i would really like to see a spellcaster who does dark magic (ie necromancer) but is a melee character as well, similar to eq's shadowknight. ive always loved playing d2 as a necro but i always wanted to give the enemy a good-old fashioned pounding as well. something else that wood be cool would be like a nature/dark magic character: ranger-necro hybrid of sorts. any thoughts?
They should have an Egyptian, or even Atlantian class... The egyptian could have a mummy soldiers spell, and some other such crap.. The Atlantian could have something totally new, they could make stuff up, lie to our faces and we'd still buy it because we know jack shit about Atlantis..Did it even exist? haha.. Both classes could have an array of interesting spells and items..Omg, the items would be crazy!!!
Logical or not, make it work baby!!

Lace me with the words of destruction and I'll explode, but supply me with the will to survive and watch the world grow.
a vampire maybe?? I could see blizzard making some completely kick ass skills for a class like that.
A vampire won't be able to do anything during the day (except kill stuff in dungeons).

An Undead class would be pretty cool. Or demon class.
Like a Succubus if female and some nasty looking demon if male, maybe with the same appearance as the council of Kurast, but with demon heads.

No thanks at all.
Why would a demon allow itself to be tamed, why would a fighter of good want to tame a demon in the first place, and why would the other heroes want to associate themselves with scum that ally themselves with demonkin.
A demon wouldn't want to fight other demons either, except to obtain great powers for self, banish Diablo, Baal and Meph and to become the Lord of all Hell. Banish, but not kill, because there won't be Diablo 4
Oh, if the player character is a succubus, the other heroes will be very eager to associate themselves with it.
NecromancerSasha - Way to go!!! Thanks for answering those questions. And now that you have answered those questions. Doesn't the class seem much more probable for the game? It has elements that can be balanced, and has a feel to the character. Although, I would like to see it have a little more uniqueness from the original Necromancer, but definately a good start.
AcidReign - I don't have to tell you that your idea is great. Nocturnal magic, excellent!
Lots of good ideas everyone, keep 'em coming.
Makes me want to come up with another new character class again.
The only class that I can think of that world fit in the world of diablo would be a alchemist class. A class that uses both ranged weapons and magical potions to fight.
Instead of having a Paladin, there should be a straight-up Angel class which would have powers similar to the Seraphim class in Sacred -- combo of melee and holy or light-based offensive magic.

Why should there be a angel class? This fight is meant to be Sanctuary VS all comers.
Besides, a angel interfering in Sanctuary is highly frowned upon and Tyrael only got away with it because he's part of the Angiris Council, which is the highest angelic order.
Ok, I've come up with a few ideas, some of which I've posted before. Others may have posted similar, I didn't read the whole thread.
Monk:
Thats right I said monk. We're talking shaolin style, not Friar Tuck. Why do I say monk? It fits perfectly with the lore. Each class has a culture behind it. Humans here are decendants of the Nephalem, beings of great power. The monks of Xiansai would be their own order, apart from the ways of zakarum or hell, who are trying to ascend to the point where they are their own entity, independant of dark and light.
Skill trees would include physical (we're talking martial art skills), mental (telekinetic skills) and spiritual (possible healing as well other mental abillities).
Sample skills would include Telekinesis (instead of just right clicking and pushing you would right click on the item or monster to grab it, and then drag it wherever you want, like into other monsters or breakable objects, or to you so you could take it hand to hand), levitate (great way to avoid problems for a short amount of time), Meditation (way to get back mana, chain with levitation for a break in safety), and some cool martial skillz like flying dragon kick or bicycle kick (think Lu Kang from Mortal Kombat).
Hunter:
I'm not talking about the WoW hunter, I'm thinking something more along the lines of Van Helsing. They'd be native to the area around Tristram, children who lost parents back then. While everyone else could rationalize away what happened, these people could not. They'd learn whatever they could to hunt down and kill demons. They'd also spend time staking out and patroling graveyards and such.
These people would have a certain amount of respect for their quarry, so they'd be the ones with the ranged skill-tree (such as a crossbow). Other skill trees would be Traps and Wards (fairly self explanitory) and enchantment (they'd enchant their weapons to be appropriate to their quarry).
Sample skillz: Rapid shot, ice/fire/arcane/holy shot, impacted shot (does bludgeoning damage instead of pearcing for fighting undead), Death Ward (keeps imps and pygmies from being rezzed by their shammies), Fear Ward (scares demons away), Track Demon (chain with Fear Ward), enchant weapon: Fire/ice/arcane/poison/holy etc.
Gypsy:
No, gypsy is not the final name for this person, I just can't decide on a good one, althought the skill set would put it with thieves, bards, or illusionists. I'm betting you'll figure out that their supposed to have the same culture as European gypsies. Wanderers, bandits, performers, con-men, etc. Always with a mystical air about them.
Skill trees would start with Illusion (stealth, deception, slight of hand, etc.) However, not all of what they do is and illusion. With this group, you never know whether what they are doing is real or not, so be wary. Next up is Mysticism (yes, this is the real magic). Finally, combat (these folks fight dirty).
Sample skillz: Feint (% chance of making it so that the will not be prepared for the next real hit), Dissapear (flash of light and smoke screen, and poof! their invisible untill they try to do something), disguise (can take the form of someone they've killed, allowing them to move peacefully among enemies), charm (the enemy will not hurt you), blink (we all should know this one by now).
That's all I've got. You may criticize these ideas now.

cool stuff, but its mostly been done, i think d3 devs want something very unique and different though. your renditions are pretty cool, but the skills seem used up. especially the hunter and monk.

Remember the String of Ears
"to the worm in horseradish, the world is horseradish."
Considering the problems we have been having lately on both the D3 forums, how about the Flaming Troll class. I'll leave the skill creation to you guys. YES, I'm trying to be funny.
As with any RPG there has to be at least three categories, melee, ranged, and caster. We know they will have those three. Diablo has added summoner to the list. Also, we know there will be five classes which are to be distinctly different.
My best guess would be a druid since there should be some sort of shapeshifter; we've also seen what appears to be a female druid in the artwork. However, I would like to see the shapeshifter changed from a druid to something that could take the form of a demon or something it's fighting. Not quite sure what you would call that.
* - The classes are to be distinctly different; therefore, since the WD has summoning abilities I don't think they would include a necromancer in the mystery spot. That would make two classes similar which is not what Blizzard said their intentions are.
A Monk class could be like a hybrid of the Diablo 2's assassin (martial arts) and paladin (defensive/healing auras). I could dig that.
I could also see a class like Ranger: good with ranged weapons but also able to dual-wield (not able to dual-wield heavy stuff like the barbarian in D2, though).

no no not chuck norris !
perhaps some hero from asian xD lol how about a chinese character? hahaha
or Condor Hero is a plus lol
Amazons won't be in Diablo 3. Read the lore from your D2 manual. There are males in said society but none of them fight.
Rogue, gunslinger, swashbuckler, Ranger, something of this nature will take the ranged class since none of those are sex limited.
and also the short bow that dropped.
Barb - Melee
WD - *Summoner
Mage(?) - Caster
Rogue(?) - Ranged
