I have attempted Ghom a few times now, but I have not been able to take him down due to his gas clouds. My build I'm using for Ghom and my current stats are can be seen in the attached files. Any advice on how to take this guy down would be very appreciated
edit: The dps shown on the stats is without Sharpshooter. With Sharpshooter it is around 86k.
It took me a few tries on Ghom post patch, but I have it down now. I'm about to head to work, so I'll just give a quick breakdown of skills and stats.
1. 102k Damage with SS
2. Full set of Nats, digger pants, high dex rare gloves and shoulders
3. 1110 Damage 2 hand bow.
4. Skills: Caltrops (Tortorous), Preparation (Backup), Smoke Screen (lingering), Mark of Death (whatever one generates hatred), Elemental Arrow (Ice), Hungering Arrow (Devour). Archery, SS, Precision.
The biggest issue in the fight is the clouds of noxious gas and your attempt to keep them from spreading everywhere. I did this by moving in a counterclockwise circle around the room, dropping caltrops to slow Ghom, and hammering away from him just outside of each new cloud he drops. The caltrops also had the added benefit of stopping his little slime balls in place and Elemental Arrow Frost would often hit on its AOE and kill them. If you time things right the clouds will start to evaporate just as you make your first full 360 revolution around the room.
I hit smoke screen whenever I start to run out of room or in emergency situations.
I can't tell your xbow stats, but I would look to upgrade it to something in the realm of 1k damage. You can find some of the lower end 1k+ damage weapons for a decent price on gold or RMAH (if you have that option).
Easiest, fastest, known possible way to do it with "ok" gear is this spec.
Cluster Arrow/Cluster bombs
Hungering Arrow/Dev Arrow
Caltrops/Torturuos Ground
Marked for Death/Mortal Enemy
Bat companion
Prep/Battle Scars
For passives go as following
Cull of the weak
SS
Archery
Idea behind this at least have 35k DPS+ without sharpshooter.
Pop bat companion, start fight, mark him with death. Run straight at him, go to left, place down 2 traps, nuke him with all hatred, move to left wall while stutter stepping to regain full hatred, then repeat the step before. Kite him using traps, while using your primary nuke(cluster bomb). Kite him counter clock wise hugging the wall, laying down traps as you go.
IMPORTANT - Never let marked for death drop, and always have traps down for his path of travel.
The traps will easily kill the adds, as well as dmg the boss, and keep him slowed. Cluster bombs, while you might need some practice at first using them, drop his health a SHIT TON.
You can kill him easily within 30 secs to a minute using this spec.
Note: I did not use shadow power or smoke screen. The idea behind the build is kill him before you run out of room because of gas. Thats why I used battle scares for prep, it gives you an "o shit button" when your health is low.
It doesn't hurt to get an amulet with like 300+ life on hit either.
If you have any questions PM me on here or in game ixir#1276
PS this spec also kills the second boss in Act 4 inferno in like 15 secs.
Thanks for all the replies guys Unfortunately I still haven't been able to down him, but I have gotten very close calls.. I guess I need to get better gear before I'll be able to down him..
I was stuck same as OP on Ghom till I gave up and decided to tank him. I used
Grenades / Gas Grenades
Chakram / Shuriken Cloud
Shadow Power / Gloom (although I never had to use it during the fight)
Caltrops / Jagged Spikes
Sentry / Guardian Turret
Preparation / Backup Plan (didn't need to use this one during the fight either)
Passives: Custom Engineering, Numbing Traps, Cull the Weak (You can switch the last one with Night Stalker for more Gloom uptime);
My gear is far from being the best. For the fight I just switched out my bow and quiver for a handbow + shield. When I did the kill I had around 1300 life on hit, 35k life, 4k armor and around 550 all res.All the tactics you need is stay in his face in one spot and re-apply your Caltrops..
I'm sitting on an old computer, and it stalls when entering heavily graphical sites (such as battle.net).. so, no links, sorry. Anyway, I'm below 10 post, so that wouldn't be possible.
How I did it.
~300 Poisonresist; 200 allresist (physical etc.).
~25-30k hp. (Life% helps alot vs. pure Vita)
2x 1h Crosbow with ~7-800 Life On Hit EACH. (Dual Wield)
(Ignore weapon dps. I used 487 and 502 dps(!)). Cheap weapons for about 50k each; one had Int, the other had vitality)
Enchantress follower (with charm/armor/pool of purple stuff/attackspeed).
Keys:
1: Caltrops (any version. I started with tortorus ground the first time; and are currently using the last in the line (cant remember name right now, but gives +10crit for standing in the trap)).
2: Shadow Power (gloom).
3: Preperation (...The one that slowly ticks your dicipline back up).
4: Sentry Turret (Guardian Turret).
M1: Grenades (Gas Grenades).
M2: Any. Chakrams (shuriken) / Ele arrow... Doesnt really matter. You won't be using it.
Custom Engineering; Nightstalker(random of your choice); Numbing Traps.
Run in his face and place yourself just next to the coloumn on the right side. Place your turret and a Caltrop. Target him and start casting grenades. His first few hits will hit you very hard, so be ready with Shadow Power.
Keep counting to yourself to 3, then place a new caltrop. Over and over. Only use grenades. You'll likely hear your DH saying "I need healing" -cryouts, but don't worry.
When his blobs spawn, your Life on Hit will gain the bonus from both Ghom and blobs.
- I personally tried with Stun Grenades in this fight, also later on with higher LoH and Resist... Didn't work. Only Gas grenades. (I assume the ticks from Gas works with LoH).
You can easily feel if you've forgotten to place the caltrops. At some point during the fight, you'll need to replace the turret... Do so, if you feel you have enough dicipline for it; else pop the preperation and use it there.
*Edit: With your stats... Just get two 1h crosbows and the above talents... You should be fine this way)*
--- This is how I did it. I had 0 NV buffs the first time, as I ... Like you, just hit a wall and tried almost everything.
Oddly enough, this works. Low resist, but somewhat higher life-pool than normally; ~8k dps(!); ~1700 Life On Hit.
Hope you'll try this.
This is pretty much the build I just tried and after a couple of tries I finally got him down! Thanks a lot for the help everyone I'll finally be able to get some more progress in now haha
Unless you have the reflexes of a 15 year old you can't do this fight. At least after 5 full repairs, that's the conclusion I've drawn.
Blizzard's goal is to require the penultimate gear to do acts 3-4, and to do that you have to spend money on the RMAH. If you don't, well, you're using their server and bandwidth without paying them via their RMAH cut, so they'd rather you just quit.

