Hello, I was wondering if anyone knew if there was a negative to leveling with a higher level character as a duo. I really want to level with my brother but his limited playtime will have me several level above him when he can come back and play. Does the exp even out still or does the lower lvl toon recieve less exp. Thanks.
From what I've been able to gather from the beta the lower level receives a lot less exp. During the open beta a friend of mine had his first try at the game. he made a monk and that was all he wanted to play. the rest of us made new chars, but he just kept playing. We got almost no exp because he was level 13 even when we restarted at level 1.
Aw.. There would definitely be so many occasions that I might have to power level some friends... looks like I won;t be able to do that then...
Well I started a level 1 on HC and had 3 level 10-11's join and they ran me from start to end and I hit level 8 or so. So I think it depends on the area and prob about ~10 level difference.
If you hit about 8 it sounds like you recieve pretty much the same XP that any solo char does. Going through the beta in a normal phase gets you to 8 or 9, 10 if you clear everything and 7 if you super-rush through it. (Me and a friend did manage to get to SK at level 5 when really trying to skip everything we possibly could, we dinged 6 when he died)

i have had this problem back in WoW with friends, what we used to do was to set aside a character on each of our accounts, and we would only log on those characters when we could both play, we leveled a priest/warlock duo all the way to 60 and stayed pretty much exactly the same in XP all the way by doing this, meanwhile we each had other main characters which we would play solo. I will be playing solo the first run through the game anyway, i plan to smell the roses, max out every area map, read every dialogue, etc, then i will play with people online

Yea pretty much, except I didn't have to raise a finger. Cleared the content in like 20-30 minutes. It isn't D2 style fast, but it is faster.
I can say from experience that you receive ridiculously reduced xp with a higher level player. I was playing a level 10 Barb with my brother's fresh Wizard, and he wasn't even level 2 when we were hunting down Wretched Mothers.
You realize you get full quest exp right? Just do every quest at the end of each act - take them to a higher difficulty - and then just repeat the highest exp quest you can find for them.
All they need to do is stand in town...you can do it in the beta by repeatedly killing SK =/...at least I was able to do that in patch 15.

You still can. I would just afk in games and go do HW while they did quests, id come back and be halfway level or fully leveled. Just rinse and repeat.

Pretty much what I was saying. People will find the quest that gives the most exp in the shortest time. All they have to do is select a new quest -> last quest of the act -> invite you -> finish -> take you to say, Hell act IV where you get 15k exp per quest -> rinse repeat.

The beta is WAY easier than the rest of the game. Blues have said time and time again that Hell won't be a cakewalk, especially if you have the difficulty upped just to rush a friend who's at a lower level. Of course, we don't know what the actual game is like, but from what they're saying, your strategy will be very difficult.

I don't see how they can make a game that is impossible or very difficult for a level 60 over leveled and over geared to handle a few hell quests in a 2 player game by himself. If that is their design then public games are going to be a hell hole. People don't work together as is, if you make a system where over leveled and over geared guys can't even last by themselves in 2 players then it is over.
