What's the point of having them there? When I'm fighting an annoying boss like Duriel I'm concnetrating on killing him, not ranting on how i crit him for 572 then die because of my lack of attention
ok..There were hit numbers in the gameplay Trailer Get Over It Now... You will Most likly be able to disable it, and if they don't add that feature im sure you will get over it it, and if you don't Im sure there will be a few other QQ"n and They might add the feature to do it or maybe a mod to turn it off ???, cause srsly all this QQ it hurts my Eyes
I'm more bothered with the big health bar that shows over the monsters heads.
As far as i'm concerned its kinds nice to see when you make a critical hit and how much damage it did.
But I really feel that health bars over the monsters should be significantly reduced or removed all together!
I love the health bars. Atm in D2 its damn annoying to hover the mouse while at the same time you try to ww .. it's almost impossible, you have to stop killing to check what mob has low hp and how is the triple enchanted conviction boss doing.
So long as I can toggle the numbers I don't mind. Will be handy when I'm first starting out and I want to choose which monster to attack. But it also detracts and distracts from the eye candy.
During battle I can see which monsters are critical and target them / leave them alone / whatever. I can also pick out uniques better.
Okay, the Blizzard Irvine / WoW people got their way with this one. But WoW has the option to toggle so I'm not fussed.

So we've got over the problem of colour in D3. Great. Now let's argue about everything else not yet set in stone and help make this game simply great! Game on.
man just want to have a feeling that he is playing DIABLO game, not some alien shooter... With floating numbers it feels like an arcade, imagine "double kill!!" or "killing spree" floating on the screen...totally lame... And I dont like idea of that health things that levitates after you kill group, they say that there will be no more potions or something like that. Arcade I say. If aint broken dont fix it. Potions were ok in D2 and who cares fof numbers od exp?
the original theme of rpg's is to have floating numbers to show the damage youve inflicted this isnt unreal tournament
guys, even WoW didnt have it implemented on the beginning (most people used an add-on to see it).
Blizzard added it with a patch a few months ago with the option to toggle it on/off.
If they managed to do it (hell, even the modders did it) in a patch, you dont think they cant (i doubt thats there isnt an option already) do it within the next 18-24 months thats about the time Diablo III will be released?
stop crying about everything you see already, this is really getting childish.

If you die when looking at a number that is directly in front of your face, where the action is, and fades away in 2 seconds....
I never really cared much for floating numbers myself. But it's all a matter of preference. It's immersion vs. feedback and convenience, such as names, health bars, maps, floating numbers, way points (convenience) etc... You can argue about some of these being inline with immersion or not depending on how it's implemented, for instance, town portal scrolls being a rare found is more immersive than it being something you can buy at your local store... Everyone has a limit when going either way, but those limits obviously, are not at the exact same point in the spectrum for every single gamer.
What I have noticed, is that slowly, the scales are tipping in the favor of feedback and convenience. When EverQuest first came out, they were going for immersion, but began to shift sides as players began to play other games and except more kinds of feedback and convenient ways to travel from point A to B as fast as they can.

It didn't have scrolling combat text but it sure did have a way to show damage done to monster. Not damage done to you tho, other than combat log.
Many rpg games have damage display (bg2 etc) perhaps not floating but some kind of. Some MUD's have verbal damage display, you hit wolf and slightly injure him.
Would be ok tho if you could toggle it on/off -> less whine.
i dont think anyone had evidence there isnt such an option. We havent seen any of the game menus yet.
but since WoW has it implemented (and it wasnt hard to do) i assume that Diablo III also does.
I don't know if anyone has already said this, but ... what about being able to toggle on and off floating numbers, that way no one gets upset and cries about this anymore.
So I was re watching the game play trailer... the barbarian does roughly 10 cleaves and kills about 25 ghouls before the first number appears.... it definitely must be something specific that triggers it.
I assume it's crit's, and to me it's a plus, as I do often wonder how hard I am nailing baddies for in other Diablo games.
