Do you guys have any specific time to get on? I think we should organize this a bit, like say, everyone tries to come at 8 hours PM, GMT -5. (random time here) Point is just to try and get people on at the same time. I find myself wanting to play sometimes, but all alone is not so thrilling. Or with leftcopy and mrtmine which speak with themselves in some other language. (I thought this server was English only).
I personally am usually on around 10-3 EST. Although most people seem to be on later in the day. The server is not English only. If you want to talk to mrtn or left, just talk to them in English and they will respond.
As for the city. I think I have some time friday morning to try to plan and organize this. It does not have to be close to spawn point since that mod lets me create a new one. But there is a good chunk of land north of the spawn point which is probably where it will go.
For now, just make some mines and get some mats. You can build some temporary structures if needed but try not to make anything to big.

Well, just have to say one thing, this currently sucks. Why?
Invisible monsters. I keep losing health at totally random times. Heck, a few times a crater just spawned in front of me, and I lost 5 hearts. No sound effects, no monsters in sight.
Gathering materials is just about the only thing that we can do effectively now. Swords don't seem to work, so mobs become a major pain. Hopefully that will be a quick fix.
PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.
Supporting big shoulderpads and flashy armor since 2004.
Well, there's the first and last time I try to create some badass lava flows.
Dumped out my bucket of lava at the top of a cliff, backed up a bit to dig up some sand, ended up falling off the cliff, died, had to race back to where it happened, and my entire set of diamond equipment had been incinerated.
Fuck this game.

Here is our map. I was thinking that we build the center of the city right where the snow patch is. That would give us a lot of room to expand in each direction and leave the back side open for a port to the big water section.

Alright, the mod is back up so everyone should have a title with their name as well as access to some extra commands like:
/help,/sethome,/home,/spawn,/me,/msg,/kit,/playerlist,/warp,/motd,/compass,/tell,/m,/who
I will be setting up the area for the townhall which will be our first project. I am going with a 40x40 structure so it will be plenty big for whatever we need it for. I will also be setting the spawn point to that location. Feel free to work on it. There will also be some chests in there with building supplies. If Air or someone else wants to come up with the actual design of the building. For now it will just be a 40x40 square.
Once we get the townhall built, or at least a solid base, we can then move onto housing and commerce district.

I see no point myself. The planning part was a lot more fun and lively. Now nobody is posting, I never see anyone online, and online is so laggy its unplayable. Well, its not more laggy than before, but when dealing with monsters, its the least fun thing I experienced in Minecraft, ever.
The reason I asked when people were playing was to try and get everyone together at the same time, instead of just all trying to get on at any time of the day and each do his stuff all alone. Whats the point in that?
I'm not expecting the net code to be fixed any time soon, so I'm for some reason, not expecting Notch to have this fun and playable with monsters for a good while.
Until then anyway, and until we actually get a bunch of us playing at the same time, my interest is sadly completely gone.
Most people are probably holding off for now since the last update introduced a bunch of bugs, but we're all still watching very attentively for fixes. In the meantime it's still possible to gather materials and poke around as well as develop the layout for the city. Don't give up just yet man - progress is being made

But the progress is slow and thats killing me Hopefully you're right, people are holding off for the bugs and it will eventually grow back up when the good fixes starts rolling in.
updated the OP with our current map. What we need to do know that we have our TownHall mapped out is to decide where the other districts are going. We need residency, commercial (storage, items), industrial (workshops, mineshafts, testing areas), farms (already started but might need to relocate), pvp coliseum, other ideas, future plans.
Once we get this decided upon, we can build and outter wall so it is safer for us to work.

Was going to flesh out the basement level, but now that the spawn point in in the city hall, that's a no go. Since we don't have a coordinated meeting time, someone needs to go and sketch out the city layout, so whenever people decide to log on they can just stake a plot or city component and start filling it in. Asynchronous development gogo!

Not very fun for now.
Notch:
"I’m expecting bugs on this one, so I’m monitoring the usual channels (irc, twitter, email) extra carefully."
Bound to happen unfortunately. Hopefully the major ones will be resolved asap.

Things are actually worth something now since we actually can lose them. Now if they'd only fix the drop durability bug I'd be satisfied :).
Edit: Playing with lava is not a joke anymore
