the dark dungeons of Diablo 3 and then find yourself waking up to Maplestory!! May god have mercy on your soul... But seriously though it's just 50 cents a day. Just get a part-time job. If you're not old enough to get a job, then you're probably not old enough to play Diablo 3.

posted a message on Pay to Play D3?
I wouldn't mind paying cuz it's worth it. Shoot, back in the old days two rounds of Street Fighter 2 at the arcade already cost more than it would to play Diablo 3 for a day(for those of you don't like math lemme explain, $15/mo=50cents/day). And we all know nobody plays just TWO rounds of SF2! So $15/mo? That's like giving up a piece of candy everyday to play an awesome game.

Let's face it, the $15 doesn't just go towards letting you play online. There'll obviously be more services like SECURITY. Unless you like a game with hacking, duping, and botting. In any case, this is just my opinion. It really doesn't affect me if you play or not, but while you choose to save your money me and my buddies will be enjoying an awesome hack-free game. And they said money can't buy happiness

I think every set should have their own unique "effect". I like how Trang's set turned you into a vampire. Hope they put in some more stuff like that. Wouldn't it be awesome if on holidays like x-mas they have the monsters drop holiday set items that turn you into a demon santa?
