Personally, I don't mind the current way it looks, but here's what I would prefer. The beginning of the game should start out in "happier" looking areas that maybe demons just started coming to and haven't yet had the chance to leave their mark on the environment. Then, the further into the game you go the more evil and dark areas become. This would give more impact imo as it shows what the demons have done to the world
I don't think they would've bothered with the whole "20 Years Later" thing if they didn't plan on doing this.
I love it, they are actually monitoring/considering and responding to our feedback. What a great way to pass off the future benefit of the players by having them communicate directly/indirectly with developers.
If it were any darker it would be too hard to see and would not be very interesting. Most of the background and scenery is dark with only the light sources giving of color. Go back and look at D2 again, there's a lot of color and light there too. Mount arreat for example is almost glowing white with all the snow.
One more thing, I'm not quite sure how I like "destructible environments" as once you've played through the game a time or two you're going to know exactly what to look for, it'll be a rush to "shoot the wall" on co-op games. Considering the typical die-hard Diablo fan will play through the game what, 50 times? 100? And any particular level several times each, I think the destrucrible environments are going to be a bit repetitive.
Also, I haven't heard yet, are the dungeons and outdoor environments going to be randomly generated like in games past?? I'd assume so but I haven't heard anything on the subject yet.

I think variety is the biggest issue. Some areas may have to have a very demonic and dark colour scheme. But other areas will be acceptable to be bright and in a sense "hopeful".
The world may well be falling apart but having each area just be dark and demonic will lose the epic feeling of destruction that is befalling the world.
I hope Blizzard constantly makes use of various colours schemes that fit in well with the area and what is occurring in the story line. If a hero has to make a last stand I dont want it to be on a sunny saturday afternoon with roses petals going everywhere.
Also I would like Blizzard to move away from the cartoonish feel. I disagree with everything in the gameplay trainer as being cartoonish but I felt certain things (like the background or things like tables and things) were cartoonish. Spells and Abilities and Units however had a much harsher and "cooler" look to them.
Sunny meadows, flowers, monsters that look like they've been copied directly from Wow, the mysterious blue and green glow everywhere and rainbows DO NOT FIT IN DIABLO.
Considering we don't even know the story yet that might be a bold statement...from the tag line "Into the heavens" that might fit perfectly. Heck, maybe you're running through a corrupt Eden or something.
People would have said a frozen tundra didn't fit in Diablo 2 but I think it worked pretty well, it certainly wasn't the typical style though.

I thought the demo looked awesome! I was drooling from the second I hit play. I can't wait to get my hands on a copy. Keeping my fingers crossed for the end of the year!

Considering that they have randomly generated events (sometimes its a caravan that needs rescuing, or maybe a pack of zombies, MD had it up somewhere) I'm sure they'll do the same for dungeons/destructible areas, although some storyline important things will obviously stay the same.
How does anyone here know that there are not going to be entire areas of the game that are going to be dark, bloody, and decayed? How?
1. You've seen one dungeons color pallet. Thats it. blue/green.
2. You've seen what looks like a forest with sunlight and autumn colors orange/reds
3. We haven't seen the flowing blood rivers of hells dominion or the dark, cold caves beyond the world of mortals.
4. I do not understand how any of you would want to limit the entire color pallet to the same desaturated grays and browns you've been posting all over the place.
5. If anything the only thing I would complain about in the demo is the contrast.. which is more than likely a video option.
6. WE HAVE ONLY SEEN <.05 PERCENT OF THE GAME. I think it is absolutely ludicrous that people are jumping all over this right now. Give it time... give it time.
I don't know that it has to be gray, but it definitely needs to be darker and more gritty. It currently looks like a gory WoW, IMO. It's a bit darker, especially the animations and the like (Siegebeast killing Barbarian), but it still looks more like WoW than it does Diablo.
I really like the idea of switching out the pervasive blues and greens with reds and golds. That, I think, it a much better color scheme.
I don't think it needs to be gray. But I definitely don't think the blue/green works well at all, and it looks a lot like WarCraft - and that's automatically a bad thing, IMO.

So everywhere should be evil? Its been 20 years, but everything is still all messed up! Makes sense. I highly doubt these places will stay all nice and pretty.
Well my input would be that it does look great as is!! But we have not seen much of the darker map levels either. but certainly when this goes GOLD, D3 will certainly benefit from a highly contrasting difference to WoW colors/style with a more deeper and darker aura/environment immersing D3 soldiers.
Honestly, I'm 25 and I plan on playing this game and have not allocated time for much games since Diablo 2, Other than GTA4 of course. If my wife or friends catch me playing a WoW type game on my 80" projector in my living room could mean tragic. If I am ripping through hordes of shit splattering gore and you can hear screams and people tortured in the background....... everthyng will fit the lick in my world.
Well i like the enviroments as they are and im sure that as we get closer towards diablos sanctuary we will start to see the darker tones that we are used too and also trees burning and clouds or flaming ash falling from the sky. I beleive that blizzard know what they are doing and I trust them to give us a game that was worth waiting ten years for.
With that being said the only critisism i can think of is the lions at the bottom of the stair case i thnk they should be replaced either with skulls or something that would suit the world of sanctuary a little better imo they seemed a little out of place something im sure they will correct as time goes by
maybe an graphical option that would allow the player to choose from would be an option being able to reduce bloom and and pallete colour would please most people due to the vote so far being around 50/50
Also if a blizz member is reading these can i just ask if there is any chance of adding an npc or a quest reward that would allow you to dye clothes and plate metal this would only change the look of the armour and allow slight customisation for the player, imagine being able to dye your favorite gothic plate a nice shade of red and then plate the metal parts chrome or brass. Being able to customize you player slightly gives us the oppotunity to make an end game character that we would really feel was our own.
I am with you on the dying / color scheme options for items.
Would make it very interesting and unique.
We need more purple black and red, less green and blue, simply put!
well you know i think the art itself it perfectly great, i like the spells and skills bright colors is great, but i just think some of the layouts and envirnments could be slightly darker. HOWEVER, you guys do realize what we saw was amongst the demo game only. for all we know these could be noobie zones in which should not portray a super dark envirnment so early on in the game. i would bet even as in places like the "chaos sankl" ( if there is one lol ) would be much darker and shaded as of the screens we have seen.
somone posted this before, but the outdoors look great and need not be changed. while the greenish tint in the basements needs to go. i feel the picture johnnyxp64 is posting of the outdoors is ment to be like act 1 in diablo2. a screenshot containing some images similar to act 5 would most likely have a darker feel to them.

But to stay true to Diablo style they might want to make it look more gothicy.
More dark and grimy, more grey's and blacks and purples and reds.
Compared to blues and greens.