How about you get off your soapbox and actually read the thread. The guy just above you posted a very practical way of doing this fight.
I tried him about 20 times the other night, trying out all but the last LoH strat, where you tank 'n spank him. Here are my stats:
21k dps
300-350 all resist
48k hp
24% crit
Here's the thing - I haven't used the AH (any form) since I got to Inferno. I realize that I could go buy 2x 1h w/ LoH and probably do it, but I'm looking for alternate suggestions. If I try to spread the poison slowly, his minions eat me alive (my low dps means I don't kill them quickly enough). I guess I can keep farming 'til I find an xbow with LoH...

I tried that strat and about a dozen others I read about here and elsewhere. I finally got him by just getting lucky with a lot of critting, using impale + chem burn for dps and fan of knives on the small blobs. That's at 65k damage, no SS. It's a bullshit gearcheck fight to make sure you're using the RMAH or willing to spend hours dying to the same thing.

People are killing him with 40k dps and yet you're having a hard time with 65k dps. Glad to hear that that's the RMAH's fault.

Was stuck on Ghom for ever so I skipped him and cleared up to diablo. Just read this post and 5 mins later Ghom is dead... Thank you very much. I have tried so many other strats and specs. This one was by far the best.
More like: you drive to work but still get there later than the people who bike to work, so naturally you rage at bicycle shops.
I'LL PUT THEM ALL OUT OF BUSINESS, I SWEAR IT!!! >_< DAMN LANCE ARMSTRONG AND HIS INFLUENCE!!!
No seriously though. Everyone knows Siegebreaker is the primo farm spot in the game. It's not at all surprising that they turned the fight right before it into a major cockblock in 1.03 (last patch). This encourages people to use the RMAH, because if you're a Blizzard exec, 10 Ferraris just isn't enough - they have to make more money for that F50 they've always wanted... and hey, maybe a foray into the world of Lamborghinis!
You're probably young & naive, and don't understand just how cutthroat the business world is. You think it's an absurd notion that businesses would act this way, but the reality is it's just another day for them. In the top tiers of the business world, you'd either cut your mother's throat for $5, or you'd be looking for a job because someone else who would gladly do it just took yours.

Except that why bother using the RMAH. Most people who gets to inferno ghom are clever enough to realise that they can pay someone else to kill him for them for 100K or so.

It's only 7.5M million HP, not 75M :<. You've got a zero too much when you speak about how much dmg you need to do.
