Well we've never seen a bard-type class or a type of character that does like illusions, confuses enemies, mind-control..., that sort of thing (for those of you who've played gw think mesmer but darker, more necro-like)
I made a suggestion in the sticky thread which disappeared for some reason...
Anyways, i suggested a class that would use Demonic magic, not undead/halloween stuff like the necromancer, but magic a demon straight from hell would use. No idea how to call that class, (demon hunter ?), but you get the idea.
I'd like to see some sort of Samurai as the tank class or paladin replacement. I know that would restrict his armor and weapon options looks wise, but hey, I'm no art designer I'm sure there's a way to add variety.
A mechanic that sort of arises from this concept is the Samurai belief that his sword was his soul, and that by harmonising himself with his weapon, the two would become one entity on the battlefield and the true power of the katana would be unleashed. As such you could have a sort of Soul Sword class that via his chakras using his blade as a conduit is able to perform amazing skills.
It could add to the lore and become another race of humans who train in some far off land in temples etc. etc. you know the rest, to become demon slayers, Warrior monks even.
Examples of skills.
Heaven Wall: The Samurai's holy chakras allow him to react with uncanny speed, any melee attacks suffered have a chance to be blocked and instantly countered. (Say a 10% chance maximum, buff like Barb's warcry. Counters go from 50% to 130% weapon damage with increased rank*
Demon Cutter: As a result of heavy training the Samurai is able to accelerate at intense speed, effectively blinking to the target causing 200% weapon damage with a shockwave pulsing from the primary target dealing 125% weapon damage to all hit nearby.
Chakra Edge: The Samurai condenses his chakra into his blade then performs an Iai (A katana technique in which the Samurai draws his katana and slashes his opponent in one rapid motion) which produces a chakra wave dealing damage in a line to any target hit.
Many might hate the idea but I personally love the whole oriental vibe when it comes to warriors, honour codes and all that banter. and it's a theme Blizz haven't really explored in any great detail in Diablo, something new perhaps.
Aren't you the same guy that made the Samurai class post?
Samurai are not, were not, and never will be a defensive class.
They were not even really swordsmen. They were cavalry archers.
each existing class in the diablo universe is an universal class, whereas samurai is an exclusively japanese class. seeing as how japan is not a nation within the world of sanctuary, that would not work. besides, if you want asian crap go play RO or GW or somethin
i wasnt refering to universal in the world of sanctuary, but in the real world. a warrior can come from anywhere, as can a mage or ranger, but samurai are exclusively japanese. but i certainly wasnt attempting to make a big deal of it i was just pointing out that this is an rpg made by an american company and i would think it best to leave out asian influence lest we turn this into a gw-esque franchise
Witch Doctors - Some freaking Jungle somewhere, don't remember the name.
Amazons - Female Warrior race from one freaking group of islands.
Hardly universal. Plus there's a new area on the D3 map that was previously unamed, now called Xiansai. I don't know why people have to get so worked up at other people's suggestions. This wasn't "Name the class that will definately go into Diablo 3 - be right or your family tree gets cancer!!!" It was a class you would like to see, I would like to see an oriental inspired warrior class, not specifically a Samurai but I used the name for convenience.
Some people really need to chillax about these things.
Xiansai is the rumoured home of the Assassin Order.
Also Xiansai is more akin to Chinese naming than Japanese.
I think We'll see the Paladin, or a character very much like the Paladin.
Just because the Zakarum became corrupt does not discount that Westmarch (if I remember correctly) has it's own order of Paladins.
I think a lot of the samurai/monk "hate" comes from the fact that there are many gamers who are also really into anime and want to see the stuff they watch there in the games they play (which is understandable), but there are also a lot of people that can't stand anime and being around other gamers who constantly bark for anime-esqe features in the games really irks them.
5. ?
- Shapeshifting
- Summoning (would need to be different from the Witch Doctor, though..)
- Traps (dissapear when shapeshifted, so you really have to choose between the two)
So, the Barbarian stays in, which we already know. The Necromancer gets replaced by the Witch Doctor (and somewhat by ?). The Sorceress becomes a Magician, stays pretty much the same except now using Arcane while Witch Doctor has Fire. The Amazon and Paladin are replaced by the Paragon, who is a mix of both. The Druid is replaced by ? who also plays a bit like the Assassin and (although it doesn't matter for playstyle) can summon some undead as well.
Only thing missing is a character that wields claws and uses charge-up skills and finishing moves. But I couldn't for the life of me think of anything like that except the Assassin herself, and I don't think she'll be in. But I would like to see her traps being used by another class. I think the replacement for the druid shouldn't be using earth magic anyway, it's too much the same as fire magic gameplay-wise.
Excuse me, but that's bullshit. As someone who likes to watch a good anime every once in a while, I would totally hate to see that shit in Diablo.
I like this division of classes. The Paladin was a bit too bland IMO, and would merge nicely with the amazon. You can easily condense all the auras into 1 skill tree and just have each be really unique, and open up an extra area for ranged attacks. This would also leave more room for an additional class - and a druid-like type would be good in that slot.
I'd like to see a more pure Knight class, perhaps one who uses mounts (Mythical creatures, horses), Chivalry (Damage enemies, or aid team mates and player kinda like auras), Technique (Special abilities which help the Knight battle).

