Have the closest thing I can find to a confirmation that Spectral Blade is a melee attack for all intents and purposes.
At around 38 minutes you can see him equip Spectral Blade. It replaces Wand Attack in the Left Mouse slot. If you notice, every other skill the Wizard chooses goes to the Action Bar.

Aren't you able to set any ability to the left mouse button? I have seen many wizard beta playthroughs that set Magic Missle to left-click. I am pretty sure the ability being set there is no indication of a particular attack type, sorry.
In my opinion the better evidence to this is that it deals damage based on you're weapon, and by lvl 19 (I believe) is free to cast. these two put together mean that it is the physical attack replacement for the wizard in my eyes, more than what happens to it in the UI when it is selected.

If that made sense to you, Bravo! I think I even confused myself...
D2 had immunities in Hell mode, multiple immunities for special mobs... I can only imagine the hoops we will jump through in Inferno to deal any damage at all to those monsters
It never ceases to surprise me that people still aren't aware there are no immunities in D3.
It's been posted on this section of the forums alone at least 10 times.
I heard they weren't going to have monsters immune to more than one thing, but I never heard that they were taking immunities out altogether. Is there anything replacing it or are they just going to have high resistance?
It's slightly outside of melee range. But you need to itemize to use spectral blade as well. That is a move I wouldn't be surprised to see Great Sword Wizards running around spamming. It does 30% weapon damage 3 times per cast. With a little dinky wand the normal attack might do more damage tbh lol.

I think the Spectral Blade will also hit multiple enemies, so that is a plus. Also, you can't rune your basic wand attack to do some of the crazy things that SB can.

If you are talking about Magic Weapon... Magic weapon does not proc on SB and it also does not proc with wand attacks. In order for MW to proc, you need to use a melee weapon and hit with melee attack.
I'd be careful stating it as a fact since it has yet to be tested, which we can't in the current beta. Except the wand attack ofc, that is a given.
This should be pretty easy to test. Grab a melee weapon that has a magic damage proc on it. Then use spectral blades. If spectral blades deals the bonus magic damage, then it counts as using your melee attack. I've tested this on the DH and none of her abilities count as "normal attacks" which is disappointing.
I would hope that spectral blades would be different as the synergy with MW looks cool.
For all the people out there saying SB does not work with MW your wrong since it does and has been proven with people who have beta keys maybe read around the forums abit and realise that it does proc... since SB is based on your weapon damage% and MW enhances your Weapon damage% there for making your SB hit harder since its going off your Weapon damage%.. thank you enough said please stop saying that they dont work together, it would be pointless if they didnt because it would make SB obsolete and pathetic really..

Basically there won't be a need to use normal attacks when you have a special attack that counts as melee.

This will be just like Bash. Spectral Blade is a replacement for melee attacks period.
Just because it is the main attack, doesn't mean it is melee. Think about the Demon Hunter. Does a bow attack now count as melee?
Edit: I'd also assume that all of the signature spells would go directly to the main attack when assigned.
Someone go test this out!
Magic Missile, Shock Pulse, and Electrocute go to right click by default. Spectral Blade goes to left click by default.

Given the open skill system, I don't see why they don't keep at least single immunities.
