Hello everybody. I was having an argument with my buddy. He thinks legendary items in general will drop less compared to D3V, while I know back in Gamescon they said the leg drop rate would be increased significantly. Did they change that idea since gamescon or am I right? I've been watching stream and it looks like legs are dropping at a fairly high clip.
Although theres no actual blue posts about it,I would expect legendary drop rates to be fairly similar to current D3V but there will be additional methods of obtaining legendaries so as a whole ull be gaining more per hour than u currently can.
That being said, ignore beta drop rates as they are naturally pumped up for testing purposes... You can pretty much ignore stuff like how hard abilities hit, drop rates, costs etc. on a beta because there likely to change on release.
Indeed Leg drop rate has been increased, at least from Gamescom. They've stated you'll be hitting around 6 legs per Act 3 run at P40 so yeah you'll see more drops but remember they probably CLEARED the act as in everything was done and klilled, plus they're all account bound.
Originally I thought this would be way too many but after seeing some streamers footage it seems to be pretty good. Torment 5 or 6 bumps the Legendary drop pool too, so certain awesome legs are only for torment 5 or 6, and certain recipes only start dropping in 4 or 5, so they've definitely thought about the balance here.

What about this though? Has this philosophy changed since they announced it? I expect the drop rate to remain the same, only the quality of the legendaries will change once the game goes live.
On console they use Loot 1.5 which is a significant improvement over the D3V drop system. It includes smart drops and the legendary drop rate has increased by a lot. It is not uncommon for me to see 5 drop in one run on the higher master levels. One monster dropped 3 legendaries for me!
The legendary drop rate is buffed significantly to make up for the lack of an AH. I'm fairly certain that loot 2.0 will follow this trend. Additionally, you get a guaranteed legendary drop the first time you kill a boss.

Still the same philosophy. Just tweaked. Now all those legs are account bound and certain ones will only drop in certain difficulties. But yeah you get the gist of it, they're aiming at a more self found game where you see legs drop pretty decently compared to the 0.0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001% chance they have right now

He's playing torment six, and rolling through it. Of course he's getting 8-10 per hour. Once the game starts getting some balancing I'd expect most players will be on the lower difficulties, and farming much slower.
Right now the game is way too easy. I'm expecting them to make mobs much more difficult to kill in a couple patches from now.
Of course this is beta, but i really hope that we won't get that many good items so fast in Live. From what i saw, in a couple of days, all streamers got to Torment VI and they are rolling through monsters.
If this is what we will play, i don't think the interest for the game will last long.
But of course you need to test the items and you need players to actually drop them and use them to have proper feedback soooo.... before i start a huge rant about short term games with lack of depth i'll wait release.
Like I said, for all we know the drop rates are perfectly fine. The problem is the ease of the content. Right now it's too easy to just jump into torment 6 and plow through mobs. If they tune the game more difficult, it will take much longer to reach the higher level torments, and killing monsters in a high level torment will take far longer than it does right now. Once these are true the rate of acquiring legendaries will be drastically lower, without even having to change the drop rates.
Be careful with asking for higher difficulty. Remember that some drops are exclusive to Torment 5/6. If the majority of players are going to be blocked from accessing this content, you get the same situation we had with pre-nerf Inferno right after release.
Balancing is sooooo hard. Especially these days; people watch streams of someone rushing through highest difficulty content, and then get back to their own game struggling to get past Torment 2 or so. Let's see how Blizzard ends up tuning this... we just don't know.
I'm 50/50 on this. I sort of feel that the drop rate seems a bit too high for legendaries at the moment, but on the other hand I am basing this off of a F&F beta where drop rates may be higher for testing purposes and I am also watching people who play the game for 10+ hours a day who are also using a clearly bugged crusader build to roll through Torment VI ... so I am taking it with a grain of salt.
That being said I'd rather the drop rates be a little stingier on launch and them have to increase the drop rates rather than have it the other way around.
MF is getting a huge nerf - maybe the legendary droprate for all characters in RoS will be similar to the MF300 legendary droprate in vanilla. But for characters with low MF today, they should see a ton more legendaries.
I just saw a stream with Kripp getting 21 legendaries in an hour.
It's not that impressive given he's using bugged skills with a crusader but the part that has me worried is the legendaries themselves.
There was nothing 'build-changing' about them and he stashed 3-4 due to their stats instead of the legendary effects while salvaging the rest.
The drop rate will most likely be lowered considerably and I know I won't have the gear to farm Torment for quite some time post RoS release.
Knowing that and seeing streamers find only a few legendaries so far these past few days being considered build changing is really making me loose interest. These legendaries/sets need a lot more work.
I dont think Torment 6 is too easy, its that certain skills and leg special effects in conjunction with each other are just broken right now. But its beta, that's expected.
I find the legendary drop rates reasonable. I generally get one or two per Nephalem Rift run, which is perfectly fine. This is on Torment I through III. I haven't tried higher because I refuse to rely on Crushing Blow's mechanics as many people are doing (seriously, is the chance for Crushing Blow a simple percentage? It really should be proc based).
There are many, many, many aspects of the beta that need changing and will be changed. We still don't know if the way difficulty (i.e. monster health) scales for higher Torment levels will remain as is. If the system does stay this way, people will have to stack Crushing Blow in order to achieve any farming efficiency. Meh.
I'd rather not go into that while I'm running the beta. I need to find more bugs and start collecting broken items to mark for Blizzard's To-Fix List.
It's clear that this beta is extremely early for public consumption by Blizzard's standards, but I think it was a good decision. Every single thing about the game is changing and needs to be rebalanced, and the fanbase has already proven that they're better at breaking the game systems than Blizzard's private testers will ever be. The fact that D3's endgame was never publicly tested is one of the main reasons things went so wrong. This way not only are streamers publicly lining up all the most abusive strategies for nerfing, they're also demonstrating how new game systems like Bounties/Rifts are being used in practice so Blizzard can make more informed decisions on how to iterate.
