Im not sure if this has been pointed out, but i noticed that when the barbarian was killing off all of the ghouls, there were floating numbers, but only very few. I'd imagine the floating numbers represent critical hits, or special attacks or something of that sort. If it was floating numbers for all damage then the screen would have been filled with numbers from killing all those ghouls.
I think that the first time I go through the game I definately would not want these floating numbers. It ruins the immersion.
Once I've killed Diablo and I'm going through the higher difficulty levels then I would probably enable them as once you've gone through the game once it becomes less about lore and story and more about making your character as imba as possible, so these numbers will help to see how you are doing.

man just want to have a feeling that he is playing DIABLO game, not some alien shooter... With floating numbers it feels like an arcade, imagine "double kill!!" or "killing spree" floating on the screen...totally lame... And I dont like idea of that health things that levitates after you kill group, they say that there will be no more potions or something like that. Arcade I say. If aint broken dont fix it. Potions were ok in D2 and who cares fof numbers od exp?
Alien shooter? What the hell are you talking about? Arcade O_0? Who is "They"? You honestly didn't do a single shred of research before you came barging in here, next time I recommend it before you make yourself look like a total fool.
lol that would be so gay lol... like 10 things within 3 seconds = "MEGA KILL" o fuck.... man fucking gay
What are you talking about? You mean all those crits at once? It's hammer of the ancients.
Hammer of the Ancients
Rank: 4/5
A massive attack that increased chance to critically hit.
Stamina: 16
Deals 225% weapon damage plus an additional 14 physical damage
+25% chance to critically hit
I'm more bothered with the big health bar that shows over the monsters heads.
As far as i'm concerned its kinds nice to see when you make a critical hit and how much damage it did.
But I really feel that health bars over the monsters should be significantly reduced or removed all together!

Diablo 3 is graphically and artistically great, there needs to be variety in the game, instead of only plain and dark areas!
+Wouldn't it be better and more interesting if from a sunny beautiful day, mist starts covering the screen, rain starts falling, thunders and lightning striking and it starts to darken, instead of constant dark!?
too much whining for nothing, thats the easiest thing to have turned on/off.
there's a "floating combat text" option in WoW too. You can disable it at any time.

Oh man....
That's right, it seems really stupid now when I've seen your thread. Mods might as well close this thread since all the discussion about this is basicly pointless!
Hah...^_^

how did this thread make it to 13 pages? Seriously?! I like seeing what crit damage I do, however this is something that the player will likely be able to turn on and off in an option menu.
"such a shame that we won't be seeing this title on the shelves for another year or two at the earliest." A year or two before this comes out?! OMG! Please someone tell me I misread that.

I'm sure you;ll be able to turn the numbers off, but I think it is a great idea and I'll be leaving them on. I like knowing what is going on.

Meh, I really doubt she can 'sense evil' or whatever. She was probably just excited about a shoe sale or something, coincidentally when evil was about.

Of course it's a lot of crits and damage...

Agreed! Especially in HC it always makes me flinch looking away from the action to check out health / boss attributes, etc.
Well it seems like the bosses and mini bosses health bar will still be on top, but uniques and regular mobs will be near your character.

It's not uncommon, and most likely it will be able to be toggled. Let's not just jump to conclusions like "OMG THATS SUCH A WOW THING TO DO!11"
Lots of games had it before WoW.
