HGL fell because they had bad gameplay analysts. That's the one and only reason. It's not that it's made by former Blizzard North, it's not that it's not called Diablo, or anything else for that matter, it's not even the sci-fi idea. It's:
- bad design;
- bad gameplay mechanics (killing monsters is not satisfactory);
- bad management of the third person mode.
Hundreds of games fail for these reasons. The ability to fix this belongs to great companies (Blizzard), not idea guys and programmers (Blizzard North).
Wrong, wrong and wrong.
You honestly think Blizzard had anything to do with Diablo and Diablo 2? They didn't, they tried, but Blizzard North knew what did good in their game.
Diablo was nearly complete when their studio was bought by Blizzard, so the game you like so much? Blizzard had nothing to do with it. Blizzard also had nothing to do with Hellfire which was a total buggy piece of junk.
HG:L failed due to a lack of money to complete the game so they pushed release and felt the backlash for it. It happens all the time with MMOs, companies run out of money and push their release.
Everything in HG:L looked like it could have been awesome, would they had an extra year to develop it.
No it's not fabricated. Subscribing to Hellgate london is off now.
Until I hear word from the developers, it's still running.
Do you honestly believe everything the news says?
I'm not saying it couldn't have closed, I can see all the reasons they would have... But usually when a company closes we hear it from the company first and then it gets spread around the gaming sites. So far everyone on the gaming sites is saying it's closed but we haven't had one spot of proof to show that it has other than grapevine.
Apparently fail - boy claims I have never played Diablo Series searched for Items on Ebay... Well, I did search of items such as Gaze, Windforce, Valor, etc. and I haven't been able to find any of the items listed in my post on Ebay! That's a fail number 1.
Next fail by Fail - boy is the claim that I have never played Diablo and lied about my stuff, here's the screenies so you can realize that you fail:
That was the original idea to lure you in. They hadn't fully determined the financial model but last I heard but they were planning on microtransactions to buy cool items in-game. That method is popular in korea where mythos was going to be heavily marketed.
FSS said that the in-game store in Mythos would mainly be selling cosmetic stuff, things to individualize characters better. Or things that help people manage their accounts better and stuff. But they never intended (or so they say) to be selling godly items in the in-game store. They said anyone who does not use the store would not be at any dissadvantage whatsoever.
Anyway, some gaming magazine (I forget which one) said that Mythos could very well be the MMO to stand toe to toe with WoW. Go to Mythos.com it is in their headlines.
awesome news to me at least, it means less competition for blizzard north, and I wasted I think fifty bucks on hellgate. less competition means more money, which means that they can hire back the flagship guys, which means that they have more people to work on diablo 3, which means it will be better and/or released earlier. God bless The Machine.
Yes, the lore of Diablo. Chris Metzen wrote both games.
Half of Blizz's today success is thanks to him (and Samwise), because he wrote the lore of ALL Blizzard games.
That's one of the reasons why HG:L sucked, the in-game lore utterlly sucks balls.
EDIT: The good guys of Blizzard North moved to Blizzard Irvine or Castaway (closed, now L5 Games).
The same guy who gave us lol lore? Yes, he's so awesome.
I think he may have assisted with Diablo, but Diablo the story and IP was made and designed by Condor before they ever became Blizzard North. None of Metzen's goofy humour made it into Diablo or Diablo 2, when it saturates any game he can get his hands on. It is pretty obvious he's doing the story for D3, the stupid out of place "Nobody ever listens!" comment from Cain is a sure sign that metzen is writing the dialogue.
Metzen is a great artist. His actual "stories" are subpar at best.
the stupid out of place "Nobody ever listens!" comment from Cain is a sure sign that metzen is writing the dialogue.
Stupid? It's a clear nod to Diablo 2, where he'd always ask you to "stay awhile and listen". Of course, no one ever did, they'd just go to him to ID their stuff and leave immediately, so they made that into a little joke in Diablo 3. Personally, I thought it was awesome, and a sign that Diablo 3's predecessor wasn't forgotten.
It was about 3 Dev's in Flagship that helped with Diablo. Bill Roper being one of them. At the time it was quite simple to develop a 2D game ect. FSS hired some developers that only had experience working on Gameboy Advance Games such as Dora The Explorer which is what I read in a Hellgate Dev Documentary Thread said by the Dev himself, so I can see they the Tilesets were so bland and limited, along with horrible story, little to no Cut scenes, and a bad game structure. FSS developers weren't all from Blizzard, only a small 2-3 were.
Just like a mouse putting up a good fight for a Lion right ? :rolleyes:
I believe it could prove formidable. I watched one of the class movies on the site, and it showed closeups of the races and I was thinking, "Wow, not only does this game look sucky, but it's a total WoW ripoff..." Then I saw the combat, and I was thinking, "Wow, not only does this game look sucky, but it's a complete Diablo ripoff." Then, I watched the Gadgeteer fight, and I was thinking, "This is one of the best games ever!!!"
