After a few iterations of the unreleased unattuned runestone system, Blizzard has decided that it's not solid enough to be released for testers. From the sound of it, unattuned runestones will not make it into the game:
Official Blizzard Quote:
We actually have moved on from the previously discussed unattuned system. We've been trying many different ideas out, but we're not quite comfortable enough with any of them yet to invite you in and see what you think.
Channeled Skills Resource Cost Issue
Nothing has changed here, but it's worth mentioning because it's an interesting debate:
Official Blizzard Quote:
Some beta testers are finding that DoTs (generally, skills which do damage per second over X seconds) are scaling w/ a weapon's DPS, not the flat damage. Instead of the WoW method (lowering the time between "ticks," and then adding a whole tick after a threshold is reached), the damage is just flat out scaling w/ weapon speed. However, it only applies to DoTs or other non-weapon speed based skills (pets, channeled spells, Ice Armor reflect damage, etc).
First of all, GOOD. Continuous scaling makes it less of a headache to balance and see results instantly from upgrades in gear. However, will these effects be obvious in skill tooltips? Will it tell us when a skill uses a weapon's damage or DPS for calculations, plus how this all works in dual wield? Take a monk, dual wielding fist weapons, using Exploding Palm. He applies the DoT bomb; the DoT damage scales w/ weapon speed, but which weapon? Do you alternate hands to calculate damages?
The tick rate of channeled skills is currently scaled by your weapon speed. This has the side effect of making the resource cost go up, which we’re okay with. It’s consistent with the philosophy that faster speed weapons consume more resource but may do more damage. Channeled skills might still be better with slower weapons though because on a channeled skill, you have as much mobility as you want, so the “mobility” and “overkill” advantages of faster weapons are eroded with channeled abilities, so all you’re left with is increased mana cost for increased damage.
We've been thinking of changing the tooltips and going with “ continuously does X% weapon damage”. The reservations we currently have are:
Even though we say continuously, there’s a pulse rate under the hood, so do players want to know this pulse rate?
If we did show a pulse rate, we’re adding more complexity to an already complicated tooltip.
However, the benefit of being able to directly compare 135% weapon damage on Disintegrate to X% weapon damage on another skill is super high, so we love that.
Stepping back and going big picture, we’re currently working on greatly simplifying tooltips. It’s too early to give details at this point, but our general feeling is that we provide way too much information in the skill tooltips in general.
Facebook Beta Sweepstakes Reminder
Tomorrow will be the second-to-last wave of invites for the Facebook Beta Sweepstakes Blizzard is doing. To be clear, however, that does not mean they will not continue inviting people into the beta.

Diablo Wiki Update
By PhrozenDragon What's New?
Apoc has implemented a new way to better display NPC information. Essentially NPCs in the wiki now work just like items do, where all the relevant data for an NPC is stored on their data page, such as Data:Npcs/Captain Daltyn. At the moment the change is more preparatory nature than anything else, but down the road it will allow the wiki to use NPC information with much greater flexibility.
The template documentation plan mentioned two weeks ago has been completed, modeled after Wikipedia's structure, and Talkerst has begun implementing it in the wiki. You can see some examples of this new documentation on Template:Weapon DPS, Template:DocStart (the documentation template itself), and Template:Booksource.
A new gem list as been added, based on the item list showcased last week, and is implemented on the Gems page. The gem information is also up-to-date and has ben expanded to explain in more detail how gems work.
The item lists are almost complete with just Mighty Weapons and a few class armor pages remaining.
Interesting news. Iv seen some screenshots with the scaling with exploding palms being a bit high ( 110% i think was the highest I saw it it) its good to see more information on it.
In WoW they have an option for simple tooltips or more complex ones. I'm not sure why they wouldn't just go ahead and add that option into Diablo III, since some people may want the simple tooltips and other people (like me) want to know exactly what's going on. It's probably the best way to please everyone.
Blizzard's become like the CNN of game developers. Instead of just doing their own thing and being confident in it, they're constantly like, "Tell us what YOU think."
Cherubdown sorry but your journalism skills here fail miserably. For starters, I don't know how you got to the conclusion that they are scrapping the unattuned rune system. They have been saying for months now that they are unsure about the new system and it has moved on and evolved from what was previously said, which means that they are STILL IN the game but have been significantly changed, and they are not "ready" enough for them to put it out to the public.
Secondly, you misquote Bashiok on "but we're not quite comfortable enough with any of them yet to invite you in and see what you think." as "Blizzard has decided that it's not solid enough to be released for testers". Everyone and their dog whom have been paying the slightest attention to the Beta knows that Blizzard will not put Runestones, or any other content out for testing. Period. He was referring to releasing details about the system.

