Link brought this up to me while I was afk a few days ago. I was thinking about it, but what would it be used for? I mean yeah, it would basically merge our rep system and our post rank system. Simply "X" gold for posts, "X" gold for received rep, etc. But what else? Something cool I guess, we can add an in-forum D2. You pick and equip a character or something, but would it really be used?
Not to sure I want FG on DFans, since FG destroys economies of games. Look at D2, the economy is about 95% FG. D3 economy is already in jeopardy of being ruined by FG as well.
Forum Gold allows you to post a thread here, and different people will post how much FG they are willing to pay for (like "Looking for CoA" "600 FG?" "Only 1 Soc" "15 FG?")
Makes trading easier as you don't have to sit in a game all day waiting for someone serious about your item to come. Plus it can be introduced into trading in other games.
Let me explain.
Forum Gold is indeed a source of Currency.
It is used specifically to buy items from other Diablo players who have "Items" that you want for one of your characters. Just as Link said...
The problem in most cases would be having a "moderator" that did the exchanges for 2 people who don't trust each other, i'll also explain.
Some one has an item they want to sell, and they post a thread describing the items stats, color etc... Someone else comes in saying they will buy it for the asked amount $xx.xx FG.
Reputation plays a large part in the "Trust" of another player. But in this case, if you dont trust the person who wants to buy your item, then you ask for a moderator from DFans, to take both the FG and the item and transfer them to each person.
This would require DFans to increase our staff, have a new forum section dedicated to trading, and the adoption of new rules to regulate "Bumping" of posted threads.
Not to mention the implementation of Forum Gold, selling forum gold Via paypal to the DFans members, and minigames....
Yes, doing this would increase the fanbase HUGE, but would require a lot more work. I'll bring this up to the admins.

I'll start by saying I am wholly opposed to the idea of implementing forum gold onto Diablofans similar to what D2jsp uses.
First of all, the need for forum gold in D2 arose from the non-existend trading system in D2. Since Blizzard has learned a lot from WoW, and will improve and change upon ideas shaped there in the Auction House.
Second, creating a forum gold feature, integrating it, and making people use it will take a substantial amount of time and effort, when it is apparent that we will not in any way be able to compete with D2jsp on that front, and will find little use for it once D3 is released. As well it will also detract from time needed to implement many other needed changes onto this site.
A forum gold feature for site benefits? Perhaps, though there is much to be ironed out in such a proposal. What is is supposed to give, when is it awarded, what will people without it miss etc.
PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.

We have a trading forum and its barely active. Maybe after 1.13 people will use that section more. I think FG is unnecessary, a trading forum is enough. I used to trade on diii.net like a year ago and it was pretty successful.
In general, we have Diablo II forums and they aren't all that active, and that's really the only game I would see this really working for since it doesn't really have a common currency ingame.
In any case, I always liked the idea just for the fun of it. Someone wants a sig? 10 fg. Someone wants a custom title? 100 fg. I guess not many people would agree for those things, but it could be a kind of little game that we could encourage by pinning it on to contests and such. I think as a system purely for fun on the forums, and not for trading game items, it would be cool. It could even work in our RP's and such somehow, I'm sure.
An exchange medium for services and certain member identifiers, if you will. Doesn't have to compete with JSP, it's just for fun.
If you keep FG post attainable and don't allow trading items for FG then you can keep your idea of 10fg for a sig or 100 for a title.
Like I said even if D3 has a set currency of lets say Platinum. People will just trade FG for platinum or FG for gear still, the currency of d3 is already tainted and it isn't even released yet, FG makes it easier to trade but makes it so the people who spend the most real $ end up the richest, id rather Blizzard be in contol of it's currency then a site.
Ok. So basically forum gold is currency for games.
How it works, you would sell an item to the forum for x amount of forum gold. That item would be added to their stocks, and you would be given said forum gold, just added to your account.
Not your D2 account, your forum account.
There are items on sale on the forum for x amount of forum gold, you can use that gold to buy these items.
Essentially, it's just another form of currency.

I like the idea of using forum gold to enhance our community but to not tie it in with D2. I think if there was some good structure to the system it would be quite fun. Adding some fun things like titles or special features could help enhance this community.

People won't use the AH cause they invested real $ into FG on a site. Either way it is bad for the economy of the game cause it splits the games economy in half, you got half that use FG and half that trade gear in the AH. Back in the day when FG was acquired by posting and not by $ it was ok, but as soon as it became a money issue the economy on Diablo took a real shit and it is now a long shot to find good trades without FG.
Same will happen with Diablo 3, people are already saving and hording up FG in wait for Diablo 3 so when it is released they can use all their FG they attained from money or trading d2 junk to get the best D3 gear / services available. It's pretty unfair to the community who don't use FG or who don't spend real money on the game, in a sense the people with FG are getting a beta made character at launch cause they will already have tons of currency to do anything they want. IE: Level, gear, names, ect.
I'm just going to stop there and say that it is (will be) against the game rules. Trading for real money is not allowed in pretty much every game I have ever played.
I don't think anyone here had that in mind. I think we want it to be earned by posting/post rank, reputation and from contests.
Right it is against the rules but guess what...it's to late. FG on a site should only be used for paying for site services and nothing game related.
And, like previously noted, forum gold does not have to be linked with anything off the forum. I digress.
Looks like this isn't going anywhere for now and the discussion has changed from having it on the board to the inappropriate use of it by other sites. I'm going to close it for now.
Forum Gold: Gold on a Forum that can be used for trading purposes, services, etc...
