I had the same problem when D2 came out over D1. This works for anything in entertainment, when there is a good thing going it will be dumbed down, simplified and made more acceptable for a greater audience hence greater money. Its also a shame now that all the smaller more daring game companies have been shafted out by the bohemoth money making companies.
I know what you mean. Hell in diablo 1 was fucking crazy. But I always felt like diablo II had the superior gameplay.
Please refrain from quoting excessively large amounts of images in a single post. It makes reading the thread somewhat difficult, and oftentimes, quoting images just isn't necessary to get your point across.
If you must quote an image, it would be helpful if you could replace the actual image with a link instead. It'll be much easier on everyone.
As for my opinion on the graphics (and I've said this before), I think the developers are doing a great job with it. Given that the game takes place 20 years after Diablo II, it makes sense that Sanctuary would be rebuilding.
Besides, we don't know for sure which area the gameplay video was taken in, so it's likely that it may be an area that was untouched by the events of the first two games.
What Blizzard need to do is to show us other areas of this game, if they look darker than this or not.

Something that is as important is the character models during the ingame conversation. In the trailer they looked exactly like Warcraft characters. Hopefully that was just a placeholder for a better model.
Gameplay looks amazing I have to agree but all I want is some more gothic like theme to it and not so cartoonish. They said they were to try not to make it so cartoony but they did.
Eh... true but I doubt it wouldn't be that hard just to add some models and some darkness to the environment. They are smart and very talented people they could do it if they really wanted to I bet. Takes 4 years for that? lol what a waste of my time then if thats all they got.
I am really worried that it's too late. Blizzard mentioned in the interview that the graphics and the gameplay mechanics were pretty much complete and all they needed to do now was add content. So that means it would be really hard, if not impossible to improve the graphics in any meaningful way without scrapping the past 4 years worth of work.

Half of us will be happy If they at least change the colors and filter it.
If they change the texture(armors,statues etc.) ppl will be more so, but it's gonna be harder for the artists at this stage.
Lets say they improve some aspects, that's also good in my book.

No way, darkness is not the main issue in my opinion. It's the stylized graphics with objects and environments being disproportional and thus not realistic. Colors are realistic so I'm cool with that, but naturally you wouldn't have a lot of colors in dungeons anyway.
In one of the interviews, a Blizzard employee said that stylized graphics were done on purpose with the goal of creating the feeling of existing in a fantasy world, that really scares me because I really think that is a stupid theory. Having the graphics realistic doesn't subtract at all from the fantasy world, otherwise we would be making movies like Lord of the Rings look like toy story.