Don't try to be a great man, just be a man... and let history make its own judgment. -Zefram Cochrane, Star Trek
Well lets see here, the game will have five classes, and so far we have the Barbarian and the Witch-Doctor. Both appear to be continental imports from the real world, Europe and Africa. If thats true, archetypal characters originating from three more continental 'lands' would be needed.
Asia, or something similar is very likely to be one of them. Another land might have been shown in the Concepts trailer. It showed what appeared to be a North-American location art, with great orange-red canyons/deserts and whatnot. This leaves the South-American continent. So thats three. If that is indeed the case, here are possible characters from those lands:
1. Asia - Some type of melee character with some amount of magic-related abilities. Monks as healers seem to be a popular suggestion in this thread, but many consider them to be a poor-mans choice for a full Paladin. Not quite true in the real world however, one example of a warrior monk is a Shaolin Buddhist Warrior. They specialize in hand-to-hand melee combat, but may also use a number of basic weaponry. Combine this with whatever healing abilities you like, and other elemental powers, and you have yourself a great class to play with.
2. North America - Some type of nature-related magic class. American Indian tribes offer a good range of possibilities, but the only thing that sticks out enough are Chiefs. In any case, I would say that this particular class would be adept at controlling weather-related phenemnon, much like the Druid. Wind, fire, water, and especially earth, together with ice and lightning could all be controlled by such a class. They may also be able to use ranged weaponry, such as axes, daggers, spears, and bows, although likely not without sacrificing their magic skills. Another similarity with Druids might be their ability to transform into monstrous creatures, such as Werewolves and Wendigos.
3. South America - Some type of Aztec or Inca related warrior. Melee based probably, with specializations using blow-darts and the like. Poison skills are also typical for such a class. One problem is that these warriors usually wore decorative headgear in battle, but this together with its poison skills clashes with the tribal Witch-Doctor, so I can't say how valid such a class would be for this game. If it were imported however, weapons specific to the class would be interesting. There would be swinging bolas, stone-based battle axes, slings with stones or spears (powerful Aztec Atlatl), wooden swords with jagged teeth in the blade, blow-darts of course, and spears.
Other possibilities for locations might be Pacific Islands, warriors there are quite fearsome and makes for an interesting class to play with. Another might be desert-based locals, where nomads rule the land. Sand-related powers such as dust-devils, massive dust-storms and the like would be interesting to look at.
Diablo 3 is a new game, so I hope all the 3 unannounced classes will be new…
Cleric (or Inquisitor, Exorcist, Zealot, Monk, Priest…)
Basically a replacement for the Sorceress as a pure range caster wielding staves and wands.
In all the games that have a fantasy setting, it seems that the pure damage dealer always have to be a mage. A cleric (usually healbots in such games) doing the job of the mages/sorceress would be more original IMO. After all, we’re fighting demons and undeads here, so a class only using the energies of the Light should be as potent as any sorcerer.
He should also have some skills similar to the Paladin’s : buffs, heals, maybe some auras… That would make him a very interesting and versatile character : not only able to solo the game just by slaughtering enemies with powerful holy spells, but also very usefull in any group.
Anti-Paladin
Even if I dont want the Paladin to come back in D3, I think he deserves to get a replacement that would basically have the same role (melee/caster hybrid). Instead of a holy warrior, we could have the exact opposite. I’ve found two interesting concepts for this class on these forums, but I cant really choose…
1) Melee Necromancer
If you played Warcraft 3 : think Death Knight.
He could be a Necromancer from the cult of Rathma that decided to wear plate armor and fight his enemies himself instead summoning skeletons. His unholy spells and curses would increase his damage/armor or weaken his enemies.
While still able to summon skeletons, he would mostly use close combat skills.
2) Warlock (or Demon hunter, Demonologist…)
A warrior that decided to use the demons’ powers against them. Able to use fire spells (such as immolation/fire armor), he can also transform himself into a demon to be even more powerful in close combat.
He should be able to enslave demons and force them to fight for him.
?
Then we’d need an archer… I dont have any good ideas. Maybe an Amazon/Assassin mix could do the job.
Basically the biggest problem with my ideas is that there would not be any class mastering the elements (fire/ice/lightning/earth/water) or nature, plants and animals (like the druid). To me its not a problem but that could disappoint quite a few fans.
I'd like to see a more pure Knight class, perhaps one who uses mounts (Mythical creatures, horses), Chivalry (Damage enemies, or aid team mates and player kinda like auras), Technique (Special abilities which help the Knight battle).
Yeah, I'm kinda digging that. Although, I was thinking more along the lines of "Angelist-Knight" it's like the revamped version of the Paladin. Maybe the paladins' have altered their customs and ways of combat and have gained a bit more angelic power in the 20 years that the prime evils have been gone. He could still use auras to fill the support character role of the paladin from diablo 2, but would still have better skills that help him fend for himself than the d2 paladin had.
One skill I had in mind was "Ethereal-Tendrils" where he could inherit the angelic "wings" or "tendrils" on an arch-angel's (tyrael's) back for a duration. The tendrils would automatically attack surrounding opponents by whipping enemies within the skill's attack radius.

Keep this anime inspired stuff away, please.

Well, they could be a defensive class if a game designer really wanted then to be, but that would just be awful.
But, yeah, I completely agree with Veritech on this one.

Just cause he's black doesn't mean he's African.
He could be Jamaican.

Witch Doctor - Summoner, damage dealer. This guy took the best parts of the Necro and Druid and comes out yelling "Ooga-booga" I like it.
Woodsman/woman - A mix of archery and melee, toss in a few druid skills and we're ready to roll.
Swashbuckler - This is your melee hybrid. He's part warrior, part rogue, and would excel at one-on-many due to his fast and flashy style.
Wizard - Cheesy purple robes and equally cheesy pointed hat. Instead of being a pure elementalist, his focus is the arcane. Both heavenly and demonic.
