What entirely new character class would you like to see in Diablo 3? This excludes Warrior, Sorcerer/Sorceress, Rogue, Assassin, Druid, Paladin, Amazon, Necromancer, and the Barbarian (already included in D3). I think a monk or cleric would be cool. The monk in Hellfire was kinda lame and probably the closest thing we've had so far to a healer character would be a paladin. So what are your thoughts?
I don't think they will add a monk type class as those are generally used as healers which aren't needed in the games. Thinking more into it, though, they may become necessary as the potion hotbar is being replaced, but what about the people playing Solo? No healers? If monks are not used as healers then they would be used as a "Holy Warrior" which is the definition of a Paladin. Monk's just don't strike me like Paladin's do. There will be a Holy Warrior but I don't think they will use Monk for the name. It just isn't intimidating.
There will definitely be some sort of mage that uses elemental skills, but in a more reformed way as the sorceress.
That leaves one slot left for a ranged missile type.
I made all those connections after I got done typing all of those things so.. yeah.. it's pretty obvious we're going to get reformed skills and names but it will essentially be the same thing.
Learn to read, good sir. I said monks are generally used as healers but if they aren't then he would have to play the role of the Holy Warrior. But, seeing as how the word "Monk" isn't very intimidating I doubt they would name the Holy Warrior a Monk.
Blame Guild Wars. They took a great melee character and turned them into healbots.
Guildwars is a completely different type of game though. There is very little in the way of solo playing which makes a Healer invaluable. I understand what your saying about a warrior type monk, but what type of skills would they have?
Pretty sure we are not going to get re-makes of the 5 Diablo 2 classes. I vote swashbuckler as well, Meshif looked like he could take it to the prime evils.
I totally agree, whos to say that blizzard is going along with the same "routine" The character classes of d2 and LoD were so unlike the 3 classes of the origional so whos to say they arent going to think outside the box... like the rest of the game obviously has been.
Anyways I like the idea of a pirate/swashbuckler kind of person... maybe some sort of assasin/ninja kind of person or a gunslinger or explosives artist who uses "technology" to his advantage. Not like automatic guns or anything but like shotguns and maybe have a higher up skill where he could summon a cannon or something.

Kicking ass.
No really, martial arts and psychic powers. But more defined than the Assassin.

That would completely destroy the feel of the game in my opinion. Summon a cannon? sounds like the tinker from wc3.
Barbarian
Witch Doctor (basically necro/druid)
Mage (pure caster)
Ranger (could be a combo of amazon and assassin with range and traps?)
Holy Knight (Or any other name you choose, but basically a paladin. I can't see them completely turning their backs on this type of character)

Now.. I know what you're all thinking:
Barbarian - Well.. Barbarian Obviously..
Witch Doctor - Necromancer
Holy Warrior - Paladin
Mage - Sorceress
Ranged Missile - Amazon

But yes. An archer/java of some sort I'm sure.
Caster class. Probably 'Magi' or something.
And a class that's built for sword and board.
Blame Guild Wars. They took a great melee character and turned them into healbots.
