Well, my point is, this is not that easy to tell. Haven't seen any studies, good tests with loads of data proving what you say.
There are for sure certain dps breakpoints that allow higher mp. Check out 740k dps archon wizard and how fast can he do mp10. I'm pretty sure he wouldn't need to lower it to mp3 to be most efficient. It is generalization to say for example mp3 is max for best possible gear to be efficient. It isn't.

People forget about trash. Whether I'm on MP 1 or 6, it dies in a few casts, but it drops a lot more loot and gives a lot more exp on MP 6. And most elite packs aren't too bad, although reflect and extra health are a bitch, and they seem to become more common as MP level goes up. Also, the faster you kill trash, the more you are bottlenecked by your runspeed, which can't go past 25%.

With that being said, you're absolutely right, this is my supposition, and not supported by any hard data. I plan to take some data this coming week in regards to act and MP as they relate to loot and exp, and post my results to the general forum.

I dunno why I kept killing them. It was pretty annoying and frustrating to chase them across half the map. With the slow casting of my main damage spell, most casts would miss as they ran and ran and ran and ran and ran and ran and ran and ran and ran and ran away from me.

I finally questioned why I was doing it and, lacking any good answer, stopped. I'm much less frustrated now, and I complete my exp runs in as little as half the time. The AI on some monsters in this game really needs to be reworked IMO.

The monk you linked has extremely low dps. In one hour of play, I would likely kill 10 times as many monsters as you at a given MP, giving me 10 times the chances of getting a legendary.

If you want legendaries, gear up a character to 100k+ damage. Go on that character's class forum here and learn the best spec(s) for killing quickly.

Your int and crit are a bit low relative to your crit damage, so bumping them would be great. Your left ring and helm are prime slots to get some crit, but a decent zuni helm with crit isn't cheap.

There's no set amount of resists to have, but I think 700 unbuffed seems like a good and attainable number to shoot for.

My only other comment on your gear is that as you gear up you'll find that leech returns all the health you need, allowing you to ignore LoH in other slots which makes other gear easier to find and afford. You don't have much LoH and you have no leech so I'd suggest looking into a weapon with leech, even if it's just something cheap and temporary, to swap in for difficult situations.

What's best for offense, or for that matter, defense, depends on your current gear. Int isn't necessarily #1, you want a good blend of all stats since they multiply off each other.

A notable exception is attack speed. Most higher end WDs are using bears, and mana is always an issue with bears, so attack speed will just make you run out of mana faster. It will inflate the "damage" number in your character screen, but epeen size doesn't matter.

@ OP: Figure out which playstyle you like most and pick that class. Blizzard will always be tweaking stuff so I wouldn't worry about any weaknesses of your choice.

posted a message on How to deal with reflect damage at mp6+?
    Quote from carlucio

With my perma bears+ BBV+ Mass confusion build there is no way to not take huge damage from reflect, i just got used to dying a few times to this kind of elites.

Try horrify with the frightening aspect rune. 3 seconds of bears during SW, 8 seconds during your double armor buff then you just chill for 5 seconds while SW comes off cooldown. With some leech I'm killing reflect no problem.

You should definitely get some leech. Once you're closing in on 100k dps and beyond, leech gets pretty good and you don't have to worry about loh. Socketed Manajuma's are coming down in price. I was playing without leech or loh just fine in 1.04, but it wasn't working out as well in 1.05. Once I got leech I became much more effective.

If you raised your crit chance a bit you could probably boost yourself over 100k. Your zuni helm is rolled pretty bad, you should look for one with 200+ int and crit. Lacuni bracers with int and crit are expensive, I was fortunate to have mine drop for me. You can pick up a witching hour belt as well.

"I never even made it to level 60"

IMO that's the problem. Leveling up in D2 was fun, in D3 it's a horrible chore. The game's much better at 60 than below.

You might be able to squeak by on mp3 just changing your build. Whether it's efficient for you is another question though. Try switching passives to jungle fort, grave injustice and gruesome feast. Switch acid cloud for soul harvest, I like the soul to waste rune on that.

So even though bears does poison damage, if I get lightning or fire damage on a stone of jordan it will increase my bears damage by the same amount?

posted a message on Quick question about +poison damage
I currently have poison damage on my zumi's boots and a stone of jordan. I'm looking at buying a new stone of jordan for higher % dmg to elites, and I'm not quite sure how this all works - it's a little confusing.

I know that these modifiers only modify the "black" (non-elemental) portion of your weapon's damage. But I've read that they add their % to the damage as whatever element they are. For example: You do 100 damage wearing 7% zumi's boots. You hit for 100 damgae + 7 poison damage.

So my question basically, is do I have to look specifically for poison damage on the stone of jordan, or will any damage type work? My primary is bears, if that matters.

posted a message on 40-50M budget - what would you upgrade?
When buying a weapon, keep in mind that the +poison damage on your zumi boots and stone of jordan, as well as a tal rasha's amulet if you ever get one, only apply to the portion of a weapon's damage that isn't elemental. Meaning you want a weapon with % damage in addition to min-max damage - not poison damage, or fire damage, arcane damage, etc. As such my above suggestion of manajuma's knife is kinda weak since it has poison damage.

And I can't stress enough the importance of leech. Probably 50% of elite packs have reflect damage, and even with leech you have to be extremely careful - but without it you're really screwed at higher MP levels. I suspect this is a bug/oversight and will be adjusted though, so now might not be the best time to buy a weapon. I'm pretty sure blizzard doesn't actually think we all *must* have leech on our weapons, they keep giving lip service about wanting us to have options...

I still recommend the zumi set as a priority because the 4pc bonuses are very good. Look for decently rolled pieces, since prices are really coming down now that this stuff drops like candy.
