Are you wanting the standards high so most people cant buy them ...... ?
If they made the graphics amazing by todays standards it would only be succesful on a 360 or Ps3 and wouldnt be its best for PC (As it could be)
Who cares if the final game runs only a high-end pc if in the end its graphics surpass our expectations?
'Let's put in some crap graphics in the game so that everybody can run it' is a sad and pathetic excuse that unfortunately Blizzard seems to adopt with the release of each of their new titles.
The only thing that matters to them is to make more profits on the heads of its fans and potential fans even if it means that in the end they give us a game that all gamers will not appreciate fully.
I'm sure that millions of diablo fans worldwide would not hesitate one second to buy a new pc or upgrade for a game that renews their experience of diablo 2 (the best game ever).
The diablo lore has already a large fanbase worldwide , which is bound to increase exponentially even if it requires a high-end pc to run without any glitches.
People saying that 'crysis was not a commercial success because it was too greedy in terms of system requirements' are twats.
Graphics is part of gameplay... noone wants to play game that plays good but looks like it doesn't take itself serious...noone wants a horror game in pooh world...
Jesus..... finally we get some people that make sense. And thanks everyone for signing this petition, we can do alote when we are whole together .
I agree that it could be a tad less WoW like, but complaining about "WoW architecture"...?! What the hell?
From the screenshots you edited, I gather you want the entire game to look like the movie 300, but let me remind you that it's not constantly raining, misty and night time for an entire world.
Although, I think maybe we could use just a little shadow at the edge of dungeon screens, but not too much, as that looks rather ugly.
Am I the only one that was really excited when I saw the gameplay?! It looked great!
I see a lot of people talking about how much time it would add to development to "redo textures" etc.
A texture rework would help, but it is not what is keeping this game from looking "Diablo" or even what is needed.
The majority of fixes that would make this game look right are all in the lighting engine, not in the texture engine. It is the color of the light that is casting a consistent teal green pale over everything, not the textures.
If they centralized the light as if being cast from the character and light sources like the candles etc. with a drastic drop-off in light at the edges of the screen, I think that would be all it would take to help push the game into diablo territory.
The whole "it's never nighttime" thing is a carryover from World of Warcraft where even at night it's so bright you have to ask yourself "is it night?" Sadly this totally ruins the mood of the game. No creeping around in the dark with a lantern, no mood, no tension... blah.
It was a great aspect of diablo that you could only see what your character would be able to see. Mobs around corners were hidden until you went around the corner. Rooms stayed dark until your character could light them. The unknown created a great deal of tension. I hope blizzard can find a way to bring mood back to diablo.
I completely disagree that this can't be done without a few small lighting changes to the game engine. A texture rework that would add countless hours to development is not necessary.

p.s. who is the retard at blizzard that thinks all shoulder armor needs to look like it came off a 20 foot tall football player? Fire him already. We get it, he has a fetish, we're sick of it. Just stop it.
p.p.s To people saying "we've only seen 1% of the game so shut up." That is precisely why it is important for people to voice their opinions now. Before the other 99% of the game is created. Learn 2 think.
for god sakes.. there IS light radius in D3.. look at the freaking gameplay footage.. and no.. I dont want to play a grayscale game.. that is basically what you're showing there.
the fact that you blur the screen doesnt add any horror to it.. it just makes you think twice about checking your eyesight..
and last but not least.. does any of you ever think of the fact that d2 and d1 have been created over 8 years ago? you might as well say "maybe i've grown up a lil bit" and today when i play d2.. I dont see ANY horror in it.. its drawing me in.. but not by horror.. good and fast action paced gameplay is.
Good post. Hopefully, Blizzard considers those suggestions.

"We want to take dark as an emotion, rather than an actual color art choice." -Rob Pardo

Look nobody think D3 won't sold amazing numbers in short time.
But will it pass the trail of time(will it sell good as D2 after 8 years)? Will it be above the other D2 clones out there? Will it get goty or some good praises out of pure justice (note: oblivion which got top score only cause of the company and the huge hype)
I like the game. I do. I want it released A.S.A.P. I have a question for all of you though. When looking at this comparison, what story does each picture tell? Please, be honest with yourselves. Forget about the presence of color or the absence of it. What stories do the pictures tell comparatively?
The first picture, to me (and remember, my first impression of the game was; "Awesome!") seems to tell a story of a casual, happy stroll during a nice day and "Oh look! There's some weird looking goat standing upright with a stick...allow me to smash it for some reason!"
The second picture? Well that drips with realism and fear. Like I'm pressing onward when I shouldn't be, that I'm unsure of each step I take. A demonic creature approaches; I fight and struggle to stay alive with each impacting strike of my weapon. "Where am I headed? Not sure, but it's going to be a long journey, and I'll be leaving a path of demons in my wake."
That's my take on the story each picture seems to tell and I had no idea before I saw these edited pictures that there could even be an alternative. However, I'm not going to let some manipulated image deter me from appreciation of Blizzards hard work. I am interested in the lore of the game, but I've always placed importance on the game play, as well as the graphics, and once more; the graphics are more than acceptable in my opinion.
Seriously, I really think we need to see more before making this judgement. After watching the gameplay movie I felt too that the art direction has forsaken the series a bit in favor of a Warcraft feel. But honestly we've seen one style of dungeon and one small overland area. They said they are really trying to use this for mood and to set a contrast, they've redone the art direction 3 times now they've said in an interview and they really think they have something here. I'm giving Blizzard a chance that they know what they're doing.
While regardless I do wish that the models and textures were sharper and more well rounded (I know they are aiming for compatibility but that's a bit rediculous) I'm giving they're art/lighting direction a chance. If it starts to appear that all these outdoor areas are happy and cheery with no hint of diablo in there then I may change my mind.
Thinking back though.... when looking at the Diablo exteriors we've seen a bland field of rolling plains in Act 1 with a musical score that accompanied it perfectly which I think a lot of the mood derived from, a brightly lit desert (except at night time) that didn't really have any creepy atmosphere whatsoever except for occasionally at night in Act 2, a deep thick jungle in Act 3 which I think has most of these qualities you guys feel D3 exteriors are missing, Act 4 was... well... hell and you have not even the vaguest of comparisons yet, and Act 5 which had exteriors that were mostly action and had not much of any mood.
I honestly think a lot of this mood you are drawing from is greatly in part from the music. Try picturing Diablo 2 at higher resolutions with no music, in my mind I'm picturing crap. Also I don't really like those pictures of "what it should look like". No I most definitely do not want Warcraft style graphics. But at the same time I don't want Diablo 2 with higher resolution and physics. That would look like crap. I want to see where they go with this. If they've retried and put as much consideration into as they say they have then I'm going to wait and see if these areas really do contrast other parts of the game.
I think what Blizzard needs to do is be very careful about what they show us next.
I like this person's persuasiveness while he maintains dignity and respect. Good find indeed. He is very persuasive, and I tend to agree with his opinions. However, I believe that he did himself a disservice by attaching the photoshopped images. They are other people's renditions of the game, and don't reflect the Diablo feel either, IMO.

Why can't a heterosexual guy tell a heterosexual guy that he thinks his booty is fly?
i really relate to the original post on this thread. very articulate and spot on the problems many of us felt were on this diablo III gameplay cinematic, but just couldn't put them in words.
i couldn't convey these feeling better myself.
that's the kind of post i'd really like to see an official blizzard response to. and better sooner than later.
as someone here said before me - either way, blizzard should really be carefull about their pick on what to show us next regarding this very anticipated game.
