My biggest concern for PvP is if the Diablo III development team goes back on their word about never nerfing PvE for PvP balance. I want to obliterate demons with extremely powerful abilities, not feel gimped because someone complained my class was imba in PvP.
I believe they've specifically stated that skills will differ functionality between PvE and PvP. That way they can balance PvP without effecting PvE.

You got a point there.
Well they can balance skills separately for PvP and PvE. I don't see why they'd stop utilizing that and just change something in both PvP and PvE. Obviously they've said they want to use that as little as possible, but I'm sure they would use it over letting PvP effect PvE.
Once in a while. If it is like the random dungeon groups you get thrown in on WoW then I don't think I'll like it much. I'll still go in and mess around when I don't feel like slaying demons.
I'm a little curious though. Is there any way to convince a person they are not wanted in your game without the ability to pk? Sometimes it seems like this is the only proper recourse to someone's behavior.

I dont normally focus on pvp too much, if there are less competitive formats of pvp I will be much more likely to play. Modes I'd like to see might be battle ground style, king of the hill, juggernaut would be fing amazing. Stuff like that.

A lot more games have been balancing like that lately and it's a good idea. I hope they keep it up. I'm tired of PvP getting into PvE and vice versa. You can't balance both with the same set of rules really. At least I've yet to see a game do it properly.
Eh I'd rather PvE first to get the hang of things and then PvP with friends and then expand from there. Kind of what i did with D2 and D2X back in the day.
I gotta say at first I'm gonna play pVe as my wizard with my buddy rage'n out the barbarian. Then early on I'm gonna check out pVp to see what kinda builds other wizards are doing, just so I can contemplate my possible choices a little more informed. Then right back into pVe cause I wanna get that pVe content and have some nice crafting abilities to help out my alt Demon Hunter (She calls to me from a dark place). There is just way too much in pVe I look forward to for me to even think that my pVp time spent will come close to my time spent in pVe for the first couple of months. Can I get an amen!

"Give a man a skill tree, and he will become a Fire Sorc. Give a man 6 skills to choose from, pulling from all three trees, and he becomes a Fire Sorc that likes to shoot lightning to manage the bigger crowds."
The game is indeed designed from a single player perspective, meaning that everything in the game starts with single player in ming (well, except for PvP of course.)
That said, I probably won't do any PvP. Perhaps dip my toe in its waters when I'm finished with a few PvE characters, but I probably won't go for it when I start out. This, of course, is without knowing if it'll actually be fun or not. If it's really cool I might design a character with PvP in mind (but probably bring him/he through the entire PvE campaign first :P).
Never liked D2´s PvP. Was too unorganized. Always near the city doors, people killing you while you running to get you body back, lvl 90 players coming to a lvl 50´s fight. I PvP´ed a few times with 50/50 success rate ,but I felt so bored after so litle fights that I never played again.
But now I´m looking forward to the new system, seems fun, surely give a try.
I'm definitely going to play through the whole game at least once before I start PvP-ing. I may casually PvP with my brother or friends, but I definitely won't start playing ranked PvP games until I have played the game for a while and have a strong build, good gear, etc.
Honestly i have no idea. i will most likely go just PvE but we (by that i mean me and others who didn't demo it) have no real grasp or concept for what it will be like.
Who knows, there have been rumors of different game types in the arena which could make for very interesting and different tacics that does not revolve around the usual "Go kill those guys over their" type of game play. I mean the game play mechanics itself looks like an easy-to-play-harder-to-master style which both hardcore and casual gamers will love. One more thing i LOVE is the only ranked matches (announced) will be 3v3. This is smart from a balance perspective (very hard to get thh perfect build with 3 people) and an overall fun perspective. IF a player is sucking then his mistakes are not as highlighted, making him still want to come back for more.
On the other hand. The thing that sets diablo apart from all other blizzard games is the ability to have fun and be productive without anyone else online. SC2 of course you need others cause going against the comp ai is repetitive and the achievements bore (at least me) to tears. WOW is all about the raiding and while you can try to solo everything you still have deal with trolls and people just out to annoy you. I believe we should take advantage of a game that lets us choose the people we want to play with and have an environment that is both challenging, fun, and solo able. All i know is if it is as stressful as SC2 1v1 is (yes i suck at it) then i will DEFIANTLY not be playing it at all.
I guess Ill give it a shot and if i hate it, who cares. I can still play the damn game without it