He got the conclusion that unattuned runestones are out from the blue quote which says they aren't going on that direction. The quote is quite clear. Nothing in the quote nor his article said anything about runestones being removed from the game. The only thing that's gone are the unattuned.
Secondly, you misquote Bashiok on "but we're not quite comfortable enough with any of them yet to invite you in and see what you think." as "Blizzard has decided that it's not solid enough to be released for testers". Sheesh, talk about misinformation.
I'm not sure who's dogs you have been talking to, but there's zero reason to believe they wouldn't test them out in the beta in some form. Whether Bashiok meant they'd be tested in the beta or we'd just read about it on the website is anyone's guess. They've already added content in the form of the gah and rmah. If it's a large enough system, and they certainly feel runestones are a huge part of the game (thus all this time spent deciding what to do), they'll want it tested.
Secondly, you misquote Bashiok on "but we're not quite comfortable enough with any of them yet to invite you in and see what you think." as "Blizzard has decided that it's not solid enough to be released for testers".
Wait.. how can you misquote a direct quote
No misinformation here, just misinterpretation. Thanks for the update cherub

Just lol. Here is the perfect example of someone who has no idea what they are talking about, yet still decides to come in and post in an attempt to disprove someone who is right.
It's only been said about 100 times by Blizzard, and known by anyone who is following Diablo 3 Beta in the slightest. Score 1 for the guy who has no idea what he's talking about!
He didn't say it was scrapped, he said "From the sound of it, unattuned runestones will not make it into the game:"
[blizz quote follows]. An interesting point of view in my opinion, which is an interpretation as good as any other.
I know he isn't saying that they definitely removed them - but he is passing off a quote from Bashiok as the basis of a claim that the Attunement system may be out, when in fact there is absolutely no sign at all hinting to their removal. He completely misinterpreted the quote and posted this as front page news, as well as a direct misquote from Bashiok claiming that the Rune system will be tested on the Beta. I'm just pointing out that it was a very amateur interpretation that will spread misinformation to those who are none the wiser.
I'll address what I said since there seems to be a problem.
My colegue Molster quickly pointed this out when I first wrote this up. So I was inclined to put a question mark in the title. I figured that would clear up the intent of the short what was to be a blue quote with a twist.
Since D3 was originally slated for this year, and that Bllizzard is working really hard on getting everything in, and the nature of Blizzard Entertainment, it's not ridiculous for me to theorize the system could be scrapped.
I'd also say that Bashiok's quote wasnt perfectly clear either. What testers was he talking about? I took what I could from the quote and delivered what I think to be a reasonable conclusion.
All that, plus I'm in the middle of finals so I threw this all together very quickly. If the wording isn't perfect it's because I'm busy worrying about Computer Architecture and UNIX networking
I think you did fine, Cherub. I don't know how someone could completely ignore the question mark there. You weren't making a statement, you were making a guess or asking a question (there's speculation all over this board...). Blizzard could very well scrap the idea all together, who knows at this point. I think a lot of what Blizzard says sometimes is kind of cryptic, so it's hard to tell. Also, I think most of what Blizzard says is analyzed far too much where people could read ANYTHING into it. 10 different people could read a quote from Blizz, and each person could think it means something different.

The quote is as many have said to be the typical Blizzard cryptic message that we should come to expect. I do think that Jay and the others are still banging their heads together to make it work. I think in the end the only way they will be happy on NOT putting it in the game is if they tried EVERYWAY to put it in the game. Here's a thought on how they could possibly get it in the game, be different, and give a little longevity to the system/game.
A unique way would to make them unique effects to their own, not following the normal runset. Maybe make them "Synergy Runes" where when you place the rune in one of your current Active Abilities, it will randomly gain an effect that works off another one of your Active Abilities. The amount and how strong would vary.
Just lol. Here is the perfect example of someone who has no idea what they are talking about, yet still decides to come in and post in an attempt to disprove someone who is right.

Again, you are the one misinterpreting what was said. Bash's quote said they have moved on from unattuned runes, so they won't be part of the game. That's extremely clear. What isn't clear is whether runestones will be added to beta. It's certainly possible, as he Bash doesn't explain what "invite you in and see what you think" means.

If any fan artists want to upload their own art, feel free to do so.
Arcane missiles... Fires pink crap at mobs... Blows stuff up gud.... Or something like that
And a second one which is shift mouseover that is a more complicated tooltip...
Arcane missiles... Fires a damaging bolt of Arcane energy that does x% weapon damage followed by a dot that ticks at 10 damage/% weapon speed.
That way you make it easy for those who don't want the nitty gritty but also allows for those that do.
And the guy above me just made me look stupid by saying the exact same thing... It wasn't there when i posted... Honest.
Siaynoq's Playthroughs
I'll wait and see what they implemented (hopefully soon).
Tooltips: I'd like a tootips option as exampled by Jaelzadeon, allowing the player to choose between brief or extensive version.
But I think soon enough we'll have guides covering all this stuff and I'll be studying math with renewed enthusiasm
