Well when I made that post I was thinking more towards streamlined end game pvp builds as that's just my thing. My first impression of the witch doctor is that it's similar to the warlock in wow if not the necromancer in d2, in that it has dots, one of which iirc siphons life and can kind of phase out to another location to survive, along with but not limited to a few choices in pets.
You're right though I need to play the game and feel them all out, and luckily due to this sick ongoing contest I'm now able to.
as ive said on like 5 other threads the Witch Doctor will easily be the best class overall. he has insane PVE and PVP capabilities. he has THE most CC / defensive spells in the game out of all 5 classes and still has awesome damage capabilites. lower damage than the wizard but WAYYYY higher defensive capabilities which will be key in surviving in inferno.
I think the monk is being overhyped, but we'll see. Personally I've basically already played every class in the game by having played other games (and previous diablo titles), so I know they will all feel great and work in a unique way, though I expect there to be more barbs and wizards than anything.
I'm completely not being a dick, but I can tell you right meow that the classes in D3 do NOT feel like any other classes I've played before. MAYBE the barb + wiz, but even then it's different than you'd think =D
same. the WD feels so different then anything. its a combination of a summoning druid fire druid and poison necro all in one at the same time.and the demon hunter is like the assassin and amazon mixed as well. they may feel SIMILAR to other classes but they are definitely unique
Definitely going to try a Witch Doctor probably sounds cool.
I'm not even sure why we need a thread for this, it's clearly the Barbarian. 'nuff said.

You think barb will be the strongest class? Based off my experience in World of Warcraft melee classes lack mobility. Because of this they have more down-time than a ranged class doing less damage. Also you will have to fight mobs face to face when ranged can kite.

Ah but you see, it is my own personal opinion! what we know opposed to what we wish are very different things!
Also I'm not quite sure what melee class you played in World of Warcraft but the Warrior (assuming that the Warrior is the closest linked to the Barbarian) had some of the most mobility amongst most of the classes.
When I played my Warrior in PvP and Arena closing the gap against ranged classes was one of the most easiest things you could do (Frost Mages were a bit harder). Other melee classes such as Death Knights had Death Grip and silences, as well as their ghoul to stun, Enhance Shamans had Wind Shear and Earth root totem, as well as ghost wolf and Spirit Wolves to stun, in turn allowing them to also close the gap. Last but not least, Rogues, with their ability to Stealth, Cloak of Shadows and Vanish, also allowing them to close the gap while stealth, also with the assistance of crippling poison, and Shadowstep (depending on spec). So please go on about your arguement about how melee classes in World of Warcraft (assuming that blizzard will for some reason make them similar to the Barbarian and Monk in relation to "lack of mobility") lack mobility.
It is true that ranged classes will have a slight advantage over surviving a horde of demons, but then I guess it comes down to how well you know your class and how to use it.

Well in World of Warcraft, for PVE when melee classes have to move to avoid anything that makes then ranged of the boss that would be downtime in their DPS rotation. Even though a ranged DPS may have to avoid the same mechanic, they may be able to use instant cast ranged spells while moving.
Hunter - auto shot + half their abilities
Mage - fire can scorch / frost can ice lance
Druid - balance can moonfire
Warlock - can put up some Dots while moving
Shaman - elemental can use spiritwalkers grace
So certain boss fights can allow ranged DPS to easily surpass melee DPS simply because they can always attack the boss even while avoiding mechanics / adds. In PVP there is a lot of abilities that allow melee classes to catch up to and snare ranged classes but they all have cooldowns. I can't count how many times hunters have kited my rogue and there is nothing I can do about it. Im not bad at PVP or anything there is only so much catching up I can do before everything is on cooldown and I'm stuck getting kited till I die. I have no idea what Diablo 3 PVE or PVP will be like though, my thoughts on what they can do to stop this is buff melee damage and health but then they would be overpowered so I'm not too sure.

I agree completely with what you say about ranged having an advantage over melee when it comes to what you mentioned. But lets leave WoW with WoW, I don't like comparing WoW with Diablo even though the same company made them and maybe Diablo inherited some of the smart ideas from WoW.
I also have no idea what PVE or PVP will be like in Diablo 3 so I guess we'll just have to trust blizzard when it comes to balancing the classes when it comes to this type of thing. Though I do know that the Barbarian has several skills that lower damage taken by a certain percent, not too sure about the monk though. guess we'll have to wait and see.
I said WoW alot lol

I think a lot of it is based on your playstyle, so for me its the monk. Its abilities and combat type fit my playstyle so I feel I'll be the most effective with that class.
I'd be guessing the barbarian. Some of his passives look to be pretty useful for tanking up.
Best for killing speed?
The wizard looks to be the king here though without playing the game (NO BETA ) I can only speculate from youtube vids.
Best for being able to handle any situation of mob types?
I like the witch doctor for this with his utility type spells and summons.
As for what I think my favourite character will be I think it's got to be the Barbarian. Cool armor/weapons and "whirlwind" and great survivability. To each his own.
First off, I know I’m late to reply. Secondly, I’m not addressing any PvP aspect because the game will be changed before we get to smash each other, sadly. Thirdly, this is my opinion after the playing the beta and reading multiple posts from blizzard (and gamers) which fanned my increasing hunger for this game.
So with that being said, I believe the barbarian will be the first class to be able to complete inferno (unless blizzard failed miserably at making the game difficult). The armor, multiple mobility abilities, life gaining abilities and being able to switch between two weapons and a shield in combat greatly increase his chances. Yes the wizards can use every form of damage besides the monks’ holy damage, yes witch doctors get pets (that will probably get one shotted) on a 60 second cool down, yes demon hunters get a 15% speed increase with unlimited ranged attacks but all other classes cannot compete with a geared barbarian. A 30% chance to activate revenge (with provocation) means that if you stack armor and mainly vitality (since it’s a 5% heal, not a numeric value) you become an amazing healer for yourself, and luckily most enemies in Diablo have always ran to you. Ranged enemies will get the brunt of leap, furious charge, sprint, ancient spear or my favorite weapon throw with dread bomb rune (thrown corpses ftw). Unfortunately, since every level 60 barbarian will be the exact same as every other level 60 barbarian naked it will all come down to gear and those 19,683 gems you will have to pick up for one radiant star amethyst (http://www.diablo3artisans.com/jewelcrafting/gem-calculator/ ) with an 18% increase to vitality in a helm.
I think all classes have interesting abilities to be honest! ^.^
The ones that look good for me atm, which im slightly looking at more are barb/demon hunter ^.^

I just wanted to see what everyones' thoughts are on which class will be the best class at release. A short reason explaining why you think so should suffice.
I believe the sorceress will be the best class overall. Just as in Diablo 2, the sorceress teleported everywhere and shot out frost balls of death. Looking at the talent builder i'm sure that this will be the case in Diablo 3. This sucks for me as I dislike playing caster classes in Diablo games.
Your thoughts and opinions are appreciated.
I don't think there will really be any "best" classes, just best classes to suit your style.
I love Melee classes. In fact, I have NEVER played anything but in any game over the last 20 years.
I tried playing a Healer once in WoW but after I died about 90 times from trying to whack on people with my staves, I realized Magic just isn't for me.

A QUADRILLION MAGIC FIND is worthless if you can't kill shit!

But ultimately, at the risk of sounding generic, the "best" class will the the one you enjoy the most and excel at
