It's interesting to see that so far most everyone so far is doing something with computer science or medical/biology. I'm working on a BBA in Marketing and a BA in Communication with a minor in graphic design.

Not too surprising really. It takes a certain level of nerdiness to regularly post on a forum of this type (myself included). And it's this same characterstic that attracts people to these fields.

AMEN.
its not so hard to believe that people that go on this website either on a daily, or weekly basis to check up on information about a game that could be released in possibly 2 years would go into a hardcore science, computer or art classes. Like Asynchronic said it takes special types of nerds.. (Future Computer Science student)
The fact that a release date wasn't announced, and we are on this website is even worse...

I suppose you are right, the grass is always greener...and I can still do the artistic stuff on the side.
I think the same problems apply to any field/job. In theory the work is intersting, but when it comes to the day to day stuff it almost always seems tedious and stressful.
Thanks Blood-doll.
No matter what job you do, there are always tedious things you'll be forced to do. Also the fact is, that today a bachelors degree is in a way required to get a decent job.
Now, many more people get educations, and people with better education will probably get the good jobs.

im not really considering marine bio because...well theres not many jobs there.
im only doing bio because im crap at math...i got a D in calculus...:(
but i got an A in calc based physics...so beats meeee...:P
but OMG...someone help me with organic chem!!! i hate lab reports ugh!!! and i hate NMR!!!! do u other bio majors doing that now? its awful!!!! and so is Mass Spec.
and then i gotta do biochem!!! its the krebs cycle with structures and mechs!!! ahhhh!!!
bio majors ftw...why do we do it...:(
(ive also strongly been interested in journalism since i cant seem to get below an A no matter how little i try on my papers...so i think i might be able to write...but...ugh...nvm)

And I'd help with organic chem, bt by the loks of it you're in university? If thats the case I can't, because that stuff isn't what I've been taught at the moment, as we haven't even talked about Mass Spec's lol.
In biology class though, which I have this semester, thank god I'm done metabolic processes. Ugh, Krebs cycle, photosystems, so much stuff to know, it was stupidly ridiculous. I got an 84 though at the end of that unit, bahaha. Evolution was an easy unit, but my mark went down to80, don't know what happened, I think the Metabolic processes unit test brought my mark down, so scratch that 84 and make it a 78 or something. We're doing Molecular Genetics now, yay -_-.
My chem teacher told me to take a comuter sciences course as m elective or smething in my second year, because that stuff would apparently also apply to the Neurosciences. Bah, I suck at computer classes. =/

And im sure the way they try to teach us "math" at school has no practical use in programing or even Computer Science, or any other job except math teacher. LOL
And is there actually a reason to learn Java if youre not going to use it much? I mean, i guess its been used for web applications and such? In that case, someone who wants to program games would be better off learning just its basics and spending more time on C++, right?
From what ive heard, the more languages you learn, the better. But other than those which you are going to use in your specific projects, you shouldnt waste time with the details of those languages but rather learn the "ideas" behind them which will make you a better programmer in general.
I'm not in university yet, but just from common sense, I think it is best to learn all those main programming languages, Java, C++, python (if wanted), C, etc.
C, C#, and C++ are supposed to be closely related with syntax, I only learned basics in C# which should be the easiest. But I was told that once you understand it in C#, C++ is easy.
If I am correct, most major programs use more than one programming language, so it would be best to learn as many as possible, understanding the idea behind them being the major thing to understand. But that language is useless if you can't use it to write a program. You should learn whatever you can, that's what I'm doing..
How many years would it take to get a Ph.D in Computer Science? In UCF there is a 5 year accelerated Masters program, which I might take; I'm not sure if I'm willing to go as far as a Ph.D though. It all depends if Computer Science is REALLY for me..

Last class on Wednesday, we spent virtually the entire time talking about the Bayer Plant that's near the school. Specifically, we were talking about the MIC that's stored there. There was an explosion at the plant in August, and what the company didn't tell anyone (which they're getting their ass handed to them by the govt. for) was that the explosion was only 50 ft away from the MIC tank. The tank that exploded shot upwards in the air, if it had exploded horizontally, it would've been disastrous. And even when all the emergency response personnel were there, they didn't even tell them of the potential danger, they didn't tell the public of the potential danger, and they never even checked the storage tanks for hull breaches.
Then we started talking about how besides here, the only other place that MIC is stored was Bhopal. There, the tanks ruptured and the gasses got release. It killed something like 20,000 people. Thousands in the immediate release, and thousands more after a few weeks because of the effects.
So yeah, once I get my degree I'm GTFO of this area. Southern PA sounds good.
im about to do a bio lab final and lecture exam...in like an hour.
funny thing, you know how you dont pour chemicals, especially hydrocarbons, down the sink? i always put them down the sink. i wouldnt be surprised if the NSC labs blew up one day...:P

Lmao, nice. At least we know who to blame once the labs explode.
omg we have two main lab halls, the NSC and one called Kell Hall.
kell hall looks like a meth lab, or like a dungeon or something. its all dark, you can see all the pipes and stuff...its rusty and the desks and metals are all corroded and grimey...scary place. and to top it off, the numbers of the rooms are out of order...youll be on the 5th floor and see room 576...walk down and see room 504....walk some more and youll end up seeing room 623...wtf? 623 on floor 5? its weird. my orgolab prof office is in there and i took like 45 mins trying to find it. ugh.

I hate Chemistry though...yuck!

There is not so much math in it. in 5 years you have maybe 5-6 math related subjects. I mostly want to study programming.
Have you done any programming? If so, with what language(s)?
