Sup guys. So as of today I'm proud to say that another mechwarrior game is in the works and it looks very good. They actually came back to the 1st person perspective which is a classic in the series.
Be sure to check out the trailer at : http://www.gametrailers.com/video/debut-trailer-mechwarrior/52619
Btw: this is IN GAME footage, so this is how it will look in game
The 3 mechs in the trailer are the atlas a heavy armored mech, the warhammer a medium/heavy armored mech and the Jenner D a light recon mech.
Well that's it....aren't you excited. I KNOW I AM :D:D:D:D

You might get a better insight if you aren't too familiar with the game's mechanics
Can you imagine playing this game multiplayer with your friends on a live battlefield?? WOW 0_0 awesome!
Holy SHIT !!
I'm so happy they're making another one !!!
I remember playing one of these games when I was really young, I could never actually do much in the game, but I remember it being one of the most badass things I've ever played.
Will definitely have to pick this one up.

Notice the Title : MechWarrior.... no numbers. The reason is that they decided to do an overall with the series. Mech 1 and 2 were badass but 3 and 4 were total flops for my taste. I'm really happy to see that they decided to go back to the basics!
Let's hope this might re-ignite the genre. With fail mech-games littering the shelves at the local gaming store, I hope this one obliterates them all in one foul swoop!
*ahem* A bit too much on the zealous side.

It all depends on the publisher and the overall budget. Judging on what I have read and seen at the moment, it will really redefine the genre. After reading the interview at IGN : http://pc.ign.com/articles/100/1002164p1.html (watch out it's 6 pages long) I can also advance that the publisher will be Activision just like in the first two first games (that really ignited the franchise). Considering that this game will come out as a celebration to the 25th years of battletech, IT WILL KICK ASS :D:D!
Before I became a Diablo fan, I was a mechwarrior fan (and always will be). For the last few weeks, I thought Diablo III was going to be god of my games... I was proven wrong by this thread... This game might just rape Diablo IN ALL AWESOMENESSS!!!
I think we have MechWarrior 2 or somesuch. I just remember fondly watching my older brother play it. It's weird how some of my happiest moments in my life are just being around him while he's doing something. I really look up to him.
I just remember a lot of customization and that part was very appealing.
Woah. That look sooo awesome. im stoked to purchase that game. haha. siiiick!

MechWarrior always looked like a fun game to me. But I never understood why anyone would build these kinds of machines for combat. They seem so incredibly slow and clunky. And yeah, they obviously carry a huge fuck off arsenal of missiles and mini guns. But if the same mini guns and missiles could take one of these things out, why would you put such artillery inside a giant walking mechanism? Why not just an atmospheric flyer that could deliver the same artillery and be loaded with decoys to avoid a missile lock? Cause these things it seems once a missile is flying at it, there's almost nothing they can do to avoid it.
So I guess they have lots of armor, right? Fair enough. But even for the walking fortress that these things are, they still seem like they can be taken down easy. I don't know, maybe I'm overthinking it. I do want to play this game though.
Update: eptember 3, 2009 - Earlier today, IGN and its parent company were issued a cease and desist order from Harmony Gold, the co-copyright owner of the television series Robotech. The letter claims that the use of certain trademarked figures from the Robotech/Macross universe are prohibited as a result of a prior settlement that dates back to 1996. While MechWarrior isn't part of the Robotech/Macross universe, the similarities between vehicles has been enough to cause legal issues and raise questions. Apparently, some of those trademarked figures appear in the trailer used by Pirahna Games in its announcement of the MechWarrior reboot earlier this year, and a request has been made for that trailer to be pulled from IGN.
I saw the news september 4th and decided to look into it before posting it here. Seems they are having some problems with battletech since some of the mechs shown in the trailer are related to some battletech products such as the Atlas and the Dire Wolf.
To answer your interrogations Siaynoq, the mechs were made for quick deployment situations and were highly costumisable. They also have a better view on the battlefield and can represent a powerful moral boost to the troops. There's nothing better than a giant robot fighting on you side. I'll also add that they are not the only giant things on the battlefield (giant tanks do exist) but they serve their own unique purpose. In a battle, the more munitions you have, the more likely you are to survive. The mechs are part of the equation.

I was a big fan of the Timberwolf mech, the Madcat Variant. Gauss = win
