Hmmm, more than 5 classes!, now that would be awesome, frankly I have trouble to imagine how they would keep diversity with only 5 classes. 7 would be great.
So here are what I would like,
Barbarian
Witch Doctor (some sort of replacement replacement for the druid)
Necromencer
Some sort of new mage class
Dark Knight (Replacement for the Pal)
Some kind of ranged class
Something to replace the Assassin and who has the ability to morph into a demon
EDIT: I don't think the druid will come back at least not like he was in D2 since Scosglen is now a giant desert.
I personally think they'll still have a Necromancer. In Diablo 2, there were two summoning classes. The druid and necromancer. I think the Witch Doctor takes up the druid, as it's more shamanistic, while the necromancer is more bone/curses/poisons. Like when the Witch Doc conjured up that mongrel thing...definitely not very Necro-mantic. So I think (and hope) that they'll bring back the Necro. Also, I wouldn't be surprised to see a priest, or full healer-type class, as they're are making character rely more on heals than potions now. Plus, there's always an expansion with two more classes. =P

The Vampire Lives Eternally. It Was Promised Eternal Death.
Im really hoping for a return of a necro, although im trying not to get my hopes up. What i'm really wondering though, is where everyone got the "there will be 5 classes at release" thing. Was this officially confirmed somewhere?

Forget about it, this isn't a mmo. Blizz won't make a class that can't handle single player.
1)
Barbarian looks like he's going to be a shitload of fun, leaping and charging around. Charge and shouts will probably replace D2's paladin.
2)
Witch Doctor also has fire and ice, which makes him a bit like the sorceress/druid/necromancer mix, which is a lot.
3)
I think they've got to have a more mainstream magic caster than the Witch Doctor, so a sorcerer/elementalist seems pretty likely.
4)
Someone who is proficient with a bow is a must-have. In D2 that was the amazon, but now that we've got female barbarians, I think the amazon isn't as likely as a new archer/assassin/thief mix. (the rogue in D1 was basically just an a bow/knife wielder)
5)
That would leave one class left. Maybe...
A more healing oriented paladin (I'm hoping for something weirder)
A druid/hunter mix (only problem is this would be a bit like an Anti-Witch Doctor - but I'd love to play as a Werewolf again, or to be able to summon puppies to horribly maul my enemies)
A demon and curse oriented Necromancer (Necro of course kicks ass, and I think they could make the class sufficiently different from the Witch Doctor)
However, my bet goes to this:
A class that uses powers directly from demons and angels, and can even summon lesser demons and angels (I think this class would have a lot of potential - summon lightning from heavens, summon zergling like demons from the earth, and transform himself into a powerful being, Illidan style)

Ranger - Ranged Weapon Mastery (fire a bow or javelins like a machine gun!), Traps (MK style!), Pets (lions, tigers, and bears oh my!) - physical damage based
Demonologist - Bone Spells (Necro style!), Avatar (shapeshift into a demon!), Furies (evil spirits that hang around you, giving party bonuses) - mix of physical damage and magic
LEAP ATTACK!!!!! PLAGUE OF TOADS!!!!!
SLOW TIME!!!!!
1) A Shapeshifter. Worked well with the druid in d2, and has been explored in wow. While they could bring the druid back for this position, I think it more likely we'll have some sort of Demonologist class that changes form into various demons. Class may also be a hybrid spellcaster, would likely have frost as a key element, considering witch doctor gets fire/disease.
2) A ranged character. I'm thinking something along the lines of combining the bow/javazon with trap assassin. Lots of lightning element perhaps, such as a variant of the lightning fury ability of the javazon?
3) Either bringing back the Paladin, or creating a new priestly/crusader type hero, once again using auras. Probably make the hero a bit more of a caster this time around, melee/caster hybrid?
jeez why is everyone hating on the good ol' druid, it was my favorite class.. only thing it lacked was good hell difficulty fighting abilities. i could see every class making a comeback, aswell as some new ones like the witch doctor, which btw we don't know if he summons undead, i saw the female witch doctor bringing up a elemental pet and that wall of undead is just a wall, much like the bone wall the necro casted only it can attack. what im saying is what we saw in the gameplay footage in my opinion was high levels demonstrating just mainly lower level abilities.
by the way the game looks like its using the SC2 Engine and it looks really awesome, already canceled my AoC account hahaha.

I liked the druid too.
I really hope there's either a druid style wolf/bear shapeshifter, or a demon shapeshifter, like Illidan in W3.
I'm upset by almost everybody automatically assuming that there's going to be a paladin.

1. Barbarian: close combat killing machine; weapon-master.
2. Witch Doctor: dark arts specialist; creature summoning.
3. Sanctuary knight: heavenly force user; shiled-master.
4. Rogue: ranged fighter; trap making.
5. Sorceror: magic caster; all-round spellman.
6. Beastmistress: nature-magic user; animal and spirit summoning.
When you finish the game in nightmare you gain 2 new classes to choose from:
1. Demon: dark side avatar of death.
2. Angel: light side avatar of death.

lol it can still easily be a ranger since who said you cant shoot arrows at melee distance xD

The Barbarian is from Arreat, a very cold snowy mountain top, but they are much tougher than normal humans, so they don't need warmth.

Where are Barbarians originally from? Sumeria, or more specifically Mesopotamia, AKA Europe. Think the Alps and the Pyrenees

The witchdoctor takes up the druid.
Whats left cud be the Sorc, and some kind of ranger. Then theres 1 left. possibly a new kind of class?
There was one in Diablo I.
It's the decisions you make when you have no time to make them that define who you are.
